Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of compound myop astigmatism disease at the JEC Orbita Makassar Eye Clinic. The design of this study was cross-sectional and samples were taken from medical record for the period April 2022.4 – 2024.4. The results showed that the majority of compound myop astigmatism sufferers were women of productive age between 17 and 25 years and were students and housewives (IRT). Prolonged screen exposure (computer vision syndrome) is the most likely risk factor for compound myopic astigmatism suffered by patients.

Abstract

Polypharmacy is a common phenomenon in geriatric patients and is strongly associated with aging and the presence of multiple comorbidities. In the elderly population, the simultaneous use of several medications increases the risk of negative outcomes, including higher healthcare costs, adverse drug reactions, drug–drug interactions, poor medication adherence, functional decline, and geriatric syndromes. Older adults are particularly prone to polypharmacy, which considerably heightens the risk of drug interactions, especially among those with multiple chronic conditions. The probability of drug–drug interactions escalates in direct proportion to the number of medications prescribed, as geriatric patients generally receive more prescriptions compared to younger populations. This study employed a Literature Review approach with a Narrative Review design. Polypharmacy is highly prevalent among geriatric patients and is significantly linked to disease burden, adverse effects, drug interactions, and increased treatment costs. Elderly patients with multiple comorbidities taking several medications concurrently are at heightened risk of harmful drug interactions, with the likelihood rising alongside the number of medications consumed. Geriatric patients are particularly vulnerable to polypharmacy, which substantially increases the risk of drug–drug interactions. The greater the number of medications prescribed, the higher the potential for adverse outcomes.

Abstract

Obesity is a growing health problem worldwide, including in Indonesia. One factor associated with obesity is inadequate sleep duration. This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep duration and obesity among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muslim Indonesia, class of 2021. An analytical cross-sectional design was used. The study sample consisted of 45 students with inclusion criteria of having a BMI > 25 kg/m² and experiencing sleep duration disorders. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test and Cramer's V test. The results showed that the majority of students had adequate sleep duration (53.3%) and were more frequently classified in the Obesity II category (77.8%). The Chi-Square test revealed a significant association between sleep duration and obesity category. The Cramer's V test indicated a moderate correlation between sleep duration and obesity. There is a significant relationship between sleep duration and obesity in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Muslim University of Indonesia, class of 2021

Abstract

Screen time refers to the duration a person spends looking at electronic device screens, such as cell phones, computers, tablets, or televisions. High screen time can influence various aspects of life, including energy intake, physical activity, and nutritional status. This study aims to explore the relationship between screen time and nutritional status among students of the Faculty of Medicine, Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) class of 2021. Using an observational cross-sectional design, the study involved students as respondents. Results indicated that 51% of students had sufficient screen time, while 49% had normal nutritional status. Data analysis using the chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.118, suggesting no significant relationship between screen time and nutritional status (p > 0.05). Although screen time is often linked to lifestyle changes, such as reduced physical activity or unhealthy eating, this study concludes that it does not directly impact nutritional status in this population. The findings may serve as a foundation for future research that considers additional factors influencing nutritional status.
