Abstract

Platyhelminthes (flatworms) are simple triploblastic animals that represent an important stage in the evolution of organ systems. This article discusses the development, organization, and adaptation of organ systems in major classes of Platyhelminthes, including Turbellaria, Trematoda, and Cestoda. Using a literature review method, the study examines the morphology and physiology of flatworms based on scientific journals and biology references. The results show that although Platyhelminthes lack specialized circulatory and respiratory systems, they possess functional digestive, excretory, nervous, and reproductive systems. Their body organization reflects an early stage of organ system specialization in invertebrates, making them an important model for understanding animal evolution, adaptation, and biological complexity.

Abstract

This research aims to synthesize chitosan-graphene oxide (chitosan-GO) material using the hydrothermal method at varying material ratios and adsorption studies on Congo red. Chitosan-GO composites were synthesized with mass ratios of (1:1), (1:3) and (1:5). The synthesized chitosan-GO composite was applied to absorb Congo red dye. The adsorption process is carried out by varying pH, contact time, concentration and temperature. The chitosan-GO composite was characterized using XRD, BET and SEM-EDS. The results of XRD characterization of the chitosan-GO composite with a ratio of 1:1 showed a diffractogram of 2θ = 22.3°, at a ratio of 1:3 the diffractogram angle was 2θ = 22.1°, while the ratio (1:5) of the diffractogram peak obtained was 2θ = 22.8°. The surface area obtained in chitosan-GO composite was 11.60 m2/g. The morphology of the chitosan-GO composite (1:5) is in the form of crystalline lumps with the constituent elements C (65.98%), O (32.68%), Na (0.22%) and S (0.09%). Adsorption of Congo red dye using chitosan-GO composite obtained optimum conditions at pH 7, contact time 50 minutes, Congo red concentration 45 mg/L and temperature 50°C. The adsorption isotherm is in accordance with the Langmuir isotherm model and the maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) is 10.245 mg/g.

Abstract

This study modified current bentonite with zinc oxide (ZnO) and investigated the performance of phenol adsorption. The material bentonite-ZnO was successfully synthesized and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The adsorption performance was determined by adsorption equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters. The adsorption, kinetic, and thermodynamic parameters were compared alternatively. The phenol adsorption capacity was obtained from Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models, which for bentonite-ZnO was fit with both isotherm models (Langmuir R2 = 0,997 and Freundlich R2 = 0,9515) and was favorable than activated bentonite (n value bentonite-ZnO = 2.389; activated bentonite = 0,898). A kinetic model was tested with pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models which bentonite-ZnO and activated bentonite fit in the pseudo-second-order with an excellent agreement (R2 = 0,999). Several thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and bentonite-ZnO have an entropy more than zero (ΔS = 0.008 J/molK), which demonstrated the feasibility and spontaneity (ΔG < 0) and endothermic nature (ΔH = 3,056 kJ/mol) of the phenol adsorption process. Several thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and bentonite-ZnO have an entropy more than zero (ΔS = 0.008 J/molK), which demonstrated the feasibility and spontaneity (ΔG < 0) and endothermic nature (ΔH = 3,056 kJ/mol) of the phenol adsorption process. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the body structure of Aurelia aurita as a diploblastic organism based on its embryonic layers and morphological characteristics within the phylum Cnidaria. The research employed a literature study method using a qualitative descriptive approach through the review of journals, books, and scientific articles published between 2022 and 2026. Data collection was conducted by identifying, selecting, and examining relevant scientific sources related to the anatomy, morphology, and developmental biology of Aurelia aurita. The collected data were analyzed systematically through reduction, classification, interpretation, and presentation stages to obtain comprehensive findings. The results showed that Aurelia aurita possesses two main embryonic layers, namely ectoderm and endoderm, with mesoglea acting as a supporting layer between them. The ectoderm develops into the epidermis, tentacles, and cnidocytes functioning in defense and prey capture, while the endoderm develops into the gastrodermis and gastrovascular cavity responsible for digestion and nutrient distribution. Morphologically, this organism has a transparent umbrella-shaped body, radial symmetry, oral arms, a diffuse nervous system, and simple organ systems functioning through diffusion mechanisms. These body structures support the adaptability, survival, feeding efficiency, and ecological role of Aurelia aurita in aquatic environments effectively.

Abstract

Vermes merupakan kelompok hewan avertebrata yang memiliki simetri bilateral dan sistem tubuh yang lebih terorganisasi dibandingkan hewan bersimetri radial. Simetri bilateral memungkinkan tubuh terbagi menjadi sisi kanan dan kiri melalui satu bidang pembelah sehingga mendukung arah gerak yang jelas serta perkembangan organ yang lebih kompleks. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan simetri bilateral terhadap struktur tubuh dan tata letak organ pada vermes menggunakan metode studi literatur. Data diperoleh dari jurnal nasional dan internasional, buku zoologi, serta artikel ilmiah yang membahas Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, dan Annelida. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa simetri bilateral berperan penting dalam perkembangan sistem saraf, sistem pencernaan, sistem ekskresi, dan sistem reproduksi pada vermes. Platyhelminthes memiliki struktur tubuh sederhana tanpa rongga tubuh, sedangkan Nematoda telah memiliki rongga tubuh semu yang mendukung aktivitas organ internal. Annelida menunjukkan sistem organ paling kompleks dengan segmentasi tubuh dan sistem peredaran darah tertutup. Simetri bilateral juga mendukung proses sefalasi dan koordinasi gerak sehingga organisme mampu merespons lingkungan dengan lebih baik. Dengan demikian, simetri bilateral menjadi dasar penting dalam perkembangan struktur tubuh dan evolusi sistem organ pada vermes

Abstract

Mandai is a traditional fermented food from East Kalimantan made from the peel of cempedak (Artocarpus champeden). To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to report the isolation and characterization of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from mandai. The fermentation process was carried out for 14 days using MRS Agar medium, resulting in 17 bacterial isolates, consisting of nine Gram-negative and eight Gram-positive isolates. Among them, eight Gram-positive isolates were dominant and exhibited typical LAB characteristics, including acid and gas production from glucose, negative catalase activity, non-motility, growth at 48°C but not at 16°C, and the ability to hydrolyze starch, fat, and casein. During fermentation, the pH decreased from 6.8 to 3.8, confirming active lactic acid production. These findings demonstrate that LAB play a crucial role in generating the characteristic sour taste and improving the quality of mandai. Importantly, the identified LAB isolates have potential as starter cultures to enhance the safety, consistency, and nutritional value of this traditional food.

Abstract

Kemampuan pemecahan masalah merupakan keterampilan penting abad ke-21 yang perlu dikembangkan melalui pembelajaran aktif dan berpusat pada siswa. Namun, pembelajaran yang kurang memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa untuk mengeksplorasi dan menyelesaikan masalah dapat menghambat perkembangan kemampuan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode permainan Escape Room terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi sistem saraf manusia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experiment dan desain non-randomized control-group pretest-posttest design. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 51 siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 6 Muaro Jambi, yaitu 25 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 26 siswa kelas kontrol. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes esai dan dianalisis dengan One-Way ANCOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan metode permainan Escape Room terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa (Sig. = 0,015 < 0,05). Rata-rata posttest kelas eksperimen sebesar 73,13 lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol sebesar 65,38, dengan nilai effect size berdasarkan Partial Eta Squared sebesar 0,117 yang menunjukkan pengaruh kategori sedang. Dengan demikian, metode permainan Escape Room berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi sistem saraf manusia dan berimplikasi sebagai alternatif pembelajaran biologi yang aktif, kolaboratif, serta berorientasi pada pemecahan masalah.

Abstract

The development of the central nervous system in Mus musculus is a complex biological process that occurs through several stages, including neurulation, neuronal proliferation, neuronal migration, neuronal differentiation, neurogenesis, and synaptogenesis. This study aimed to explore the stages of central nervous system development in Mus musculus and the factors influencing them through a literature review approach. The method used was descriptive qualitative analysis based on scientific journals and books published between 20162026. The results showed that neurulation plays a role in forming the basic structure of the brain and spinal cord, while the stages of proliferation, migration, differentiation, and synaptogenesis contribute to the formation of neural networks and nervous system function. This process is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, including nutrition, hormones, stress, and exposure to chemical substances. The use of Mus musculus as an animal model has significantly contributed to the development of neurobiology and neurological health research.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini mengeksplorasi implementasi asesmen kontekstual berbasis keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi dalam pembelajaran IPA pada Kurikulum Merdeka serta bertujuan untuk memperkuat kompetensi guru dalam merancang dan menerapkan asesmen autentik. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui program pemberdayaan masyarakat yang melibatkan guru-guru IPA di Tanjung Jabung Jambi, yang berpartisipasi dalam serangkaian lokakarya, pelatihan, dan praktik terbimbing mengenai perancangan asesmen. Dengan menggunakan kuesioner, wawancara, dan analisis terhadap praktik asesmen guru, pengabdian ini mengidentifikasi berbagai tantangan utama pada seluruh tahapan asesmen, meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pelaporan, refleksi, serta integrasi perangkat digital. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa guru masih menghadapi kesulitan dalam memahami asesmen berbasis proyek, menyusun soal yang mengukur keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi, mengelola waktu, serta mendampingi peserta didik yang memiliki literasi rendah dan kesiapan digital yang terbatas. Program lokakarya berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan guru mengenai konsep asesmen, memperkuat kemampuan mereka dalam mengembangkan soal kontekstual berbasis keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi, serta meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dalam menerapkan asesmen diagnostik, formatif, dan berbasis proyek. Guru juga melaporkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran mengenai pentingnya refleksi, umpan balik, dan pemanfaatan hasil asesmen untuk memperbaiki proses pembelajaran. Pengabdian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan, pendampingan teknis, dan dukungan sekolah yang memadai merupakan faktor penting untuk mengoptimalkan implementasi asesmen dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Oleh karena itu, direkomendasikan agar program-program selanjutnya mencakup pelatihan yang lebih terarah, pendampingan yang lebih intensif, serta peningkatan infrastruktur digital guna memastikan bahwa guru mampu merancang dan melaksanakan asesmen berkualitas tinggi yang mendorong pemahaman ilmiah yang lebih mendalam dan pembelajaran yang bermakna.

Abstract

Kemampuan siswa menggunakan pengetahuan ilmiah untuk menjelaskan fenomena, merancang penyelidikan, dan menafsirkan bukti masih perlu diperkuat melalui pembelajaran yang mengaitkan konsep biologi dengan masalah autentik. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas Problem-Based Learning (PBL) yang mengintegrasikan scientific proficiency terhadap kemampuan sains siswa fase F. Penelitian menggunakan kuasi eksperimen dengan Non-Randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Sebanyak 32 siswa kelas XI SMAN 7 Kota Jambi dengan data pretest dan posttest lengkap dianalisis, terdiri atas 16 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 16 siswa kelas kontrol. Instrumen berupa 12 soal uraian valid berbasis tiga kompetensi sains PISA dengan reliabilitas Cronbach’s Alpha 0,839. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANCOVA dengan pretest sebagai kovariat. Rata-rata kelas eksperimen meningkat dari 39,58 menjadi 53,91, sedangkan kelas kontrol meningkat dari 43,23 menjadi 51,56. Hasil ANCOVA menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan model pembelajaran terhadap scientific proficiency setelah kemampuan awal dikendalikan, F(1,29)=4,456; p=0,044; partial ?²=0,133. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa integrasi eksplisit kompetensi ilmiah ke dalam setiap sintaks PBL memberikan efek sedang dan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif pembelajaran biologi berbasis bukti.
