Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of supervision in improving the performance of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in remote areas, with a focus on Sebangau Kuala Subdistrict, Pulang Pisau Regency. This study is motivated by the importance of supervision as a strategic mechanism within the education system, particularly in remote areas facing limitations in access, infrastructure, and human resources. A structural-functional approach is employed to understand the role of supervision in maintaining the balance of the education system. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving Islamic Education teachers, school principals, and educational supervisors. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis to identify patterns of the functions and challenges of supervision in the local context. Research findings indicate that supervision serves two primary functions: first, as a professional development mechanism that enhances teachers’ pedagogical competencies, reflective practices, and instructional strategies; and second, as an integrative tool that aligns the curriculum, school policies, and instructional practices. However, the effectiveness of supervision remains hindered by structural factors such as geographical constraints, a shortage of supervisors, a formalistic approach, and a lack of follow-up. This study is limited to the context of a specific region with limited access and resources, so the generalizability of the findings remains limited. However, the results have implications for the development of more adaptive and context-specific supervision models.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the dominance of bureaucratic rationality and examine the integration of ecological ethics in Islamic education management through a qualitative study at MAN Kotawaringin Timur. The approach employed is qualitative, utilizing a field study design that incorporates in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of the school principal, teachers, educational staff, and students. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, presentation, and drawing of conclusions. The results of the study indicate that educational management practices remain dominated by bureaucratic rationality, which is oriented toward administrative compliance, performance indicators, and formal procedures. Decision-making patterns tend to be top-down and limit collegial participation. On the other hand, ecological ethical values from an Islamic perspective, such as the concepts of khalifah, amanah, and mizan, have begun to be internalized in madrasah cultural practices, yet they have not been systematically integrated into institutional policies and management. This article identifies a gap between bureaucratic rationality and ecological ethical values in Islamic education management. Therefore, this article proposes an ecological amanah-based model of Islamic education management that integrates administrative efficiency with ethical responsibility and environmental sustainability. This model is expected to serve as an alternative in developing a more reflective, participatory, and sustainability-oriented governance framework for Islamic education.

Abstract

Abstract: Law No. 11 of 2012 concerning the juvenile penal system faces challenges in immoral crimes. Article 1 paragraph (3) of the SPPA Law states that children who have not reached the age of 12 cannot be submitted to formal legal proceedings, but returned to their parents or referred to social institutions. Children who have become perpetrators of immoral acts committed by children under the age of 12 (twelve) years are under the supervision of negligent parents, so the author argues that by returning the child perpetrator to his parents, he is worried that he will repeat his act. This research is written normatively from library materials such as books, literature, journals and websites for the research to be discussed. The data analysis in this study is qualitative, meaning that it is based on the relevance of the data to the problem, not the quantity of (quantitative) data. Based on the results of the study, a larger effort to address children's social problems in Indonesia is to develop an interdisciplinary network that includes social institutions or services, law enforcement officials, and other related organizations in an effort to protect children. ABH (Children Facing the Law) rehabilitation is intended for children who have not reached the age of 12 years, who have committed or are suspected of committing criminal acts, and are undergoing legal proceedings at the level of investigation, prosecutor's office, or police. ABH rehabilitation is expected to be able to carry out its role, fulfill children's rights, solve problems, develop self-actualization and potential, and create a social environment that supports ABH's success in reintegrating into society with excellent learning and playing conditions like children of their age.

Abstract

Cryptocurrency is increasingly gaining global popularity, particularly among investors and digital entrepreneurs. In parallel, debates surrounding its permissibility under Islamic law have intensified. The lack of legal clarity among Islamic scholars presents a significant challenge in providing normative guidance. The fatwa issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) declaring cryptocurrency haram (unlawful) has drawn criticism for being misaligned with contemporary concepts of maslahah and the evolving digital economy. This study critically examines the MUI's prohibition through the lens of Al-Tufi's human cognition-based theory of maslahah alongside contemporary Muslim scholars who assess legal rulings through contextual considerations of harm (mafsadah) and benefit (maslahah). This research is a literature-based study employing a normative-juridical approach and qualitative analysis, exploring the fatwa through the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, maslahah, and maqasid al-shari'ah while drawing on both classical and contemporary Islamic thought. The findings reveal that the MUI fatwa, based on four legal grounds—gharar (speculation), darar (harm), qimar (gambling), and sil'ah (tradable commodity)—and a rigid textual approach, fails to incorporate a human cognition-based maslahah as a viable alternative to support regulatory clarity and an adaptive formulation of Islamic law responsive to digital innovation. The study recommends prioritizing regulatory and constitutional certainty to enable a more adaptive and progressive Islamic legal response to technological advancement.

Abstract

Religious and cultural diversity is an inherent social reality in Indonesia, requiring the early cultivation of tolerant and balanced religious attitudes. Early Childhood Education (ECE) plays a strategic role as the foundation for children’s character formation and social development, including the internalization of religious moderation values. This study aims to examine the process of internalizing these values among young children through an inclusive ECE learning environment. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and the school principal, and documentation of instructional materials. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the internalization of religious moderation values occurs through habituation in an inclusive learning environment, reflected in children’s empathy, tolerance, cooperation, and mutual respect in daily interactions. Teachers act as the primary agents by modeling appropriate attitudes and integrating moderation values into thematic, play-based learning. An inclusive environment is proven effective in fostering moderate attitudes in developmentally appropriate ways. This study highlights the importance of strengthening inclusive ECE settings and reflective-humanistic teacher roles to nurture moderate character from an early age.

Abstract

The humanization of education is an important agenda in the development of Islamic education amid the dynamics of modern social life. Islamic education does not merely function as a process of transmitting religious knowledge, but also as a means of shaping complete human beings who possess dignity and social awareness. This article aims to analyze the concept of the humanization of Islamic education from the perspective of contemporary social theory and its relevance to current educational practices. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by examining various literature related to Islamic education, social theory, and modern educational thought. The results of the study indicate that the humanization of Islamic education is aligned with several contemporary social theories, such as humanistic theory, social constructivism theory, and critical theory in education. Fundamental values in Islam such as justice, compassion, equality, and respect for human dignity serve as essential foundations in building a humanistic educational paradigm. In the context of modern education, the humanization approach can be realized through dialogical learning, strengthening the values of empathy, and developing students’ social awareness. Therefore, the integration of Islamic educational principles and contemporary social theory can serve as a strategic foundation in building an educational system that is not only oriented toward cognitive aspects but also toward character formation and humanitarian awareness.

Abstract

Religious conversion in remote indigenous communities involves both changes in religious affiliation and the reorganization of social relationships and access to religious resources. Previous studies of Meratus Muslim converts have examined religious guidance, economic empowerment, and cultural adaptation, but the interaction between kinship relations and geographically constrained institutional access remains less clearly understood. This qualitative single-case study examines how these conditions shaped the social integration experiences of Muslim converts in Patikalain, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Data were collected between February and March 2026 through semi-structured interviews with two converts, a customary leader, and an Islamic preacher, supplemented by four field visits and a review of the 2024 local profile. The data were analyzed through iterative coding, categorization, data display, and theoretically informed interpretation. The two converts described different kinship-mediated pathways to Islam: gradual parental socialization and social validation through observing relatives and community members. The customary leader reported no open conflict over conversion, while field observations and the preacher’s account indicated that difficult access, long distances, and limited communication constrained the regularity of formal religious guidance. The findings identify kinship relations as an immediate source of social connection and geographic conditions as a constraint on institutional religious access. These patterns are context-specific and support the need for regular, culturally responsive guidance rather than a standardized model of intervention.

Abstract

This study examines the transformative role of Pondok Pesantren Darussalam Kunir in fostering socio-economic development within its surrounding community. By implementing empowerment programs that integrate students (santri) and local residents, the pesantren not only serves as an educational institution but also as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. Through job creation, vocational training, and cooperative development, the pesantren enhances local livelihoods while fostering self-reliance. Key initiatives include hiring local labor in agriculture, construction, and livestock management, as well as operating cooperatives that supply essential goods to both the pesantren and the broader community. Moreover, entrepreneurial training has empowered local residents to establish and sustain small businesses, reducing economic dependency and promoting financial resilience. The findings reveal a significant socio-economic impact, demonstrating how pesantren-based initiatives can serve as scalable models for community-driven development. Strengthening partnerships with government agencies and private sectors could further amplify these impacts, ensuring long-term economic sustainability. This study contributes to the discourse on the role of Islamic educational institutions in community empowerment, offering insights for policymakers and development practitioners seeking to integrate religious institutions into broader socio-economic frameworks.

Abstract

Numerous institutions, each with unique traits, power dynamics, and political stances, have contributed to the development of Islamic education in Indonesia. Qur'anic Learning Centers (Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur'an/TPQ), Islamic Elementary Schools (Madrasah Diniyah/Madin), Pesantren, Madrasah, and Islamic Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam/PTAI) are the five categories of Islamic educational institutions in which this study seeks to characterize the politics of education and institutional differentiation. This study investigates how differences in institutional structures are created by political configurations and how they, in turn, affect the quality and accessibility of Islamic education through a methodical literature review of laws, regulations, and socio-political dynamics. The results show that, in terms of institutional standing, societal legitimacy, state regulation, curriculum autonomy, and finance sources, the five institutions hold distinct positions along a continuum. Madin and TPQ have a great deal of autonomy but little assistance from the government. Pesantren's dual model (salafiyah–khalafiyah) places them in an intermediate position. In the meantime, Madrasah and PTAI are subject to more stringent regulations and are completely integrated into the national education system. Decentralization, bureaucratization, and digital transformation exacerbate the problems of resource inequality and quality discrepancies among institutions. The concept of differentiated governance within Islamic education, the identification of a bureaucratization paradox that may limit institutional innovation, and a mapping of state-civil society organizational relations that is specifically embedded in the Indonesian Islamic education context are the three main theoretical contributions made by this study. To improve the standard and equity of Islamic education, the report suggests more flexible, inclusive, and cooperative policies engaging local communities, civil society organizations, and the government.
