Abstract

This study aims to determine the mathematical model of student learning behavior. The model is built by analogizing the spread of learning behavior with infectious diseases, which is called the SEIR model. The survey was conducted through filling out a questionnaire on the learning behavior of junior high school students with a population of 1,143 students. The results of the simulation model show that the peak of students' vulnerability to changes in learning behavior increases rapidly in the first two days and will be stable when passing the 150th day. The results of the simulation of the SEIR mathematical model with an incubation period of 365 days found that student learning behavior in Non-Boarding Schools will be stable in on day 198, while in Boarding Schools it will be stable on day 201. Infection cases in Boarding Schools fell to 0 on day 25 while in Non-Boarding Schools decreased on day 21, meaning that infections occurring in Boarding Schools were slower and more resistant long, meaning that the influence of the social environment is very significant on student learning behavior. This study also serves as material for policy formulation for the Aceh Provincial Government regarding the junior high school curriculum.

Abstract

Spatial ability is the ability to imagine, compare, predict, determine, construct, present, and find information from visual stimuli in terms of spatial context that involves manipulation and mental rotation. Students in rural and urban areas have different ways of looking at a problem, especially with regard to spatial. Many opinions state that there are similarities and differences between boys and girls in terms of spatial ability in urban areas, but there is no information about the conditions between male and female students in rural areas. This study aims to describe the spatial ability of junior high school students in rural areas in terms of gender differences. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Taking research subjects using snowball sampling technique. The research subjects were six people in one of the junior high schools in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh Province. Data was collected by means of tests and interviews. Data analysis used qualitative data analysis techniques, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the tendency of male students' spatial abilities included five abilities, namely spatial perception, spatial visualization, mental rotation, spatial relations, and spatial orientation, while female students only included four spatial abilities because female students did not meet the mental rotation indicators. In general, both male and female students have difficulty in solving problems related to spatial relations indicators. Therefore, in learning, teachers need to develop students' spatial abilities, especially those related to spatial relations in rural areas, as well as develop abilities with mental rotation indicators, especially for female students.

Abstract

Research on mathematical modeling of learning outcomes remains limited, despite its potential to evaluate educational processes and inform placement decisions in schools, classes, learning resources, and remedial programs. This quantitative study aims to construct a mathematical model in the form of an ordinary differential equation (ODE) to represent the dynamics of students’ learning in a remedial program. The model is developed using empirical data obtained from multiple-choice diagnostic tests designed to identify common learning difficulties and a series of three remedial assessments conducted after e-learning-based interventions. The dataset includes students’ assessment scores and time records during the remedial learning process. The Nelder–Mead method was used to estimate the model parameters, followed by a stability analysis and an RMSE-based evaluation of the model’s accuracy. The model captures changes in student understanding over time and reveals that students with lower initial scores tend to show greater improvements through remedial programs. However, as the duration of the remedial program increases, the rate of score improvement decreases—suggesting a decline in student focus and learning efficiency over time. These findings highlight the nonlinear nature of learning progress in remedial program. The model provides for predicting student outcomes and analyzing the effectiveness of remedial programs. It offers practical implications for optimizing the structure and timing of remedial programs and can support the development of adaptive learning systems tailored to student needs. This research demonstrates the potential of mathematical modeling for decision-making in education.

Abstract

Decimal numbers are difficult to understand by elementary school students because they consider fractions and decimals as different things. Therefore, learning decimal fractions should be associated with real experiences to make it more meaningful, one of which is through realistic mathematics education (RME) with Islamic context. This study aims to analyze students' understanding and response to RME with Islamic context by using mixed method. The population of this study were fourth grade students in one of the integrated Islamic elementary schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Data collection was done through tests and interviews. The results showed that 75.56% of students had good concept understanding skills. Students experience misconceptions in sorting one-digit and two-digit decimal numbers, even though the teacher has provided illustrations in learning and students also find their own position of one-digit and two-digit decimal numbers on the scale model. Based on interviews, it was found that students were very happy in participating in mathematics learning with an Islamic context because they could get a reward (pahala) while learning mathematics reading the Qur’an and getting new knowledge such as the story of the prophet Syuaib's people, sincerity in giving, and prioritizing honesty in trading.      Keywords: concept understanding ability, realistic mathematics education, Islamic context, decimal numbers.
