Abstract

Arabic language education in Indonesia faces the challenge of being perceived as mono-cultural and narrowly religious, often excluding broader multicultural contexts. This study explores Arabic language learning in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) across culturally diverse regions in Indonesia to identify how multicultural values are integrated into the curriculum. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research was conducted in six provinces: West Java, Central Java, East Java, Lombok, Bali, and Sulawesi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and surveys involving 50 Arabic teachers and 300 students in pesantren institutions. The findings reveal that Arabic learning in pesantren reflects four key dimensions of multicultural integration: cultural, social, intellectual, and spiritual. These dimensions shape learners’ engagement with Arabic not only as a religious language but also as a medium for intercultural dialogue and identity negotiation. Additionally, regional cultural influences significantly affect teaching strategies and learners’ motivations. The research highlights the potential of pesantren to serve as transformative spaces for multicultural Islamic education, bridging religious values with local cultural diversity. This study underscores the importance of recontextualizing Arabic instruction within Indonesia’s multicultural society, promoting inclusivity while maintaining pesantren’s core religious missions in the evolving landscape of education in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Abstract

The existence of the Multicultural class is an attraction, because not all schools dare to carry out the Multicultural class program in overcoming social inequalities that often occur. Cultural conflicts and violence in Papua, the assessment of the term dividing individuals through religion, riots, and intolerance are not new discourses that appear in the highlights of the mass media. The multicultural class bridges teaching related to these issues to the nation's children so as not to repeat the same case, realizes the value of Pancasila that we are one, and also interprets the country's motto, namely Bhineka Tunggal Ika. Religion is not necessarily taught to individuals for free, various media and methods are carried out for this teaching collaboration. It is not a taboo subject, Islam teaches the diversity of multicultural education implicitly in the Qur'anic text. So it is not impossible, religion and multicultural education become a harmonious blend in learning. In a society, religion is one of the factors that support life, especially in spiritual life. Therefore, the researcher considers it necessary to do community service based on these social phenomena, with the aim of strengthening the cultivation of religious and social character values for the community by contamination of the existence of various cultures of immigrants who settled with the intention of school students from outside the area.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the learning obstacles experienced by eighth-grade students at a Madrasah Tsanawiyah in studying the topic of al-Afʿāl al-Muʿrabāt. A qualitative approach was employed using the Didactical Design Research (DDR) method. Participants included 47 students and one Arabic teacher. Data were collected through tests and non-test instruments, including in-depth interviews. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s framework, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students experienced both ontogenic and epistemological obstacles. Ontogenic obstacles included psychological factors (such as low motivation and interest) and instrumental difficulties, with technical incomprehension being the primary challenge. These findings suggest the need for instructional solutions. The study recommends the development of a DDR-based learning design tailored to students’ needs and informed by the identified learning obstacles.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in education in the modern era. A platform called Classpoint AI (CAI) has been widely utilized across various educational levels and disciplines worldwide. Numerous studies have reported positive responses toward using CAI as an interactive learning medium and an automatic question generator based on Bloom’s Taxonomy. This study aims to analyze the quality of test items generated by CAI quantitatively. The accuracy of a test item must be empirically validated to ensure high-quality learning. A non-probability sampling technique, specifically total sampling, was employed to select 39 female students in Phase F as research participants. Data were collected through a test consisting of 14 multiple-choice questions created by CAI to assess reading comprehension proficiency in Arabic. An Ex-post facto method was used in this study, as the researcher did not modify the pre-programmed CAI system. Three software tools (SPSS, Anbuso, and Anates) were used to analyze the item quality, and teachervalidation was also included. The findings revealed that most of the test items generated by CAI were invalid and exhibited low reliability. The questions were predominantly classified as easy. CAI-generated items demonstrated poor discrimination power butcontained effective distractors. For foreign language learning, CAI-generated questions need to reconsider the complexity of the vocabulary used. Considering the widespread use of this platform among educators on an international scale, this study contributes a global perspective by highlighting the need for both developer evaluation and educator discernment in utilizing CAI.

Abstract

Arabic verbal gender agreement poses challenges for second-language learners due to its complexity. This study highlights the necessity for Arabic language programs to implement input at the appropriate level (i+1) and to foster a low-anxiety environment to enhance learner acquisition in line with Krashen's framework. The participants in this study were new students (level 1) with a background in public schools who were still categorized as beginner learners, totaling 29 students. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with 29 participants regarding their experiences in learning and understanding gender agreement, as well as observations to see how the language acquisition process occurs. Then, the data was analyzed using phenomenological thematic analysis. The findings reveal that learners who received comprehensible input at an appropriate level (i+1) demonstrated more accurate responses, suggesting effective language acquisition. In contrast, learners exposed to overly complex input (i+2 or higher) struggled to process the material effectively. Affective factors, such as motivation and anxiety, were also found to influence learning outcomes. High anxiety negatively impacted fluency, while a supportive learning environment enhanced language acquisition. This study highlights the importance of aligning teaching strategies with Krashen's theory, particularly the principle of comprehensible input. It is recommended that Arabic language curricula incorporate materials that gradually increase in difficulty (i+1), ensuring input is both challenging and accessible to learners. This approach can facilitate more effective language acquisition and improve overall student outcomes in Arabic language instruction

Abstract

Nowadays, character learning occupies an important position. There are many studies related to this and the Qur’āncan be a solution in the offer of language and character studies. This study aimed to reveal the way of conveying God (stylistics) to mankind contained in the Qur’ān. A qualitative approach was used with narrative inquiry. The data collection technique was done by analyzing the text of the document which was Al-Maidah verse 90 and 105, also An-Nisa verse 43, which was then analyzed for the data trustworthiness, consistency of research data, the possibility for generalization, neutrality, in a grounded theory research. The results of this study found 3 ways of conveying God to humans in the form of prohibitions or orders, the three appeals are as follows: first, in conveying the order, it is carried out in stages; secondly, the substance conveyed in the message is chosen which is very essential and basic; third, the context chosen is adjusted to the understanding of the aspect. The way God calls His servants with different contexts and appeals can be analyzed so that it is finally adopted as a way of conveying moral messages and character in learning. The results of this study can add to the scientific treasures in character-based language learning.

Abstract

This article aimed to map the reference level description of the Arabic Language Proficiency Test in Indonesia with an adaptation based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In this context, the article focused on developing reference level descriptions to assess Arabic language proficiency in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was used through document analysis. Evaluation questions on the Ikhtibarat Maharah Lughah Arabiyah (Imalah) test were cariied out as the data source as well as the CEFR guiding concept issued by Council of Europe. This research was carried out according to the design, namely starting with collecting data in the form of documents related to the CEFR and Arabic language tests, then the data collected was reduced and presented in the form of tables, diagrams or narratives and at the end there were conclusions drawn. The findings of this study reinforced the research objectives by demonstrating that the test includes reference level descriptions that are international standards. This assisted in assessing and understanding the extent to which an individual has mastered the Arabic language. In other words, these findings confirmed that the implementation of international reference level descriptions in the test supports the achievement of the established research objectives, which was to assist in assessing the language proficiency of individuals in Arabic. By adopting the CEFR, this not only helped to measure language proficiency easier, but also facilitated a better understanding of the level of Arabic competency required for educational, employment or general communication purposes.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the design, implementation, and evaluation of Arabic language curricula in Indonesia and the Philippines, as two national Arabic language curriculum systems in the Southeast Asian region. Employing a qualitative approach with a comparative case study design, the study utilizes document analysis as its primary method. Core data sources include Indonesia’s 2013 Curriculum and Merdeka Curriculum, as well as the Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) program in the Philippines. The analysis applies Posner’s five dimensions of curriculum; purposes, content, organization, implementation, and evaluation. The findings indicate that Indonesia’s curricula are centered on classical textual literacy and grammatical precision, yet lack adequate attention to oral communication skills. In contrast, the ALIVE curriculum promotes functional speaking ability from early stages but is limited in linguistic depth and assessment standardization. Both approaches demonstrate strengths and limitations in fostering comprehensive Arabic language competence. The study recommends the development of a more balanced curriculum integrating classical literacy and oral proficiency, supported by targeted teacher training and context-sensitive evaluation frameworks.
