Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the untranslatability occurred in the subtitle of The Big 4 (2022) movie from Indonesian as the source language (SL) to French as the target language (TL). The words or phrases in the subtitles taken from a movie streaming platform, Netflix, were analyzed using a qualitative method to analyze the type of untranslatability; whether it is a lexical or cultural untranslatability, factors that influence, and the techniques used by the translator to overcome the issues. The findings showed the existence of untranslatability in 107 instances, 24 of which were at the lexical level and 83 in cultural aspects. The translator utilized nine different translation techniques to address the untranslatability, including borrowing, naturalization, adaptation, particularisation, modulation, generalization, calque, established equivalence, and transposition. However, regardless of the phenomenon of untranslatability, the act of translation must continue. It is the duty of translators to be skillful in finding the equivalent expressions in the TL.

The findings of this study are, first, Junior and Senior High School students in Bengkulu like folklores from their district. Most of these students like legend’s type folklore compared to other type stories. Currently, folklores can still be found in the community, although it is not easy because the spoke person are old and many have died. The content of Bengkulu folklores has values or teachings about nature and ecosystem conservation. Second, local literature is taught in junior and senior high schools in Bengkulu. Students enjoy learning literature, especially local literature. The last, the level of environmental literacy among students is still relatively low. This can be seen by the lack of students' attention for waste and environmental conservation. In this regard, learning literature and folklore in schools is in line with students' eco-literacy competencies. However, this has not been implemented optimally, so it is hoped that local literature (folklore) can give contribution in nature and ecosystem conservations by increasing the eco-literacy of students and society.

Abstract

21st-century education requires learning to be carried out by utilizing technology. To fulfill the demands of the 21st century, teachers should be directed and encouraged to integrate the use of technology-based media into the process of teaching and learning. The present study aims to investigate the needs that inform the development of an application as a learning medium for writing poetry at the high school level. To achieve the objective, the study utilized a qualitative approach involving the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and data interpretation. The data were collected through a questionnaire and interview and analyzed using basic descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. The results showed that 1) students and teachers expect that the teaching and learning of poetry will utilize technology-based media such as Android-based cell phones. 2) In the Mobile Cipta Poetry application media, the students confirm the helpful features offered by the application, such as diction selection, relaxation music, sharing works, poetry manuscript banks, and peer evaluations. These findings indicate that the design of the Mobile Cipta Poetry (MCP) application has met the students’ and teachers’ needs. The study concludes that the difficulty and lack of motivation that the students face during the poetry writing activity may occur due to the lack of technology-based media. Therefore, it is necessary to develop IT-based media that can support the poetry writing process in the classroom.

Abstract

This research discusses using digital technology to improve speaking skills for BIPA francophone students. BIPA students frequently struggle to interact and communicate with Indonesian society daily, particularly those who identify as francophones. EC, a French BIPA UPI Education student, encountered one specific instance of these challenges. Her strong French accent interfered with his ability to pronounce words correctly in Indonesian and with her interactions with other Indonesians. Therefore, to realize active and communicative learning of BIPA speaking skills, appropriate media is needed to support it. In learning BIPA speaking skills, online platforms such as digital modules can improve verbal interaction and understanding of language context. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive design. This is based on research results in interviews with BIPA teachers. The research results show that digital technology-based BIPA teaching with Indonesian tourism and culture content significantly improves the speaking skills of francophone BIPA students. Improving speaking skills focuses on improving vocabulary and daily dialogue, including Indonesian tourism and cultural content, especially Bandung, Paris Van Java. AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas tentang penggunaan teknologi digital untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bagi para siswa BIPA frankofon. Abstract

Collaboration is one of the skills needed in the 21st century. Santa Angela Middle School responded to this demand by designing a collaborative project between subjects. This research aims to analyze the contribution of collaboration projects between subjects to developing students' literacy skills. Based on the results of observations and interviews, the collaborative learning model has a major contribution to the development and mastery of students' basic literacy. This is possible because students can learn several subjects in the collaboration model between students in one project. This approach pattern allows students to be trained to analyze, understand, and find solutions to every problem encountered in everyday life. Collaborative projects provide opportunities for students to collaborate with peers. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. This research shows that collaborative projects between subjects contribute to students' literacy skills. Through collaborative learning activities between subjects of various types, students' basic literacy skills experience significant changes and improvements. This happens because, in the collaborative learning process between subjects, students must have more reading comprehension by looking for important information related to the discussed topic.
