Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the Cooperative Integrated Reading And Composition model assisted by video media on its effect on reading comprehension and critical thinking. With a hypothesis that has a significant effect on students' reading comprehension and critical thinking skills, this research departs from the low reading comprehension ability and critical thinking skills of students at SDN Cihanjawar 02. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental method is the method used in this research. Meanwhile, the design used is a non-equivalent group by conducting a pretest and posttest. Management techniques are carried out using normality tests, homogeneity tests, t tests and effect sizes. With the results of this research data analysis, there is an influence arising from the use of the Cooperative Integrated Reading And Composition model on the ability to read comprehension and critical thinking of fifth grade students at SDN Cihanjawar 02 based on the results of the Independent Sample T test obtained a sig (2-taled) value of 0.025 < 0.05 for reading comprehension ability and 0.010 <0.05 which means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. With the influence seen from the effect size test of 0.54 for reading comprehension skills and 0.60 for critical thinking skills, it can be said that the Cooperative Integrated Reading And Compositon model assisted by video media has a moderate effect. Abstract

This research explores the representation of bullying in a French film entitled "Respire" by Anne-Sophie Brasme in 2014. This research uses a qualitative analysis and the Roland Barthles semiotic method by examining the denotation, connotation, and mythical signs contained in the movie scenes. Furthermore, this study also classifies the types of bullying in the movie and discusses how to countermeasures the bullying through character education. The results show that the film Respire depicts the dynamics of bullying, including the factors that influence the perpetrator's behavior and the victim's response. The types of bullying in the film are verbal bullying, non-verbal bullying, physical bullying, cyber bullying, and social/psychological bullying. This movie is used as a means to discuss the issue of bullying in the context of character education, relying on the importance of the role of parents and teachers as role models for students to implement character education. The activities that can be carried out to prevent bullying in educational institutions include school orientation activities, class socialization about bullying, and parent meetings with the teachers to provide psychological studies of child development. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of bullying and the importance of integrating character education to form a more resilient and empathetic student character to avoid bullying behavior.

Abstract

Global connectedness and the introduction of technology have made it possible for speakers of the three languages to communicate with each other on a larger scale in Indonesian context, commonly known as Trigatra Bahasa. Understanding language politics in Indonesia through Trigatra Bahasa with the slogan "Prioritize Indonesian, preserve regional languages, and master foreign languages" is an effort by the government to embrace all languages in Indonesia, especially among digital natives. This research aims to find out the extent of digital native students' understanding of the Trigatra Bahasa and to find out how they hope to understand the Trigatra Bahasa better. The method used was descriptive qualitative, and data were collected through questionnaires to 325 digital native students in West Java using a Likert scale with five assessment points. Before distributing the questionnaire, socialization was conducted so that these digital native students were familiar with Trigatra Bahasa. The results of this study show that most digital native students have a good understanding of the Trigatra Bahasa. They also strongly understand that the Trigatra Bahasa creates harmony in the language treasures of Indonesia. However, there is still a lack of familiarisation among them, so almost all respondents agree that an informative and interactive application related to Trigatra Bahasa is needed.

Abstract

Written corrective feedback (WCF) in second-language writing studies has been conducted over the last two decades to investigate whether it has a positive or negative impact on students' writing skills. Teachers can use direct WCF or indirect WCF strategies to provide this feedback. However, conflicting views still exist on which WCF strategy is most effective in improving second language writing skills. This study aims to examine the effects of implementing direct and indirect written corrective feedback on the enhancement of French writing skills. The research employed a quantitative approach utilizing a static-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants in this study consisted of fifty-six students enrolled in the French Language Education Study Program at a public university in Bandung, Indonesia. They were divided into two experimental groups, referred to as the direct and indirect written corrective feedback groups. They were assessed through a writing test for French narrative texts. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS, employing normality and homogeneity tests, as well as the N-Gain test and Mann-Whitney U test which aimed to determine the average differences and their significance. The findings indicated that the direct written corrective feedback group exhibited a significantly greater improvement (N-Gain score: 0.3229) compared to the indirect written corrective feedback group (N-Gain score: 0.1174). Nonetheless, the statistical analysis utilizing the Mann-Whitney U test found no significant difference in the N-Gain scores between the two WCF classes (p0.05). The results of this research are expected to contribute to second language writing studies and provide insights for teachers in teaching writing in French as a foreign language.

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the untranslatability occurred in the subtitle of The Big 4 (2022) movie from Indonesian as the source language (SL) to French as the target language (TL). The words or phrases in the subtitles taken from a movie streaming platform, Netflix, were analyzed using a qualitative method to analyze the type of untranslatability; whether it is a lexical or cultural untranslatability, factors that influence, and the techniques used by the translator to overcome the issues. The findings showed the existence of untranslatability in 107 instances, 24 of which were at the lexical level and 83 in cultural aspects. The translator utilized nine different translation techniques to address the untranslatability, including borrowing, naturalization, adaptation, particularisation, modulation, generalization, calque, established equivalence, and transposition. However, regardless of the phenomenon of untranslatability, the act of translation must continue. It is the duty of translators to be skillful in finding the equivalent expressions in the TL.

Currently, folklores can still be found in the community, although it is not easy because the spoke person are old and many have died. The content of Bengkulu folklores has values or teachings about nature and ecosystem conservation. Second, local literature is taught in junior and senior high schools in Bengkulu. Students enjoy learning literature, especially local literature. The last, the level of environmental literacy among students is still relatively low.
