Abstract

This study aims to determine the antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract of red spinach leaves (Amaranthus tricolor L.) on male mice. The study was conducted experimentally using 25 male mice divided into 5 treatment groups, namely the negative control group (CMC Na 0.5%), positive control (glibenclamide 0,65 mg/kg BW), and 3 others groups given ethanol extract of red spinach leaves at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg BW. Mice were induced with streptozotocin (STZ) dose of 100 mg/kgbw intraperitoneally. After 72 hours, diabetic mice were treated for 15 days orally and blood glucose levels were checked every 5 days.using a glucotest device. The results showed that Ethanol extract od Red Spinach Leaves (EERSL) doses of 100 and 400 mg/kg BW were not significantly different from the negative control CMC Na (p>0.05) in reducing blood glucose levels. EERSL doses 200 mg/kgbw and positive control glibenclamide significantly reduce blood glucose levels campared to negative control CMC Na (p<0.05). Ethanol extract of red spinach leaves has antidiabetic activity on male mice at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW, whose effect is not significantly different compared to the glibenclamide.

Abstract

Halitosis or bad breath can occur due to poor oral hygiene care, dental caries or infections in the oral cavity. The use of mouth fresheners is one of the solution product to overcome the problem. Oral Thin Film Strip (OTFS) is an alternative mouth freshener. The preparation of OTFS was carried out using the solvent casting method. Five film formula were made with varying concentrations of gelatin and HPMC, namely F1 (0:3), F2 (1:3), F3 (1:1), F4 (3:1), and F5 (3:0). Evaluation of the preparation included organoleptic test, weight uniformity, thickness, disintegration time, pH, and folding resistance. Stability testing was carried out for 3 months at 25±2°C and 40±2°C. Antibacterial activity test against Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) on the preparation was done using disc diffusion method. The OTFS preparation produced gave a homogeneous colour, aroma and taste of the extract. The resulting preparation had weight between 0.345-0.180 grams, thickness between 0.148-0.247 mm, disintegration time of 44-60 seconds, a pH between 6.06-6.33, and a film folding resistance between 339.83-673.67 times. The preparation was stable in storage for 3 months at a temperature of 25±2℃ and 40±2℃. The preparation showed antibacterial activity against S. mutans with zone of inhibition between 8.0-9.1 mm. Clove leaf ethanol extract can be formulated into OTFS preparations with good physical characteristics, stable in 3 months storage and had antibacterial activity against S. mutans so that it has the potential to overcome bad breath.

Abstract

DAGUSIBU adalah singkatan dari DA (Dapatkan obat dengan benar), GU (Gunakan obat dengan benar), SI (Simpan Obat dengan benar) dan BU (Buang obat dengan benar) adalah program tentang cara mengelola obat mulai dari cara mendapatkannya sampai membuangnya. Di Indonesia khususnya Desa Biru-Biru, Kecamatan Biru-Biru, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, pemahaman Masyarakat dalam menggunakan dan mengelola obat dengan cara yang baik dan tepat masih kurang. Pengabdian Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberi edukasi kepada masyarakat terkait cara penggunaan obat yang baik dan benar, menjamin kehidupan yang sehat dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan sehingga diharapkan masyarakat khususnya masyarakat Desa Biru-Biru Kecamatan Biru-Biru Kabupaten Deli Serdang lebih edukatif dan informatif dalam menggunakan obat-obatan.

Abstract

Doxorubicin, a well-known chemotherapy drug, is associated with cardiac toxicity primarily due to oxidative stress. This oxidative stress leads to the production of reactive oxygen species and a subsequent decline in antioxidant levels. As doxorubicin induces the formation of free radicals and decreases endogenous antioxidants, it triggers various hematological and biochemical abnormalities. Consequently, the use of antioxidants has been proposed as a strategy to mitigate this damage. This study focuses on the administration of ethanol extract from Andaliman (EAF) fruit, recognized for its rich array of metabolites and antioxidant properties, which may serve as a cardioprotective agent against the adverse effects of doxorubicin. The research involved comprehensive observations, including hematological and clinical chemistry examinations. The findings indicate that EAF demonstrates protective effects by enhancing hematological and clinical chemistry parameters in male Wistar rats subjected to doxorubicin. Notably, these improvements were statistically significant when compared to the control group. Given its promising results, further exploration of EAF as a protective agent for hematological and biochemical health warrants attention and development.

Abstract

This study explores problem-solving skills in physics education by systematically reviewing literature from articles published between 2015 and 2024. The review adhered to the PRISMA-P guidelines and analyzed 18 relevant studies sourced from the Scopus database. The findings reveal that the majority of research focuses on enhancing students' problem-solving abilities, particularly in terms of improving critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity in physics instruction. The integration of technology into teaching methods also emerged as a prominent trend in supporting the development of these skills. High school students were the most common research subjects, followed by college students, underscoring the importance of fostering problem-solving abilities early in education. Furthermore, the study highlights a predominance of quantitative and mixed-methods approaches, suggesting the need for more research into practical classroom applications. The study recommends further investigation into adaptive learning models and calls for more qualitative research to deepen the understanding of problem-solving skills in physics education.

Abstract

Ikan selar merupakan salah satu jenis ikan air laut yang mengandung gizi yang sangat baik  meliputi air  (59%), protein (27%) dan lemak (3,3%). Ikan ini merupakan salah satu ikan yang dihasilkan oleh nelayan di Desa Pasar Baru Kecamatan Teluk Mengkudu, Sumatera Utara. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang gizi dan pemanfaatan ikan selar dalam bentuk olahan makanan sehat dan bergizi untuk mencegah stunting. Pelatihan yang dilakukan menggunakan metode sosialisasi, edukasi gizi dan praktek langsung pembuatan snackbar, serta evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman masyarakat sebelum dan setelah kegiatan meningkat dari 78% menjadi 92%-100%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini terbukti memiliki dampak yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan hasil laut sebagai solusi dalam mengatasi stunting. Kegiatan pengabdian ini tidak hanya bermanfaat dalam mencegah stunting, tetapi juga meningkatkan perekonomian dengan membuka peluang usaha lokal bagi masyarakat desa Pasar Baru

Abstract

Aniline transport using a supported liquid membrane technique has been carried out in the separation of aniline from aqueous solutions. The aniline transport process used vegetable oil as a liquid membrane and ceramics as a support material. The concentration aniline was determined using an UltraViolet-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 230 nm. Optimal conditions found that a good type of liquid membrane was olive oil, a pH value of 3 in the source phase, the concentration of aniline 12 x 10-5 M, the concentration of HCl 1.0 M, and a stirring time of 90 minutes. Under optimum conditions, the percentage of aniline in the receiving phase was 36.19% and source phase was 1.48%. HCl is not able to attract all the molecules that are in the membrane phase. The receiving compound which has a strong affinity will provide a large amount of transport for the aniline transport process.

Abstract

Hasil dari pohon lontar di Desa Borongtala biasanya berupa minuman dan makanan kerajinan dari daun lontar. Akan tetapi, potensi dari pertanian pohon lontara ini belum memberikan sumbangsih terhadap peningkatan pendapatan masyarakat, dikarenakan pengembangan dan pemberdayaan dalam sektor hasil pertanian pohon lontara masih dikembangkan secara tradisional dan manual. Tujuan dari program ini adalah sebagai desa pertanian unggul yang dapat memberdayakan, mengembangkan, dan mengoptimalkan, serta mampu menciptakan lapangan kerja dengan memaksimalkan olahan hasil pohon lontara dan terbentuknya wisata kebun lontara, sehingga terciptanya masyarakat Desa Borongtala yang aktif, kreatif, inovatif, produktif, mandiri, dan sejahtera. Metode pelaksanaan program ini secara luring dengan pengontrolan selama kegiatan berlangsung dengan metode kerja kolaborasi antara Masyarakat, petani, mahasiswa dari Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa  Fakultas Agama Islam (BEM FAI), pihak kampus, dosen pendamping dan pemerintah setempat serta mitra yang yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan. Dalam pelaksanaanya, kami banyak memberikan pelatihan-pelatihan secara langsung ke masyarakat sasaran, seperti petani pohon lontara. Pelatihan yang kami adakan seperti pelatihan pembuatan Nata De Tala yaitu produk terbaru yang dihasilkan dari sari pohon lontara, kami melakukan kerjasama dengan Balai latihan Kerja (BLK) Jeneponto dalam pembuatan produk ini. Pelatihan selanjutnya adalah pengemasan gula merah, buah lontara, dan sari pohon lontara. Pelatihan pengemasan ini dilakukan yaitu untuk meng-upgrade pengemasan demi meningkatkan nilai jual produk dan kebersihan kemasan, sehingga konsumen tertarik pada produk ini. Di samping itu, kami juga melakukan pemetaan lokasi kebun wisata dan workshop pengurusan BPOM, P-IRT, dan Halal MUI. Sasarannya agar supaya masyarakat paham tentang pengurusan-pengurusan tersebut, sehingga dapat terbentuk usaha-usaha berbasis produk hasil olahan pohon lontar.

Abstract

Buah bit telah lama dimanfaatkan masyarakat Afrika sebagai obat tradisional untuk meningkatkan stamina dan mengurangi masalah pencernaan karena kandungannya yang kaya akan karbohidrat, beta karoten, protein, serat, kalsium dan vitamin C. Di Indonesia sendiri khususnya di Desa Semangat, Kecamatan Merdeka, Kabupaten Karo, pengolahan buah bit hasil tani masyarakat kurang dapat dioptimalkan karena rasanya yang langu dan baunya yang kurang menyenangkan membuat masyarakat kurang menyenangi buah ini. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan alternatif kepada masyarakat Desa Semangat dalam mengolah buah bit menjadi hidangan minuman dan makanan sehat. Tim telah melakukan sosialisasi, edukasi dan pendampingan dalam mengolah buah bit menjadi minuman dan makanan sehat berupa sirup dan dodol. Sebelum kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan, tingkat pemahaman dan minat masyarakat berada dalam rentang 16-68%, sedangkan setelah kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan, tingkat pemahaman dan minat masyarakat berada dalam rentang 80-100%. Pengabdian masyarakat yang telah dilaksanakan ini telah terbukti meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan buah bit menjadi olahan produk pangan berupa dodol dan sirup konsentrat. Selain bermanfaat bagi kesehatan, olahan produk ini dapat menjadi produk usaha yang memiliki peluang daya saing yang tinggi ke depannya.

Abstract

This systematic literature review explores the coffee supply chain in West Sumatra, a region renowned for its strong agricultural heritage and substantial coffee production. The study aims to synthesize previous research and identify key factors influencing the supply chain stages—production, processing, marketing, and distribution. Using a structured methodology based on systematic review protocols, this research integrates findings from various academic sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The reviewed literature reveals both challenges and opportunities within the West Sumatran coffee supply chain. Major challenges include post-harvest quality management, limited market access, and low adoption of sustainable practices, all of which affect competitiveness. The findings highlight the importance of effective governance and stakeholder collaboration in improving operational efficiency and market adaptability. Additionally, technological innovation and digital marketing are recognized as crucial in transforming the supply chain, supporting smallholder farmers, and expanding market reach. Overall, this review underscores the complexity and significance of West Sumatra’s coffee supply chain, emphasizing the need for integrated, sustainable, and innovative strategies to strengthen resilience and global competitiveness.
