Abstract

This paper discussed the design of simulation model for a specific flexible manufacturing system (FMS) workstation. It consist of four CNC machines with identical processing capability, a stacker crane as material handling equipment, pallet stocker as material storage location and a computer centre as integrator of all workstation’s elements. Jobs to be processed are multi-stages which are divided by setup activity. A certain stage must be allocated on a single machine to avoid damage due to frequent material handling. Each stage consists of several operations and each operation requires a specific cutting tool. Thus, the capability of a particular machine to process a certain stage will depend on its cutting tools availability. When jobs-machine allocation has been created, it will guide the movement of material handling equipment to conduct material pickup and delivery. In this setting, the material handling equipment will perform as a shared resource, accommodating the movement of multiple jobs. By designing simulation model, this research is aimed to help production planner on determining three important decisions in timely fashion; the job-machine allocation, the number of cutting tools to be prepared on each machine’s tools magazine and the priority rule for guiding material handling equipment.

Abstract

The ITHB Industrial Engineering Study Program plans to create a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) model for the learning process. FMS is a manufacturing system consisting of a workstation, material handling system, storage, or Automatic Storage and Retrieval System (AS / RS), and a computer management system. The workstations in the system studied consist of four CNC machines and two loading/unloading stations for loading and unloading workpieces and attaching workpieces to a fixture. The FMS has a computer control system that makes the system on the model under study run automatically. The monitoring system in the FMS model is a Shop Floor Control System (SFCS) which provides real-time information on the status of the workpiece, part number, number, operation, tool type requirements, and location of the workpiece. One method to build a Shop Floor Control System model is to use Object-Oriented Modeling (OOM). OOM describes the state (state), nature (behavior), and identity (identity) for each workpiece. In this research, an SFCS model has been designed and developed using integrated hardware, software, and interfaces. The hardware consists of a microcontroller and an RFID reader which is used to retrieve data. Software is used to process, send, and store data into a database. The interface serves as an interface to show these data and confirm the movement of the workpiece. The model developed has been tested with several kinds of data and status conditions, as well as the location of the workpiece. From the monitoring results, the SCFS model can show the accuracy of the status and location of the workpiece in real-time.

Abstract

Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) is one of the most critical oil & gas equipment in Tuban East Java (TEJ) field. This research applies Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) to oil & gas to optimize maintenance methods for ESP at the TEJ field. The RCM was applied based on the historical failure events at equipment which caused Loss Production Opportunity (LPO). Start with Pareto chart, the RCM followed by Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) that produced the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for the 80% problems. The last step provided the optimum maintenance periods using Weibull’s statistic. The result shows that flat cable in ESP has the highest RPN. Flat cable requires an optimum maintenance period of 509 days and a total cost of US$59,342. The total cost consists of Periodic Maintenance (PM) and Risk costs.

Abstract

Currently, research on natural fiber composites (NFC) for automotive applications has attracted the attention of researchers and academics. Natural fibers such as coconut fiber and wood powder are mixed with metal materials such as aluminum and copper to obtain the composite characteristics of automatic motorcycle clutch pad materials. Coconut fiber and wood powder are suitable natural materials for composites and are easily obtained from waste. Natural fiber materials with metal reinforcement into composites are expected to produce materials suitable for friction materials such as clutch pads and brake pads with a good characteristic. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the coefficient of friction, wear, and hardness of NFC materials reinforced aluminum and copper powder for the performance of automatic motorcycle clutch pads. Experiments were carried out on various compositions of aluminum and copper powder. Tribometer testing was carried out to determine the friction coefficient and wear. Hardness testing using the Vickers method and testing the performance of automatic motorbikes with a chassis dyno test. The results show that the performances of the clutch pad with NFC-reinforced aluminum and copper show power and torque results that resemble the performances of genuine part materials in each operating cycle. The value of friction coefficient, wear, and hardness of this material are a value close to that of a genuine part clutch pad material. The improved performance of this material is expected to be considered in the manufacture of future clutch pads.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the prosocial motivation of volunteers, to find out the obstacles faced by volunteers and to find out the reasons why volunteers can survive in KPKAPK. This research is a field research using case study method. Data collection techniques used semi-structured interviews, observation and documentation, and the subjects in this study were 3 volunteers and 4 year old informants. The results showed that the motivation of volunteers at first was not purely altruistic, but also based on seeking benefits for themselves, for those whose personal goals were achieved, many volunteers left the community. As for the volunteers who still survive because they begin to develop empathy to continue to do good, then they feel that the dimensions of self-functionality as volunteers are fulfilled. The dimensions of self-functionality include values, social, understanding, career, self- improvement and self-protection. Each subject has all six dimensions, but there is only one dimension that is the strongest as the reasons and goals for volunteers to survive. Constraints faced by volunteers consist of internal and external factors. Internal factors such as busyness, cost and boredom. External factors such as lack of support from the foundation, lack of facilities, too pressured by the foundation, lack of human resources, lack of synergy between volunteers and the lack of application of organizational sciences.

Abstract

Mechanical failures can cause Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) disruptions, shortening their lifespan. Despite improvements in run-time, unexpected failures still result in significant production deferment and loss, especially for oil & gas production equipment in Tuban East Java (TEJ) field. Therefore, we used Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) to analyze FMEA, employing two methods: Montgomery and Runger's (MGR) and Bernard's approaches. The MGR approach provided a better prediction of the failure rate. The ESP flat cable has the highest RPN, requiring maintenance of US$59,342 for an ideal 509-day period.
