Abstract

Air pollution was being a very important problem and danger for human life. This was related to diseases that arise due to motor vehicle emissions, especially carbon monoxide. Simulation of air dispersion models is the one way to study about air quality that is needed in this regard. This study aims to determine the distribution of carbon monoxide pollutants in Ahmad Yani's frontage and to anticipate the dangers of these pollutants to the health of the people living around the research location. This research discussed about the mathematical model of the dispersion of CO that emitted from cars that passed through the frontage road on the Ahmad Yani Street, Surabaya. The method used is direct observation in the field and numerical simulation using a mathematical model, Gaussian Line Source Equation Model (GLSEM). GLSEM had prepared based on the mechanism of transport of pollutants in dispersion, diffusion and advection. With GLSEM we calculated CO gas concentration values for certain heights downwind. We validated the model by comparing numerical results and measurements of CO concentration. We used the R2 test and we got an R2 close to one. We simulated GLSEM by used Fortran programming language and visualized it with Surfer. The results of the visualization in June showed that the pattern of CO gas dispersion was influenced by the direction and speed of the wind. The results obtained are that the distribution of CO pollutants in the Ahmad Yani frontage is horizontal/downwind. CO concentrations at night are higher than during the daytime. From the CO dispersion pattern, we had known that there were dangerous of air around the frontage for people health. We conclude that around the frontage road of the Ahmad Yani highway there is sufficient open air space so that the danger of CO pollutants being emitted can be minimized so that the health of the community, namely pedestrians, motorcycle drivers and the community around the location can be protected.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), has become the fastest growing Vector Borne disease (VBD) in the world over the last few decades, with an increase of 30 times. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the characteristics, behavior of 3M, and climate factors with cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Indonesia. This research was conducted using a literature review method. The research was conducted online by taking research objects in English and Indonesian journals that discussed cases of DHF in Indonesia. The sample used was appropriate and determined in this study totaling 45 research articles. The results showed that men were more likely to be infected with DHF because they were more active outside the home. The age prone to DHF is the age under 16 years old, or the toddler, child, and early teens. The education of the head of the family is also an important factor in efforts to control the dengue outbreak. The results of the literature review show that the characteristics have a significant relationship with dengue cases. Not all people are aware of the importance of 3M behavior, seen from the proportion of people who apply 3M less than people who apply 3M. 3M's behavior is a factor that can reduce the occurrence of dengue cases. Stakeholders or policy makers in the health sector, especially those in charge of controlling the dengue outbreak, should take the results of this study into consideration in determining regulations or policies related to dengue outbreak control.

Abstract

Introduction: Diarrhea is an endemic disease that causes extraordinary events (pandemic) and is often accompanied by death in Indonesia. Previous reports showed that children who practice poor hand washing or without using soap and running water are 2.175 times more likely to experience diarrhea. It was also discovered that exclusive breastfeeding can form antibodies and other nutrients that protect babies from infections such as diarrhea. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the most influential factors between hand washing habits and exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of diarrhea in Indonesia. Methods: This study used a meta-analysis method. Results and Discussions: The results showed that the pooled PR value of the hand washing habit variable e1.06 = 2.886 (95% CI 0.87 - 1.24) was greater than the exclusive breastfeeding e0.53 = 1.698 (95% CI 0.36 – 0.70). The data were obtained from articles and journals with a cross-sectional study design. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, people who did not apply proper hand washing habits are 2,886 times more at risk of diarrhea. Furthermore, babies who were not exclusively breastfed were 1,698 times more likely to have diarrhea than those who received exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: The results showed that the most influential factor between the two variables was the hand washing habit variable.

Abstract

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by the morbillivirus. According to WHO data, measles is one of the worldwide leading causes of death in children and infants. Indonesia is one of the ten countries with the most significant measles cases worldwide. Cases in Indonesia have increased due to a decrease in immunization coverage in Indonesia during the pandemic.  Besides low immunization coverage, other factors that influence the incidence of measles in Indonesia are nutritional status, mother’s knowledge, and occupancy density. This study aims to analyze the risk factors of immunization status, nutritional status, Mother’s knowledge, and occupancy density for measles in Indonesia.  This study used a meta-analysis method. The data sources used are Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct, from 2012-2021. The research articles found in this study are 148 articles. The report is then selected by screening to choose the year and research method and continued selection using inclusion criteria. Thus, the articles analyzed in this article are 23 research articles. The results showed that the variable immunization status, nutritional status, Mother knowledge, and occupancy density have risk factors for the incidence of measles in Indonesia. The result of measuring the pooled OR value sequentially from immunization status, nutritional status, mother’s knowledge, and occupancy density is e1.26=3.53; e0.72= 2.05; e1.36= 3.82;  e1.34= 3.89. The variable with the highest risk factor value for measles incidence in Indonesia is the occupancy density, followed by the Mother’s knowledge; immunization status; and nutritional status.

Abstract

Piper betle L var Nigra (black betel) is a member of Piperaceae family which has potential as medicinal plant due to its secondary metabolites. Callus culture is one of the alternative methods to elevate production of secondary metabolites. This study was aimed to determine the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 6-benzil aminopurine (BAP) towards callus induction and growth, also to determine the most optimal variation of 2,4-D and BAP concentration for callus induction of black betel leaf explant. This study was a laboratory experimental study with complete randomized design. Black betel leaf explant was planted in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2,4-D and BAP growth regulators at concentration of 0.0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 1.0 mg/L, 1.5 mg/L, 2.0 mg/L respectively. Parameter recorded for callus induction and growth including callus induction time (days), percentage of explant forming callus, fresh weight, dry weight, color and texture. After callus planted for 8 weeks, analysis was performed statistically. Result showed that 2,4-D and BAP supplementation to medium affected the growth of black bete l leaf explants. Additional concentration of 0.5 mg/L 2,4-D and 1.0 mg/L BAP growth regulators showed the fastest response in callus formation, at 7.25 days. Growth regulators of 2,4-D 0.5 mg/L and BAP 2.0 mg/L concentration produced the highest fresh and dry weight, at 0.6802 g and 0.0670 g respectively. The best treatment was used as a basis to produce secondary metabolites.
