Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) cases in Indonesia are most prevalent in West Java, East Java, and Central Java Provinces. TB cases in those provinces accounted for 38% of all incident TB cases in Indonesia. Transmission of the disease is influenced by environmental factors and unhealthy behavior. Environmental factors that affect the incidence of TB such as temperature, humidity, and natural lighting. This was an observational research, using case-control study design. Data then compared with the Regulation of Health Minister Republic Indonesia No. 1077 in 2011 about Guideline for Air Sanitation in the Home Space and Decision of Health Minister Republic Indonesia No. 829 in 1999 about Housing Health Requirement. Samples were taken by pusposive sampling with a sample size of 10 houses of pulmonary TB patients and 10 home instead of pulmonary TB patiens. Data collection using observation sheet and measurement. Air sampling using Microbial Air Sampler (MAS), then samplees sent to the laboratory for examination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. The result showed that most of the temperature, humidity, natural lighting, wide ventilation, and light intensity in the home of tuberculosis patiens not eligible. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was found in all TB home patients. People should maintain the cleanliness of the house by cleaning the floor with disinfectant and adding ventilation to improve air circulation and the sunlight can enter the room.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe use of personal protective equipment and personal hygiene is a factor that affects the occurrence of contact dermatitis. The aim of this study is to describe characteristics of workers, use of PPE, personal hygiene, and contact dermatitis in workers. This research is descriptive research with cross sectional design. This research used total populated sampling with 20 respondents in metal household coating industry of Waru and Candi Subdistrict, Sidoarjo. The results showed that the majority of workers 55% were 26-35 years old, 50% with 2-3 years working years, 50% with contact frequency <150 times and >150 times, 30% with exposure time 3.25 hours/day, 5 hours/day, and 8 hours/day. The highest percentage of APD frequency glove use is often 66% of industry Y, frequency is sometimes 58% industry Z, and frequency is never 17% industry Y. The highest percentage of APD frequency boot APD often 50% in industry X and Y, frequency is sometimes 50% industry X, and the frequency is never 50% industry Y. Personal hygiene is done by 50% of industrial workers X, 17% of industrial workers Y, 58% of industrial workers Z and personal hygiene is not good done by 50% of industrial workers X, 83% Y, 42% of industrial workers Z. Contact dermatitis experienced 100% industrial workers X, 83% of industrial workers Y, and 83% of industrial workers Z in the form of skin irritation of hands and feet. The advice given is to provide counseling on matters that can cause contact dermatitis in workers. Key word : characteristics of workers, use of PPE, personal hygiene, contact dermatitis

Abstract

A hot working environment can cause health problems for workers, one of them being dehydration. The hydration status of a worker can be influenced by the characteristic of the worker, physical environmental factors, and fluid intake. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between workers’ characteristics, physical environmental factors, and fluid intake with the hydration status of workers. This study was conducted using the cross-sectional design method and used a simple random sampling technique to select  17 respondents and 17 home industries originally derived from 20 respondents and 20 home industries. The research location was on Jalan Banyu Urip Lor X Surabaya. Data were analyzed using cross-tabulation and fisher’s exact test with a confidence level of 95%. The data were collected through interviews, measurements, questionnaires, and verification. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between physical environmental factors, which included temperature (p = 0.002), humidity (p = 0.029), and fluid intake (p = 0.029), with the hydration status of workers. In general, it can be concluded that physical environmental factors and fluid intake are relevant towards the hydration status of workers. Therefore, it is recommended that the workers improve air circulation in the room by adding natural ventilation, an exhaust fan in the kitchen, and are advised to consume enough mineral water while working.Keywords: temperature, humidity, fluid intake, hydration status

Abstract

Introduction: Industry is a place where many individuals work. In the industrial field, one can do work by utilizing. However, high-tech applications can cause noise in industrial areas. The discomfort of this sound may indirectly pose a risk of health problems, including hearing loss. Methods: The method used in this study was a literature review study with an in-depth review of the articles through an electronic article data base with the keywords noise, hearing loss, and industrial workers. Then, a screening was carried out based on articles that have been published in a period of five years, and the sorting of articles was conducted according to the inclusion criteria, namely primary data research with cross sectional design, not descriptive research. Results: The journal research phase resulted in up to 101 papers, with 51 papers screened under pre-determined conditions. Then, sorting based on inclusion criteria resulted in 28 items. Finally, as many as 11 relevant articles and the full text were obtained as a result. Based on the review of the article, it is known that hearing loss that occurs among industrial workers is influenced by several problems in the industry such as the absence of noise measurements, the absence of ear health checks for workers, and the unavailability of ear protection equipment. Conclusion: Based on the review of the articles, it is known that hearing loss is caused by high noise levels. Besides, there are other factors that can affect hearing loss in workers such as age, working period, use of ear protection equipment, and a history of ear disease.Keywords: hearing loss, industry, literature review, noise

Abstract

Introduction: Organic solvents are chemicals that are often used by the printing industry and contain Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene which are toxic to humans. Chemicals that contain organic solvents are ink, glue, and others. Workers who are regularly exposed to organic solvents can have health complaints. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints due to exposure to organic solvents in the Sidoarjo offset printing. Methods: This research was an observational study with cross sectional design. Population in this research was 30 workers. The sampling technique used simple random sampling and from the calculation results were obtained 24 respondents. This study had an independent variable, which was workers’ characteristics consisting of age, smoking habits, and work tenure. The dependent variable was health complaints of printing workers. Data collection used questionnaires and interviews. The research data were analyzed using fisher’s exact test to show the correlation between workers’ characteristics and health complaints. Results: The result of the analysis test found that there was no correlation between age (p=0.386) and smoking habits (p=0.376) with health complaints of workers. Moreover, the analysis test showed that work tenure variable had a correlation with health complaints of workers (p=0.041). Conclusion: A factor related to health complaints of workers was work tenure.Keywords: health complaints, organic solvents, worker characteristics

Abstract

Introduction: Home metal industry is an informal industry activity engaged in the manufacture of metal. The process of metal-making crates noise that causes hearing loss complaints in workers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between workers’ individual characteristics and hearing complaints in metal-making home industry workers in Ngingas North Village, Sidoarjo Regency. Methods: This research used an analytic observational method with a cross sectional design. The population was 28 workers, and the research samples were 23 workers in the metal cutting and welding areas, determined using a purposive sampling technique referring to the inclusion criteria. The independent variables used in this study was individual characteristics including age, years of work, and the utilization of ear protection. The dependent variable in this study was hearing complaint and the data analysis used contingency coefficient C method. Results: Most workers were aged 26-45 years at 65.2%, had years of service >15 years at 43.5%, did not use ear protection at 69.6%, and complained of hearing loss at 65.2%. The results of the contingency coefficient C test analysis obtained a p-value <0.05 between individual characteristics and hearing complaints. Conclusion: There was a relationship between individual characteristics including age, years of service, and use of ear protection and hearing complaints.Keywords: ear protection, age, hearing complaints, years of work

Abstract

Pencemaran udara merupakan masalah yang banyak terjadi di kota besar, salah satunya adalah Kota Surabaya. Pencemaran udara paling banyak diakibatkan oleh kendaraan bermotor. Salah satu gangguan kesehatan yang dapat timbul akibat pencemaran udara adalah ISPA (Infeksi Saluran Pernafasan Akut). Gas SO2 merupakan zat pencemar udara dan merupakan salah satu faktor risiko kejadian ISPA. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kualitas udara di Kota Surabaya masih tergolong baik dengan rata-rata kadar SO2 di Kecamatan Rungkut adalah 11,06 µg/m3, sedangkan kadar SO2 di Kecamatan Jambangan adalah 6,01 µg/m3. Sementara itu, kejadian ISPA di Kecamatan Rungkut adalah 12,73 per 1.000 penduduk dan 25,12 per 1.000 penduduk di Kecamatan Jambangan. Ada hubungan antara kejadian ISPA dengan kadar SO2 di Kecamatan Rungkut dengan koefisien korelasi 0,42 (nilai p = 0,036). Sebaliknya, di Kecamatan Jambangan menghasilkan koefisien korelasi -0,45 (nilai p = 0,024) antara kejadian ISPA dengan kadar SO2.

Abstract

ABSTRACT            Dicranoloma reflexum and Dicranella coarctata are mosses from Dicranaceae family. This study was purposed to identify bioactive compounds contained from both species. Dicranoloma reflexum and Dicranella coarctata collected form Cangar forest, Batu, East Java. Mosses was rinsed, dried and crushed into powder. Extraction was performed using maceration method with n-hexane, acetic acid, and methanol solvent. Compounds obtained then identified using Gass Chromatography Mass Spectra. Result showed that n-hexane, acetic ethyl, and methanol extract of Dicranoloma reflexum contained 61, 16, and 58 compounds respectively. Main component of each extract was 1-octadecene, phenol, and 9-octadecanoic acid. N-hexane, acetic ethyl, and methanol extract of Dicranella coarctata contained 5, 38, and 23 compounds respectively. Main component of each extract was thiosulphuric acid, E-15 heptedecenal, and n-hexadecanoic acid.Key words : Dicranaceae, bioactive compounds

Abstract

AbstractPiper betle L. var Nigra commonly known as black betel have a potential as drug raw materials. The leave of black betel  can be used to resist bleeding so as to accelerate the healing of wounds on the skin, sputum, other uses are for epistaxis, as well as for dialysis, asthma, bronchitis, cough, and high blood pressure. Many uses of black betel leaves make it interesting to learn its metabolites compounds by phytochemical screening. So, this research aimed  to isolate and identificate secondary metabolites of Piper betle L. var Nigra. This research used three kind of organic solvents, there were methanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane. Several screening tests were used to isolate and identificate the phytochemical compound, including screening of alkaloids, terpenoids/steroids, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, and saponins. The results showed that methanol extract of black betel leaves contained of alkaloids, terpenoids/steroid, flavonoids, polyphenols and tannins compounds. The ethyl acetate extract of black betel leaves contained of terpenoids/steroid, flavonoids and tannins compounds. The n-hexane extract of black betel leaves contained of terpenoids/steroid. The methanol extract of Piper betle L. var Nigra contained more secondary metabolites than n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts. Keywords : methanol ; Phytochemical screening ; Piper betle L. var Nigra.

Abstract

AbstrakPiper betle L. var Nigra (sirih hitam)  merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman obat yang berpotensi untuk dikembangkan dengan metode kultur jaringan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi zat pengatur tumbuh Indole Acetic Acid (IAA), Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP), Kinetin terhadap senyawa metabolit sekunder  yang terdapat kalus sirih hitam. Eksplan daun dari sirih hitam ditanam pada medium Murashige dan Skoog dengan 4 perlakuan kombinasi (I1,0K1,0; I1,0K1,5; I1B1,5; I0,5B0,5). Kalus dipelihara selama 8 minggu. Simplisia kalus sirih hitam di maserasi menggunakan pelarut metanol dan diidentifikasi menggunakan Gas Chromatography Mass Spectra (GCMS). Berdasarkan analisis GCMS menunjukkan bahwa senyawa metabolit sekunder dengan presentase tertinggi terdapat pada masing- masing perlakuan yaitu senyawa gamma sitosterol (14,88%) pada perlakuan I1,0K1,0 ; senyawa 14-Beta H Pregna (15,94%) pada perlakuan I1,0K1,5 serta senyawa beta-d-glucopyranoside (15,54%) pada perlakuan I0,5B0,5; dan senyawa beta-d-glucopyranoside (5,63%) pada perlakuan I1,0 B1,5. Katakunci: Kalus, Piper betle L. var Nigra, senyawa metabolit sekunder  AbstractPiper betle L. Var Nigra (black betel) is one type of medicinal plant that has the potential to be developed by tissue culture method. This study was aims to determine the effect of variations in growth regulator Indole Acetic Acid (IAA), Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP), and Kinetin on secondary metabolite compounds contained in black betel callus. The explant of black betel’s leaf was cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium with four combination treatments (I1.0K1.0; I1.0K1.5; I1B1.5; I0.5B0.5). The callus was maintained for eight weeks. Simplisia of black betel’s callus was macerated using methanol solvent and identified using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectra (GCMS). GCMS analysis showed that secondary metabolites with the highest percentage in each treatment were gamma sitosterol compound (14.88%) in treatment I1.0K1.0; 14-Beta H Pregna compound (15.94%) in I1.0K1.5 treatment and beta-d-glucopyranoside compound (15.54%) in I0.5B0.5 treatment; and beta-d-glucopyranoside compound (5.63%) in I1.0 B1.5 treatment.Keywords: Callus, Piper betle L.
