Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence continues to increase, including among adolescents. Lack of knowledge and awareness among adolescents about risk factors and prevention of DM can increase the likelihood of developing DM in adulthood. This community service activity aims to optimize the use of leaflets in educating adolescents about diabetes mellitus as an early prevention strategy. The method of implementation includes providing health education using leaflets containing information about DM, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and prevention efforts through the application of a healthy lifestyle. The target of this activity is adolescents living in the Setiaratu Village, Cibeureum District, Tasikmalaya City. This activity was carried out as part of the Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic's IPTEKS community service program for the community (IbM). The activity was carried out in October 2025. The training results showed that adolescents' knowledge scores about diabetes mellitus increased by 30 points compared to before. Statistically, using the Wilcoxon test, the results showed a difference in the average knowledge scores before and after training, with a significance level of ρ = 0.0001 (ρ < 0.05). It is hoped that after receiving this training, adolescents will contribute to increasing public knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus. Thus, the optimization of leaflets has proven effective as a health education tool in increasing adolescents' awareness and knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus as an early prevention effort.

Abstract

The quality of future human resources is closely linked to the current nutritional status of children. Unhealthy and irregular dietary patterns can lead to undernutrition or overnutrition, affecting overall health and brain development. This study aimed to examine the relationship between dietary patterns and the nutritional status of fifth-grade students in Kediri District. A correlational design with random sampling was conducted in eight schools, involving 221 respondents. Dietary patterns were classified as good (66.5%), fair (24.4%), very good (7.2%), and poor (1.8%). Nutritional status was predominantly normal (96.8%), with 3.2% categorized as overweight, and no cases of underweight. Chi-Square analysis indicated a significant association between dietary patterns and nutritional status (p = 0.009 < 0.05), with a low correlation coefficient (r = 0.224). These findings suggest that dietary patterns are not the sole determinant of nutritional status; factors such as health condition, physical activity, illness frequency, and environmental conditions also contribute. It is recommended to promote healthy eating habits among students and parents, ensure food hygiene in schools, and provide nutritious food options. Future research should consider nutritional education interventions to assess their impact on students’ dietary patterns and nutritional status.

Abstract

This research focused on the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) optimization of home-scale biodigester-composter machines. The aims to determine feasibility from technical-economic aspects. The technique was to design the machine's mechanical process, physical, and constituent components. There are two methods conducted on this research, VDI 2222 to optimize and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess the optimal quality results of the machine design based on simulation analysis. This research ended with making a physical prototype of a home-scale biodigester-composter machine using the optimal design, then validating it with a working test of the machine. The results of the VDI 2222 method show an optimal design concept through the structure of the working mechanism. All its constituent components match with the ten target specifications and the machine manufacturing cost of IDR 2,393,000, as well as the assembly chart design for each constituent component. These results are also evaluated using the FEA method. The resistance value of the frame system to maximum Von Mises Stress is obtained at 128.75 MPa with a minimum value of 6.93e-04 MPa. It is concluded to be acceptable at withstanding normal and shear stresses effectively with a relatively small displacement value of 0 to 0.47 mm. The equivalent strain value results are 3.89e-09 ul to 5.83e-04 ul and safety factor value results are 1.93 to 15 ul. It can be concluded that the frame system design concept is safe.

Abstract

Saraba Keke is a traditional Manadonese beverage, but its nutritional and functional properties are not well-documented. This study aimed to characterize the physicochemical properties and antioxidant potential of a specific powdered variant of Saraba Keke Manado, produced by a local producer who adheres to traditional formulation methods to ensure authenticity. The study employed a descriptive analytical design. Physicochemical analysis included proximate analysis (moisture, ash, fat, protein, and carbohydrates by difference) and qualitative and quantitative phytochemical screening. Proximate analysis revealed a composition of moisture (2.92%), ash (1.58%), fat (5.42%), protein (7.63%), and a high carbohydrate content (82.45%), likely stemming from the complex spice base and traditional sweeteners used in the recipe. Qualitative screening showed that alkaloids were strongly present (+++), while flavonoids, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids, and phenolics were detected at a lower level (+). Quantitative analysis showed mean concentrations of tannins (2.63 mg/g), flavonoids (12.92 mg/g), and total phenolics (6.23 mg/g). The DPPH assay demonstrated very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 35.01 ppm, which is explicitly classified as very strong because it is below the 50 ppm threshold. While these findings reflect the profile of the specific sample analyzed, they provide a scientific baseline for future standardization. Saraba Keke Manado possesses a notable nutritional profile rich in bioactive phytochemicals, particularly flavonoids and phenolics, supporting its potential as a functional health beverage.
