Abstract

This study aims to determine the vegetative growth of Dendrobium sp orchids at various concentrations of liquid organic fertilizer and fertilizer intensity. This research was designed with a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial pattern. The first factor is the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer consisting of three levels, namely the concentration of 5 ml / liter (A1), 10 ml / liter (A2), 15 ml / liter (A3), and the second factor is the intensity of fertilization consisting of 1 time / week ( B1), 2 times / week (B2), 3 times / week (B3). The results showed that the interaction between the concentration of liquid organic fertilizer and fertilizer intensity significantly affected the time parameters of buds, shoot height, and number of leaves. The 10 ml / liter concentration treatment with fertilizer intensity 3 times / week (A2B3) gave the fastest shoot growth of 7.93 weeks and had the highest yield on Dendrobium sp orchid shoot height at 12 weeks after planting which was 3.5 cm and the amount Dendrobium sp orchid leaves at the end of the observation were 4.75 strands.

Abstract

The microorganisms found in the forest soil are one of the factors that influence the formation of forest soil. In mountain tropical forests slow down soil formation processes as evapotranspiration decreases, chemical reactions are slower and densities of fungi and soil bacteria are fewer, whereas in lowland forests are rich in vegetation species, as well as hot and humid climate conditions. The purpose of this research is to know the population of fungi and bacteria of forest soil of mountains and lowland forest. The study was conducted from December 2017 to February 2018. This research started from field survey, determination of sampling point. Soil sampling was done on a plot with size 25 m × 25 m with a soil depth of 0-10 cm and composite soil sampling. This research uses descriptive analysis method. The results showed that the population of fungi and bacteria are different between the mountain forest (Nokilalaki) and lowland forest (Kamarora). The lowland forest soil higher of fungi (614 × 103 CFU g-1) and bacteria population (43.6 × 106 CFU g-1) then the mountain forest soil of fungi (188.8 × 103 CFU g-1) and bacteria population (7.36 × 106 CFU g-1).

Abstract

Forest is the habitat of a wide range of plant species in which these species have different sizes and ages of seedling at transplanting. In order to increase the species richness through natural regeneration, it is important to carry out research related to this topic. In the present study, the seedlings of Malapoga (Toona ciliata M. Roem) from its natural population are investigated. It primarily aims to determine the effect of storage time of the seedlings of Malapoga (Toona ciliata M. Roem) to obtain optimal seedling growth. It was conducted in June – August 2016, at the nursery of BPDAS PALU-POSO, Universitas Tadulako, Palu, Central Sulawesi. The research uses a completely randomized design (CRD) in which there are four treatments, namely: M0 = Control, M1 = 1-day storage, M2 = 2-days storage, M3 = 3-days storage. Of the four treatments, five replications were conducted hence there were a total to 20 samples. The parameters were height, stem diameter and number of leaves. The honestly significant difference (HSD) test was carried out since the analysis of variance showed a significant difference among the treatments. The results indicate that the 3-days of storage (M3) has a significant positive effect on the seedling growth, with an average plant height of 6.94 cm, stem diameter of 0.3 mm, and eight leaves are visible. It contrasts to the control in which it experiences slow growth.

Abstract

Dendrobium orchid has great potential to be developed. The problem faced in its development is the decrease of orchid productivity per square meter of cultivation area. Consequently, the less availability of orchid either in quality and quantity. Whereas, there are growth regulator substances might be used to fulfill the hormone needs of orchid to obtain optimal growth. The main constraint is how the growth regulator substance in a certain amount affected the dendrobium archid growth. The research objective is to assess the growth response of stem cuttings of Dendrobium secundum orchid in combination of concentration and application intensity of growth regulator. This research was conducted for 3 months from October to January 2018, at Orchid Green House of the Permanent Nursery of BPDAS Palu Poso, Tadulako University. The results of study showed that the best treatment was combination of NAA (1 ml) + BAP (1 ml)/liter of water applied once a week (P1), which gave the fastest shoot growth of 16.25 days and had the highest growth on the shoot height of 3.5 cm and on the leave number of 4 sheets at the age of 12 weeks after planting.

Abstract

Primary Forest and Imperata cylindrica grasslands are two different ecosystems that meet in the same area in Lore Lindu National Park. Climatic conditions such as rainfall are also the same. The difference in vegetation between the two ecosystems is interesting to be investigated by comparing the physical properties of the two ecosystems. This study aims to determine the physical properties of soils in the Primary forest and Padeha grasslands in the Lore Lindu National Park Area. This research was conducted from January to March 2017, located in the Lore Lindu National Park, Sedoa Village, Lore Utara District, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi. This research was started from a field survey, determining the location of sampling, soil sampling, analysis of soil samples in the Laboratory. Determination of the location is done intentionally (purposive sampling) by considering the slope conditions namely, valley back and hill. Soil sampling was carried out at two depths namely 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm. Soil in primary forest has physical properties as follows: clay soil texture, medium granular and coarse granular soil structure, high bulk density 1.2 gr / cm3 and very high 1.5 gr / cm3, good soil porosity 54.5% and less good 43.6%, moderate soil permeability 5.12 cm / hour and 0.57 cm / hour rather slowly, and the color of the soil is dark yellowish, yellowish brown, strong brown. Soil in Padeha grasslands has the following physical properties: clay soil texture, rough granular soil structure and medium granular soil, high bulk density 1.3 gr / cm3 and very high 1.4 gr / cm3, good porosity 50.3% and bad 35 , 9%, moderate permeability 2.2 cm / hour and rather slow 1.46 cm / hour, and the color of the soil is strong brown, brown, and black.

Abstract

The area of pine stands 25 year old are 500 ha grow at advacent of grassland. The pine stands and grassland have different effect on chemical properties of soil. The objective of tree study are to determine the soil chemical propertie of pine stand and grassland. The research was conducted from November 2017 to January 2018, located at pine and grassland area of Watutau Village, Lore Peore Sub-district, Poso District, Central Sulawesi. Analysis of chemical properties of soil samples including pH, C-organic, N-total, P-available, K-total and CEC was conducted at the Soil Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University. The results showed that pine stands had soil chemical conditions at a depth of 0-30 cm lower in (C-organic, P-available, K-total, and CEC) but higher in pH and N-total than on grassland areas. The soil chemical conditions in pine stands consist of pH 4.90 acid, C-organic 0.55% very low, N-total 0.09% very low, P-available 5.26 mg / 100g very low, K-total 11 , 81 mg / 100g low, CEC 4.29 cmol (+) kg-1 is very low. While soil chemical conditions on grassland area consist of pH 4.79 acid, C-organic 1.61% low, N-total 0.08% very low, P-available 9.24 mg / 100g very low, K-total 19.45 mg / 100g average, CEC 4.76 cmol (+) kg-1 is very low.
