Abstract

The grey-eel catfish is a highly valued fish species in some parts of Indonesia. The fish is common in brackish water of estuaries, marine and freshwater habitat. They are not are not usually catched in commercial scale because of the limited population in its habitat. Although the status is not evaluated, the fish is predicted facing extinction in several countries. We conducted a study to examine the biological information and reproductive biology of the fish in Kota Langsa to gather information that can be utilize to evaluate reproductive status of the fish in several habitats. Parameters tested in the study includes sex ratio, length-weight relationships, candition factor, size at first maturity fecundity and reproductive potential of the fish. Research results provide information that the fish follows negative allometric model with constant condition factor throughout the study. The catches were relatively young fish which have not reached maturity stage. Fishes in the class sized at 510-550 mm provide the largest contribution to total eggs production. To ensure sustainability of the fish it is advised that the fish must catched at size larger than 550 mm.

Abstract

Solid organic waste (PSW) in shrimp ponds contains relatively high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus and can endanger the ecological balance of the waters. This study evaluates the ability of sea cucumber Holothuria scabra to remove nitrogen and phosphorus loads from shrimp pond sediment waste in water and sediment. Sea cucumbers were reared for 40 days with a density of 20 individuals/m2 (average body weight 2.65±0.09 g) and a double-bottom recirculation system. Five levels of PSW accumulation were inserted into the aquarium substrate and were the sole source of nutrition for sea cucumbers without additional feeding: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% (with three replications). The results showed that increasing the PSW content in the aquarium research substrate significantly increased the substrate's TOC, TN, and TP content and increased the concentrations of TOM, DOC, NH3, NO2, and PO4 in the water column. The activity of sea cucumbers in utilizing PSW nutrients in all treatments up to a PSW level of 50% significantly reduced TOC, TN, and TP in sediments. This activity also substantially removes the concentration of TOM, DOC, NH3, NO2, and PO4 in the water. It is estimated that every kilogram of H. scabra can remove up to 12.65-12.73 g of nitrogen/day and 2.57-2.60 g of phosphorus/day contained in the solid organic waste of shrimp ponds. Therefore, this study concluded that H. scabra has great potential to be used as integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) species, especially to remove nitrogen and phosphorus loads from shrimp pond sediment waste in waters.

Abstract

Environmental issues related to aquaculture have recently surfaced, especially related to the use of natural resources such as water and land use including the price of feed which is increasingly expensive, biofloc technology is able to answer these problems by using less water, land, and commercial feed compared to conventional methods. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and take strategic steps to utilize biofloc technology in the snakehead fry nursery business. Data and information were collected through interviews using questionnaires prepared using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach, strength weakness opportunities threat (SWOT) analysis, and business analysis was conducted to determine the potential for business development. This study was conducted using two types of rearing containers: round tarpaulin tubs with a diameter of 3 m and plastic containers. The business of rearing snakehead fry using the biofloc method both in plastic containers and in round tarpaulin tanks in one cycle shows inefficient results (<1). The criteria of yield, cost, growth, feed and water are the criteria used as the basis for assessing the effective and efficient business of snakehead fry rearing with a higher alternative weight of the biofloc method (0,629) when compared to conventional (0,371). Through SWOT analysis, the use of less feed and water is the strength of the biofloc method in the cork fish seed breeding business.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the first private Islamic schools in Arcamanik sub-district was the Luqmanul Hakim Integrated Islamic School (SIT). This school, established in 1996, has been the choice of parents for almost thirty years. Even the people around this school don't know much information. As many as 60.5% of residents in Arcamanik District, Bandung City, do not know the current logo and location of the school. Competitor Schools that have better visual identities have different situations. The ultimate goal of this design is to explain the visualization results of the redesign of the school's visual identity. This compounding collects qualitative data through interviews, questionnaires and literature studies. To support the findings, questionnaires and observations in the field were used to support the data. However, for data analysis, STP (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning) strategies and other strategies are used. From the results of this design, it shows that 57.1% of the academic community at SIT Luqmanul Hakim are satisfied with the results. But a new visual identity approach still has to be made. Keywords: integrated Islamic school, school visual identity, redesign visual identity

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim to evaluate the performance of Batak fish (Tor soro) blood glucose in response to stocking density stress. Fish with an average of 2.21 g with a weight of 27 individuals were given stocking density stress by inserting them into 9 cylindrical containers of 200.96 cm2 and 3 L volume of peat water with stocking differently for 72 hours. These stocking density treatments consisted of A (2 fishes/0.02 m2), B (3 fishes/0.02 m2), C (4 fishes/0.02 m2) and E (5 fishes/0.02 m2) with three repetitions. Blood glucose was collected from 1 fish per container during 72 hours. The preliminary test was conducted to determine the oxygen demand of fish through the oxygen consumption level test, in which the oxygen demand from the fish was calculated in accordance to the density used. The average value of blood glucose levels of Batak fish that were given the stress of stocking density 2 fishes/0.02 m2, 3 fishes/0.02 m2, 4 fishes/0.02 m2, and 5 fishes/0.02 m2 tend to be low, as much as 53 mg/dL, 52.67 mg/dL, 49.33 mg/dL and 39.63 mg/dL respectively. The response of blood glucose to stocking density stress resulted in stocking recommendations for culture Batak fish ranging from 100-250 fish/m2 with 2,21-3,12 fish/ gram.
