Abstract

This study aims to examine the results of studies on didactic design in mathematics education as a contribution to the advancement of study concerning didactical design research. 1413 research articles on didactic design in mathematics education indexed in Scopus over the past 50 years, from 1973 to 2024, were collected and analyzed using bibliometric analysis. The results show increased studies related to didactic design in mathematics education. Based on the bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and RStudio, there was a significant increase in publication between 2016 and 2022 but a decrease in 2023. The most frequently appearing keywords in the VOSviewer and RStudio search are “mathematics education," “teaching," and “mathematics." However, a relationship exists between didactic design and elementary education, secondary school, and higher education. The correlation on these labels is small, presenting opportunities for research on didactic design. From the visualization using VOSviewer and RStudio, research related to didactic design in algebra, calculus, and geometry has not been done much, and it is very urgent to do so because the potential research on didactic design in these areas is up-and- coming.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how pre-service mathematics teachers conduct prospective analyses comprehensively. A qualitative research method with a case study design was used. The participant was Mrs N, a pre-service mathematics teacher who conducted research using DDR methodology in a grade 9 junior high school in Sindang, Majalengka, involving 48 students. Data were collected by analyzing empirical evidence from Mrs. N's prospective analysis process by uncovering the various stages of a prospective analysis. An iterative approach was used to analyze the data by refining the research questions through discussions and regular meetings with Mrs. N. The process ensured adaptability to new insights and understandings from the empirical data. Our findings reveal that the teacher draws upon fundamental philosophical principles from didactical design research, including hermeneutics, phenomenology, and ethnomethodology. By embracing these approaches, the teacher gains valuable insights into conducting research within an interpretive paradigm, allowing for a deeper exploration of the meaning of concepts, the purpose of learning, and the cultural influences that shape the educational process. Additionally, our study sheds light on the emergence of transpositional didactics theory as the prospective teacher delves into understanding the meaning of the geometrics transformation concept.

Abstract

Mathematics cannot be separated from everyday life. The use of mathematical concepts in cultural activities can be studied through the ethnomathematics program. However, ethnomathematics research may not be able to provide noticeable results, especially in constructing mathematical modelling for pedagogical purposes. Ethnomodelling later became one of the concepts introduced as an approach in ethnomathematics research. Based on the cultural aspect, the ability to predict a good day in farming is included in the holistic concept of culture because it belongs to the knowledge system and belief system (religion) in the universal element of culture. The research was conducted using an ethnomethodological approach and a realist ethnographic design. Based on this, this research was conducted to describe the ability of the Cigugur indigenous people in Kuningan Regency to predict what days are considered good to start farming activities. Data were collected by using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis techniques are carried out in stages through content analysis, triangulation, and pattern search. Based on the study of ethnomathematics, research that is able to describe the mathematical ideas and practices of the indigenous Cigugur community can be classified into several fundamental mathematical dimensions including counting, finding, measuring, designing, and explaining. The use of the ethnomodelling approach in research can describe several mathematical concepts used by the concepts of numbers, sets, relations, congruence, modulo, and mathematical modelling.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain a comprehensive picture of the hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) that should be developed based on students' learning trajectory (LT) in learning fraction division arithmetic operations in grade V elementary school. The HLT was developed based on the analysis of the Learning Implementation Plan document made by the teacher by considering the students' learning trajectory on the material of fraction division arithmetic operation, including the learning carried out by the teacher in the classroom, examining aspects of learning obstacles that occur in the learning process, and examining what didactical situations will be built, predicting student responses that may occur to the situation created, and determining didactical and pedagogical anticipation of these responses. The HLT in this study started with the context of generating the idea of number division, learning the concept of number division such as natural numbers divided by natural numbers, and recalling the concept of fractions and the concept of division of fractions. The learning objective designed in the HLT is that students can solve problems with at least two ways related to division of fractions.

Abstract

Abstract

The conception of functions, defined as the relationship between magnitudes or sets of ordered pairs, varies among students depending on the contextualization of the concept within the curriculum, notably in school textbooks. This investigation endeavors to scrutinize the approach taken by Indonesian textbooks in introducing the function concept at the lower secondary school level. An eighth-grade mathematics textbook was scrutinized utilizing praxeology, the fundamental construct of the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic. The analytical process unfolded in three main phases: examination of the praxis block, analysis of the logos block, and evaluation of the textbook's praxeological structure in collaboration with experts and educators. The examination revealed that the Indonesian textbook organizes functions into three distinct local praxeological frameworks: functions as sets, bijective functions, and functions as relationships between magnitudes. The praxis primarily emphasizes tasks and techniques for functions formulated by sets, shaping the landscape of function learning in Indonesia. Consequently, a notable epistemological gap within logos stems from the disparity between two conceptions of functions: functions as sets and analytical expressions. These findings underscore the necessity for an alternative praxeological arrangement of functions, mainly to bridge the divide between the set-theoretical definition and the analytical expression of a function.
