Abstract

Preparing qualified teacher candidates also helps to create a sustainable education system, therefore, the preparation of teacher candidates should be a priority for any education system that wants to achieve success and sustainability. Some research on prospective mathematics teachers has developed rapidly. This study aims to investigate: 1) what is the performance analysis of publication and citation-related metrics and their trends from pre-service teacher mathematics studies, and 2) what is the science mapping and network analysis of citation analysis, authorship partner analysis, and word partner analysis from pre-service teacher mathematics studies. A research method is a bibliometric approach using the Scopus database with two search keywords namely "pre-service teacher" and "mathematics concepts". A total of 181 documents related to the two keywords were distributed in the range of 2017-2022. Data analysis was done by performance analysis, science mapping, and network analysis using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software. The results showed that publications related to the study of "pre-service teacher mathematics" with 337 citations from 118 documents. Research on "pre-service teacher" and "mathematics concepts" has grown rapidly in the last five years, Visualization Network co-authorship emergence is Suryadi from Indonesia. While the occurrence of keywords (co-occurrence) often appears among others teacher knowledge, concept map, professional development, stem education, and content mathematics. but there is still a gap for us to make new research as a development of previous research in the development of quality pre-service mathematics teachers.

Abstract

The main procedure that students need to master in the problem-solving process is understanding the problem before proceeding to the next steps. This research aims to investigate students' difficulties and the factors causing these difficulties in understanding the problem. This research is qualitative in nature and is based on the philosophy of phenomenology. The research was conducted in an eighth-grade class at one of the Junior High Schools in Bandung, consisting of 28 students. Data collection techniques included tests, interviews, and think-aloud methods. The data collection instruments used were tests and interview guides. The tests used in this research had been previously validated for content, construct, and face validity by mathematics education experts. Data analysis in qualitative research involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this research indicate that the difficulties faced by students in understanding the problem include difficulties in comprehending language, difficulties in grasping both explicit and implicit meanings, difficulties in identifying the necessary information, and difficulties in connecting meanings. The main factors causing students' difficulties in understanding the problem are a lack of careful reading skills and a lack of understanding of the concepts held by students.

Abstract

The objective of this descriptive qualitative study is to describe students' proportional reasoning ability in solving each type of proportional problem, namely missing-value problem, numerical comparison problem, and qualitative comparison problem. A non-proportional problem was also included in this study to assess students' ability in one of the indicators used to measure proportional reasoning ability. The instrument used in this study consists of mathematical word problems on the proportion concept. The participants involved nine eighth-grade students, who were chosen from a total of 49 eighth-grade students at a school in Bandung City. These students were selected using a technique known as purposive sampling, by looking at the answers of students who best represent the answers of other students. The gathered data were analyzed using content analysis and narrative analysis techniques. According to the results, students appeared to have difficulty solving proportional problems of all types using proportional reasoning. Students are still struggling with distinguishing between proportional and non-proportional situations, as well as direct and inverse proportions. Furthermore, students often encounter difficulties when attempting to solve numerical comparison and qualitative comparison problems. This might be a consequence of students' lack of experience in solving these types of problems. Another tendency is the use of the cross-multiplication algorithm in solving missing-value problems without knowing the purpose of using the algorithm.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability of mathematical representation on cube and cuboid topic in one of the junior high schools in Bandung. The research design used to achieve the objectives of this study is a case study design that is carried out to investigate students' mathematical representation skills. Data was collected from ten grade IX junior high school students through written tests in the form of descriptions and interviews. Based on the results of the data analysis described above, it can be concluded that the mathematical representation ability of grade IX students at one of the State Junior High Schools in Bandung still has many errors. This is because almost all students have not been able to solve the problems given. Two indicators used in this study, namely visual representation and representation of equations or mathematical expressions, there are still many students who solve mathematical problems that are not completed perfectly and some students are still not thorough and impetuous to find solutions to problems so that students are wrong in providing the final result.

Abstract

The essential mathematical ability related to geometric perception is spatial ability. Through this ability, one can develop geometric reasoning abilities in everyday life. In some literature, spatial ability is closely related to various applied fields in life. One way to develop and hone this ability is through the art of origami paper folding. In several studies, it has been found that origami can enhance students' spatial abilities at various educational levels. Origami is the art of folding paper that is utilized for teaching basic geometric shapes through folds that form simple structures, which can serve as a bridge for students to understand how the objects they fold are formed. This origami folding can be used to train and enhance the spatial abilities of students from various educational levels. Teaching origami can foster and develop students' enthusiasm in learning mathematics, especially geometry. Origami has a positive correlation with mathematics learning outcomes in the classroom, particularly regarding geometry topics.
