Abstract

Digital transformation has triggered moral disruption, the fragmentation of religious authority, and the threat of misinformation within Islamic Education. This study aims to formulate a new paradigm through the reconstruction of an adaptive Islamic Education epistemology in the digital age. Employing a descriptive-qualitative literature review, this study adopts a multidisciplinary approach that integrates aspects of technology, sociology and the philosophy of religion. The findings reveal that the epistemological reconstruction of Islamic Education must synergise revelation, reason and analytical data through the strengthening of the tabayyun (verification) framework in the digital era, alongside the development of teacher competencies based on twenty-first-century skills. The implications of this study underscore the urgency of reformulating the Islamic Education curriculum so that it focuses not merely on the transfer of knowledge or the enhancement of students’ cognitive abilities, but is equally capable of preserving the authenticity of spiritual values and character. This model serves as a strategic reference for Islamic educational institutions in nurturing a generation that is technologically proficient whilst possessing profound moral character amidst the tide of global disruption.

Abstract

This article analyzes the genealogy of Islamic Education institutions in Indonesia to examine their historical dynamics and transformation issues within political, social, and educational contexts. The study is motivated by a gap in the existing literature, which tends to be descriptive and insufficiently addresses power relations in the institutionalization process of Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative research design using a content analysis approach, combined with historical-critical analysis and social hermeneutics. The data sources include historical records, policy documents, and academic literature related to the development of Islamic education institutions from the pre-colonial period to the contemporary era. The findings indicate that the institutionalization of Islamic education has unfolded in a non-linear and dialectical process between Islamic educational traditions (ribath, halaqah, and pesantren) and state intervention through madrasah formation and integration into the formal education system. This process is shaped by power relations among religious authorities, the state, and global modernization forces. The study reveals an epistemological tension in the institutionalization of Islamic education, particularly between the authenticity of Islamic values, state agendas, and market-driven educational demands. This study emphasizes the need for a genealogical reconstruction to reformulate the direction of Islamic education development in Indonesia in a more critical, contextual, and adaptive manner toward contemporary social changes.

Abstract

The development of leadership in Islamic education is a strategic issue that continues to evolve in line with the dynamic needs of Islamic educational institutions in the contemporary era. The challenges of globalization, technological advancement, and shifts in socio-cultural values require Islamic educational institutions to have leaders who are not only technically and managerially competent, but also morally and spiritually strong. This article aims to comprehensively and conceptually examine how leadership can be developed in the context of Islamic education through the integration of prophetic, transformational, and managerial values. This study uses an in-depth literature review approach by analyzing various recent studies on leadership in Islamic educational institutions, including schools, madrasahs, and pesantrens. The results show that the development of leadership in Islamic education must be grounded in the values of the Quran and Sunnah, while also accommodating the demands of 21st-century skills. The most relevant leadership model is transformational-prophetic leadership that is able to harmoniously integrate spiritual, intellectual, and managerial dimensions. The conclusion of this study affirms that effective Islamic education leaders are those who are able to holistically develop their own competencies, empower human resources, create an organizational culture based on Islamic values, and respond wisely to the changing times.

Abstract

The current crisis in the relevance of Islamic religious education is no longer solely related to the issue of student morality, but also concerns the curriculum's ability to respond to social change, scientific developments, and the transformation of digital technology. This article aims to analyze the urgency of research-based reformulation of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum as a new paradigm for Islamic education that is more reflective, critical, and adaptive. The research uses a qualitative approach with a critical literature study design. The results show that the conventional PAI curriculum is still predominantly normative-doctrinal in nature and has not fully developed an inquiry-based academic culture. Research-based curriculum reformulation allows for the simultaneous integration of revelation, rationality, social experience, and educational technology. Teachers and lecturers are no longer positioned as transmitters of knowledge, but as intellectual facilitators and producers of Islamic educational knowledge. This article emphasizes that research-based transformation of the PAI curriculum is a strategic necessity in building contextual, humanistic, and future-oriented Islamic education.

Abstract

As social media becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, limited empirical research has examined its role in developing religious digital literacy and communication skills among prospective Islamic teachers. This study examines the impact of the 30HariBersuara project, a social media–based video learning innovation, on the religious digital literacy and public speaking competencies of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) students. The study employed a quantitative one-group posttest design with a retrospective pretest involving 97 matched student responses. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire measuring five dimensions: self-confidence and public speaking, literacy and insight, creativity and content production, readiness for the teaching profession, and self-development. The findings revealed an increase in the overall mean score from 3.31 (moderate) to 4.16 (high), representing a gain score of 0.85. The greatest improvement was observed in the literacy and insight dimension (0.99), followed by self-confidence and public speaking (0.89). These findings suggest that social media–based video learning can effectively strengthen students' religious digital literacy and communication competencies while preparing them for their future roles as Islamic educators in the digital era.

Abstract

Islamic education occupies a strategic position within the Indonesian national education system. Various government regulations, including Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System and Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Pesantren, have strengthened the legal foundation for the development of Islamic educational institutions. The effectiveness of these policies, however, is highly dependent on the quality of leadership within Islamic educational organizations. This study aims to analyze the role of leadership in formulating Islamic education policies, examine the relationship between government regulations and leadership in Islamic educational institutions, and explore the implications of national education policies for the management of Islamic educational organizations. The study employed a qualitative approach through library research by examining books, scientific articles, laws, and relevant policy documents. Data were analyzed using descriptive analytical techniques to identify patterns, relationships, and implications of policy implementation. The findings indicate that Islamic leadership characterized by vision, adaptability, consultation (shura), justice, and accountability plays a central role in policy formulation and implementation. Government regulations have encouraged institutional transformation toward professionalism, accountability, and quality assurance. At the same time, challenges emerge in the form of bureaucratization, regulatory dualism, and the potential erosion of Islamic institutional identity. Effective leadership serves as a bridge between national policy demands and the preservation of Islamic educational values. Therefore, the success of Islamic education policies depends largely on leadership capable of integrating modern management principles with Islamic values in a balanced and sustainable manner.
