Abstract

Video games are often viewed as part of tertiary activities in human life. As a tertiary activity, video games are then considered to have no function in carrying out meaningful activities in society, including social criticism activities. This article then aims to explain that video games can conceptually and practically be used as a tool for social policy criticism. This article was written using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by a data collection process through literature study. From the results of the study, it is clear that video games are capable of producing and reproducing culture and ideology in people's minds through participatory elements so that they can be created and used as a tool for social criticism of a policy. Conceptually, video games become cultural agents that have their own power in terms of generating open meaning from them. Practically, the form and function of video games as a tool for social criticism has led to the presence of video games as an alternative way of conveying criticism creatively.

Abstract

This research explores the intricate phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing within the realm of bilingual aphasia patients who converse in both Sundanese and Indonesian. This research is essential to understanding the code-switching and code-mixing phenomenon to improve rehabilitation and effective communication for these patients. Employing a descriptive-qualitative methodology, this study aims to shed light on the language dynamics exhibited by these individuals. To this end, data were meticulously gathered through participant observation in everyday communication, supplemented by in-depth interviews conducted with family members and language therapists. The findings from meticulous data analysis illuminate that aphasia patients fluently alternate between Sundanese and Indonesian, frequently engaging in code-switching and code-mixing when grappling with linguistic expression or comprehension difficulties. Furthermore, this language phenomenon manifests in the patients' inclination toward employing shorter and simpler sentence structures. Consequently, these results underscore the importance of accounting for language selection, code-switching, and code-mixing within the language therapy process for Sundanese-Indonesian bilingual aphasia patients. Language therapists are urged to comprehend and adapt to the patients' flexible language utilization while devising tailored therapeutic strategies to enhance their linguistic proficiency. Moreover, this research calls for future investigations to explore this captivating phenomenon across diverse cohorts of bilingual aphasia patients, thus broadening our understanding of the intricacies involved.

Abstract

Instilling religious values ??is a fundamental aspect of character education in elementary schools. This article discusses the implementation of the habit of reading Sholawat Busyro which is carried out after the morning assembly as an effort to foster the religious character of students at MII Banyurip Ageng 02 Pekalongan City. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the habit of reading Sholawat Busyro is carried out routinely, spontaneously, and through exemplary behavior, and is followed by all students and teachers every morning. The implementation of this activity follows the steps: student training and mentoring, giving appreciation, strengthening morals through the knowing-feeling-doing approach, and avoiding criticism. This activity forms students' religious character such as humility, politeness, discipline in worship, and love for the Prophet. Supporting factors for this habit include teacher assertiveness, involvement of all students, a safe environment, and implementation of the habit as a mandatory madrasah activity. The inhibiting factors include students' inability to memorize, laziness in reciting Sholawat Busyro, limited time, and incorrect pronunciation. The results of this study recommend the habituation of sholawat as an effective strategy to form students' religious character comprehensively and applicatively in elementary education environments.

Abstract

This study explores the current condition of children's literacy in Indonesia focusing on several critical issues including the impact of inequality in literacy access, the factors influencing the quality of teaching languages, exploring the development of local literacy cultures and reading preferences in order to create a more inclusive literacy program, and the evaluation of current literacy policies. A policy analysis and document/library analysis method with qualitative research approach were used to gather data from documentation studies of literacy policies, reports on implementation and current literatures related to children's literacy in Indonesia. The data analysis technique of this research applied thematic analysis to review, identify, and analyze the data. The results showed that Indonesia still experiences a protracted learning crisis, particularly in relation to children's literacy. Factors like low literacy activities, Covid-19 pandemic and the results of national assessments indicate a serious challenge regarding the performance of children's literacy. Limited children's reading interest and availability of suitable book collections also pose a challenge to overcome. The study proposes several steps to improve children's literacy in Indonesia, including increasing accessibility and variety of book collections, enhancing collaboration between relevant authorities, harmonising with the global literacy standards, widening access to books, particularly in rural communities, involving the local community and establishing corporate partnerships with private sectors. The study hopefully provides a meaningful contribution to developing solutions to Indonesia's children's literacy challenges and strategies to improve children's literacy.

Abstract

This study examines how language and communication strategies can influence the perception and response of Gen-Millennials and Gen-Z towards climate change issues in Indonesia. Using a quantitative survey method, data were collected from 127 respondents consisting of 77 Gen-Z and 50 Gen-Millennials, and presented concisely and structured through frequency tables and illustrative diagrams. The data analysis process was carried out through several stages, namely descriptive analysis, inferential analysis, and then interpreting the findings. The findings show that the intensity of social media use from Gen-Millennials is more often aimed at seeking information than Gen-Z which is only for entertainment, the result is that Gen-M interacts more often with climate change issues than Gen-Z, although both still consider it important. Furthermore, persuasive technical terms have the potential to increase the motivation of both generations to be directly involved in climate change action. This study highlights the need for targeted communication strategies to increase public awareness and engagement on climate change issues. These findings enrich approaches to language teaching and intercultural training, particularly in the context of environmental education, broaden understanding of intergenerational communication styles in environmental advocacy, and provide practical insights for developing impactful campaigns tailored to generational preferences, thereby contributing to the success of climate advocacy efforts in Indonesia.

The writing of this article uses a descriptive qualitative method with based on data mining through library research/literature studies from several literature sources. Results. It is clear that in the old order there were two types of democracy, namely liberal and guided democracy. In liberal democracy, people's freedom to participate in politics or political individualism is highly upheld. On the other hand, in a guided democracy, the people have political limitations because power is very centralized in the hands of a president. Conclusion. These forms of democracy must place the voice of the people, the interests of the people above all else so that in managing the country, attention to the people becomes the main thing.
