Abstract

This study delves into the dynamics of agricultural health in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Indonesia, spanning the years 2017 to 2022. By integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques with NDVI-based remote sensing using Landsat imagery from the USGS, our research aims to comprehend the spatio-temporal patterns and transformations in agricultural land health over the study period. The primary objectives encompass understanding these alterations and assessing how urbanization and land utilization impact the well-being of agricultural lands in Sleman Regency. The analytical framework incorporates geospatial processing using QGIS to classify and visualize vegetation health changes, enabling spatially explicit interpretation of land degradation trends. Throughout the 2017–2022 analysis period, a concerning and consistent decline in healthy agricultural lands was observed. By 2022, only 4581.56 hectares of agricultural land remained in a healthy state, constituting a mere 0.011% of the total region, while the expanse of unhealthy land surged from 1109.48 hectares in 2017 to 1160.8 hectares in 2022. This shift underscores a distressing deterioration in the health of agricultural plants due to diminished agricultural land. The geospatial analysis reveals a notable encroachment pattern from urban expansion zones into previously fertile areas, highlighting the urgency for integrated spatial planning. To counter this trend, proactive protection and effective regulation of designated agricultural zones by the Sleman Regency Government are imperative to ensure sustainable cultivation of essential food crops within the region and maintain the overall well-being of the agricultural landscape. The study contributes to advancing GIS-based land monitoring approaches and offers actionable insights for sustainable land use policy formulation in rapidly urbanizing regions. Strengthening policies for sustainable urban development in harmony with agricultural interests is pivotal to securing prosperous and balanced socio-economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the catalytic performance of kaolinite by converting it into kaolinite nanotubes and utilizing it as a support for sulfuric acid catalysts. Analysis using XRD and TEM revealed that the kaolinite crystal phase remained stable after being modified with sulfuric acid, while kaolinite nanotubes underwent little structural change. In addition, characterization via FTIR and XRF confirmed the presence of sulfate ions in kaolinite nanotubes and kaolinite after combination with sulfuric acid. Catalytic test on transesterification of used cooking oil under uniform conditions (catalyst 3% w/v, oil to methanol ratio 1:6, temperature 90 °C, and stirring speed 700 rpm) showed that sulfuric acid supported by kaolinite nanotubes gave the best performance, producing methyl ester of 65.01%. These findings indicate that converting kaolinite into nanotubes significantly improves its performance as a catalyst support. Practically, this increase in catalytic activity contributes to the efficiency of used cooking oil-based biodiesel production, which can reduce dependence on virgin vegetable oil raw materials and support waste oil recycling efforts. In addition, the use of cheap and easily available kaolinite-based catalysts can reduce the cost of biodiesel production, making it more competitive as an environmentally friendly fuel.

Abstract

In the current educational landscape, critical thinking is an essential skill that significantly aids students in addressing problems effectively. This skill encompasses various aspects such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students in Sungai Penuh City, with a specific focus on SMPN 8 and SMPN 11. A total of 60 students from both schools participated in this study, which centered around science education (IPA). A descriptive quantitative method was used, with data collected through essay-based assessments designed around critical thinking indicators. The research results revealed that students from SMPN 8 demonstrated superior critical thinking skills compared to their peers at SMPN 11, with an average achievement score of 46.07% (moderate category) at SMPN 8 and 28.13% (low category) at SMPN 11. The main weaknesses identified were in the areas of analysis and inference, particularly at SMPN 11, where most indicators were classified as low. These findings underscore the challenges present in the learning process, including teaching methods, student motivation, and the learning environment. Therefore, more effective teaching strategies are needed to enhance students' critical thinking abilities, particularly in science education.

Abstract

In the context of urban and regional planning, this study aims to produce land classification products covering 230 paths/rows throughout Indonesia, which can serve as an important tool in supporting planning and research projects. The research method used combines remote sensing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with the utilization of spectroscopy through QGIS software with Dzetsaka plugins (semi-automatic classification tools). Land cover classifications, which include water bodies, vegetation canopies, green open spaces, bare grounds, settlements, and built-up areas, as well as additional classifications of cloud cover, provide a comprehensive overview of land conditions in Indonesia. Based on the results of the study, the average distribution of land classes reached 10,116. The standard deviation was 14,786, which shows the level of variation in the data against the average value, with the higher value indicating the most significant variation in land classification. This study offers a more potential alternative by using Landsat 8 OLI 2022 satellite imagery data from the USGS as a basis for a more in-depth and accurate analysis of land classification. Thus, the results of this study not only contribute to mapping and understanding land use in Indonesia but also provide useful tools for supporting natural resource planning and management, as well as infrastructure development and sustainable development policies in Indonesia

Abstract

Photovoltaic cells are devices that can convert sunlight energy into electrical energy by applying the photovoltaic principle. Indonesia is a country located on the equator that receives a lot of sunlight every year. However, so far the source of electrical energy comes from fossil fuels whose availability is limited. So a material is needed that can improve the performance of photovoltaic cells in producing electrical energy. The purpose of this study was to review the advantages of using Cu-Al electrodes and MgSO4 electrolytes and to find factors that affect the efficiency or performance of photovoltaic cells. This article includes references to articles from 2018 to 2025. The results showed that the use of Cu-Al electrodes and MgSO4 electrolytes can increase cell efficiency. In addition, Cu-Al and MgSO4 are materials that are easy to find and cheap so that they can reduce the cost of making photovoltaic cells compared to other conventional materials that have quite high prices. It is hoped that researchers can utilize this material considering that it has great potential to produce energy in future life.
