Abstract

Islamic Religious Education often relies on a one way teaching pattern that significantly limits student participation and questioning, despite the Islamic scholarly tradition highly valuing questioning as mandated in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. Therefore, this study aims to describe the practice of inquiry learning in Islamic Religious Education and analyze these pedagogical practices as a practical reception of the hadith regarding questioning. Utilizing a qualitative field study design, data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with teachers, which were subsequently analyzed using a living hadith perspective. The findings reveal that inquiry learning serves as a transformative mechanism, shifting the hadith on questioning from a mere normative text into a tangible cultural behavior of dialectical questioning within the classroom. Teachers effectively act as mediators who enliven the hadith’s mandate by facilitating problem-based stimuli and dialogue spaces. As a contribution, this study offers a practical pedagogical model for educators to seamlessly integrate fundamental Islamic scholarly values into daily teaching. Furthermore, the findings imply a critical need for a paradigm shift in religious education methodology, moving from dogmatic-reproductive transmission toward an inquiry-based framework to foster a dynamic learning environment.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers as facilitators of psychological safety in internalizing humanistic values and supporting students’ self-actualization. Contemporary challenges in Islamic education are no longer limited to the transmission of religious knowledge; they also encompass identity crises, moral degradation, and the increasing vulnerability of mental health among Generation Z students. Employing a qualitative library research method with critical discourse and intertextual analysis, this article integrates the concept of psychological safety in modern educational psychology with Islamic humanism rooted in the concepts of *fitrah* and human beings as *khalifah*. The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education teachers play a strategic role in creating psychologically safe classrooms through dialogical, inclusive, and humanistic approaches, including the implementation of Problem-Based Learning and case study methods. Such a learning environment enables students to think critically, express their ideas openly, and develop their innate potential optimally. This study concludes that the success of Islamic education should not be measured solely by cognitive achievement, but also by students’ holistic development, encompassing intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social dimensions. Conceptually, this study contributes by offering a synthesis between modern educational psychology and Islamic humanism, while also providing practical implications for Islamic Religious Education teachers in responding to the complexities of contemporary education

Abstract

Hadith as the main source of Islamic teachings has an important role in educating the mind and building human character. In Islam, reason is seen as a gift that must be educated to be able to think critically, rationally, and based on religious values, while character includes the formation of noble morals that become the basis of human behavior. This study aims to analyze the role of hadith in the education of reason and character building and its relevance in modern life. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach through a literature study, which involves an in-depth study of the traditions related to the education of reason and character building. The results show that the Prophet's hadith provides comprehensive direction in educating the intellect through the recommendation to study and think critically, as well as building character through the internalization of moral values such as honesty, patience, and compassion. This synergy between intellect and character education not only forms intelligent and moral individuals, but also supports the creation of a harmonious and civilized society. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating the teachings of hadith in the education system to create a complete human being in accordance with the goals of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the suitability of teaching material components to national education standards through a literature review approach. Teaching materials are a crucial instrument in the learning process, serving not only as a medium for delivering content but also as a bridge between the curriculum and classroom practice. However, in the field, teaching materials are still found to be not fully structured according to national standards, both in terms of content, delivery strategies, and evaluation. Through a literature analysis, this study found that the ideal structure of teaching materials includes components such as learning objectives, materials, learning activities, evaluation, media, and character values, all of which must be arranged coherently and contextually. Recommended approaches to teaching material development include scientific, competency-based, differentiation, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). In addition, the use of digital technologies such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and interactive multimedia also enriches the components of teaching materials to make them more adaptive and engaging. This study also identified real challenges in teaching material development, including limited teacher training, inadequate facilities, and low digital literacy. Therefore, strategies are recommended to enhance teacher competency, foster collaboration among educators, facilitate continuous evaluation, and strengthen support from the government and educational institutions. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers, curriculum developers, and policymakers in creating quality teaching materials that are relevant to today's learning dynamics.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Prophet Muhammad’s hadith and sunnah as the foundation of Islamic character education. Using a qualitative library research method, this paper analyzes classical and contemporary literature related to moral values derived from prophetic traditions. The study emphasizes that Islamic education aims not only to develop intellectual capacity but also to shape moral integrity, spiritual maturity, and social responsibility. The findings reveal that the prophetic model of education integrates several key principles: exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah), compassion and empathy, consistent moral habituation, appreciation of knowledge, discipline, and the balance between worldly and spiritual life. These values provide a holistic framework for addressing the moral and ethical crises faced by modern society. The research concludes that revitalizing prophetic values within formal and non-formal education can produce a generation of Muslims who are intellectually competent, emotionally resilient, and spiritually grounded. Therefore, the hadith and sunnah are not merely historical or theological references but serve as a living civilizational strategy for character formation in the contemporary era.

Abstract

Abstract This study is motivated by the importance of Islamic Religious Education in shaping the character of elementary school students, particularly in the topic of the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which is often less effective when delivered through conventional lecture methods. This study aims to analyze the use of PowerPoint media as a creative solution for Islamic Religious Education teachers in conveying the values of honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, and noble character to fourth-grade students at SDIT Insan Cermat Kota Bandung. The theoretical framework used in this study includes the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, Social Constructivism Theory, and Social Learning Theory. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies, and were then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that PowerPoint helps improve students’ attention, understanding, emotional engagement, and internalization of the exemplary values of Prophet Muhammad. This medium is effective when teachers are able to design slides that are simple, visual, interactive, and meaningful for students’ learning experiences. Keywords: Islamic Education, PowerPoint Media, Prophet Exemplarity.

Abstract

This article discusses the application of discussion methods in learning, especially in the context of Islamic education, and analyzes the quality and quantity of related hadiths. Discussion methods as a learning strategy are considered effective in encouraging active student participation, fostering a tradition of critical thinking, and creating a dynamic learning atmosphere. The study of hadith in this article is carried out through the takhrij approach and sanad analysis, with an emphasis on the quality of the narrators and the continuity of their sanads. One of the hadiths analyzed is the history of Imam Muslim No. 9, which discusses faith, Islam, and destiny. The results of the study show that the sanad of the hadith is muttashil and all of its narrators have a tsiqah reputation, so that the hadith can be categorized as a sahih hadith. Thus, the discussion method is not only relevant in modern learning, but also has a strong basis in the classical Islamic treasury.

Abstract

This study explores the concept of Prophetic Education in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as an integrative paradigm that unites knowledge (‘ilm), faith (īmān), and morality (akhlāq) within the aims of contemporary Islamic education. In Islam, education is not merely an intellectual process but also a means of spiritual purification (tazkiyah al-nafs) and moral formation (ta’dīb), as emphasized in the Prophet’s saying: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim” (Ibn Mājah, no. 224). Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with thematic (maudhu‘i) analysis, this study examines educational hadiths found in the Kutub al-Sittah and supports them with secondary literature from scholars such as al-Attas (1980), Kuntowijoyo (1991), and al-Ghazālī (2000). The analysis employs a contextual hermeneutic method to interpret the normative and spiritual meanings of the hadiths in light of modern educational challenges. The findings reveal that Prophetic Education encompasses three core dimensions: (1) Knowledge (epistemological), emphasizing the acquisition and application of knowledge for goodness and wisdom; (2) Faith (theological), fostering sincerity and spiritual awareness in the learning process; and (3) Morality (ethical-social), directing knowledge toward virtuous action and human civilization. These three dimensions form a holistic unity in nurturing insān kāmil—the complete human who is intellectually enlightened, spiritually mature, and morally upright. In the context of the Fifth Industrial Revolution and the digital era, Prophetic Education offers an alternative paradigm for Islamic education to address moral degradation and the secularization of knowledge through integrative curricula, adab-based pedagogy, and teacher exemplarity as the inheritors of prophetic values. Therefore, Prophetic Education in the hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ is not only theologically grounded but also contextually relevant and practically applicable as a foundational model for holistic, ethical, and civilization-oriented Islamic education.

Abstract

The study of the traces of hadith as a primary source of Islamic teachings is an important topic in the discourse of Islamic scholarship. This research aims to explain the development of hadith through an analysis of the role of the companions in the transmission of the divine revelation in the form of the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) hadith. The research method used is library research with a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach to analyze data from classical hadith collections (Shahih Bukhari, Shahih Muslim) and works by major scholars (Ibn Hajar, Ibn Taymiyyah). The results show that the role of the companions in hadith transmission began during the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and continued until the second century of the Hijri calendar. The recording of hadith began during the time of the Prophet (SAW), with a process of validation carried out by the companions, which also counters criticisms from Western scholars regarding the qualifications of the companions in transmitting hadith. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the development of hadith and the role of the companions in shaping the Islamic tradition and preserving the authentic teachings of Islam.
