Abstract

This study aims to analyze the consistency characteristics of logical fallacy identification by a Large Language Model (LLM) and to identify the types and distribution of logical fallacies in students' undergraduate theses. The research employed a qualitative descriptive design supported by quantitative data. The sample consisted of six theses written by 2021-cohort Indonesian Language and Literature Education students at Universitas Jambi, selected through purposive sampling with a maximum-variation principle across three fields of study (Teaching, Linguistics, and Literature). Each argumentative chapter (Chapters I, II, IV, V) was analyzed using Claude Opus 4.6 across three independent runs with identical prompts, yielding 72 analysis sets. Consistency was measured using TARa (Total Agreement Rate at parsed-answer level) within an intra-rater reliability framework, while the qualitative data were analyzed with the Miles & Huberman (1994) model. The findings show that LLM identification consistency is low overall yet patterned (pooled TARa 31.58%; 24 out of 76 consistent instances): Chapter II attained the highest TARa (70.00%) and Chapter IV the lowest (3.45%). Among the 24 consistent instances, four fallacy types were identified: False Cause (54.17%), Begging the Question (25.00%), Hasty Generalization (16.67%), and Missing the Point (4.17%); no fallacies of Ambiguity were detected. The Teaching field contained the most instances (54.17%), and Chapter II was the most vulnerable structural component (58.33%). These findings extend Harjono’s (2011) work on relevance fallacies and provide an empirical basis for targeted pedagogical interventions to improve students’ logical reasoning, particularly in distinguishing correlation from causation and avoiding circular reasoning.

Abstract

The problem of this study is “Is there any significant difference on writing achievement between the eighth grade students of SMP N 26 Palembang who are taught by using scramble sentence method and those who are not?”. This research applied quantitative method namely quasi experimental design and used simple random sampling. The writer used writing rubric to collect data and analyzed the result of test by using paired sample t-test and independent simple t-test. Total number of population was 303 students which is VIII.3 as control group and VIII.I, as experimental group. Based on the result of this study, the mean score in post test score were 73.44 for control group and 76.09 for experimental group. The result of the independent sample t-test shows the value of sig. (2-tailed) was 0.01 < 0.05 at the level of significant 0.05. While, the value of t-obtained was 2.415 higher than the critical value of t-table was 1.665 with degree of freedom 62, can be concluded that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the protagonist, antagonist, and tritagonist characters in Pulang by Leila S. Chudori based on physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects through a structural approach. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a structural approach. The data consisted of words, phrases, sentences, dialogues, and narrative passages depicting character traits in the novel. Data were collected through library research and note-taking techniques and analyzed through identification, classification, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Dimas Suryo, as the protagonist, represents longing, identity loss, and the struggles of political exile; Hananto Prawiro, as the antagonist, represents power, domination, and the influence of political authority on social life; while Lintang Utara, as the tritagonist, represents historical awareness and intergenerational reconciliation. These characterizations are constructed through the integration of physiological, psychological, and sociological dimensions that contribute to the overall narrative structure. The study demonstrates that a structural approach effectively reveals the relationship between characterization and other intrinsic elements of the novel while enriching characterization studies in Indonesian literary scholarship.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of semantics in interpreting the cultural values embedded in the Tabuik ceremony in Pariaman, West Sumatra. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through direct observation and in-depth interviews with Pak Arif, a 50-year-old local resident who has actively participated in the Tabuik ceremony since his youth. Observations reveal that elements of the Tabuik, such as the buraq, bungosalapan, and tonggak atam, carry strong symbolic meanings. For instance, the buraq is understood as a symbol of spiritual strength and hope, while bungo salapan reflects the values of unity and the interconnectedness between local customs and Islamic teachings. These symbols are not merely ornamental; they serve as conveyors of cultural messages passed down through generations. A semantic analysis of these symbols helps clarify how the community understands and preserves the values embedded in their traditions. Thus, cultural semantics becomes an essential tool for maintaining identity, strengthening social solidarity, and reviving the meaning contained within local traditions such as the Tabuik.

Abstract

Questioning skills, in most teacher education discourse, is treated as though it were a matter of technique as if asking better questions were simply a skill to be drilled. This study takes a different position. Drawing on Facione's critical thinking framework, we examine how dispositional and cognitive dimensions of critical thought shape the questioning practices of 111 preservice language teachers during microteaching. Using PLS-SEM, findings confirm that critical thinking disposition predicts both critical thinking skills (t = 5.203, p < .001) and questioning skills directly (t = 4.206, p < .001), while critical thinking skills independently predict questioning quality (t = 3.952, p < .001). CTD and CTS together explain 32% of variance in questioning skills. The remaining variance being, frankly, an invitation for researchers who assume questioning is reducible to pedagogy alone. What emerges from this data is uncomfortable but necessary is being preservice teacher cannot train someone to ask intellectually serious questions if they are not, at some level, an intellectually serious person. Teacher education programs would do well to sit with that.
