Abstract

The gear sprocket is a transmission system component that operates under repeated torsional and frictional loads, making its surface susceptible to wear. To improve wear resistance, a treatment is required to harden the surface layer without significantly altering its dimensions. This study aims to evaluate the effect of combining ice-water quenching and varying shot peening pressures on the surface hardness and microstructural changes of a medium carbon steel gear sprocket. The specimens were austenitized at 850 °C for 15 minutes and rapidly cooled using ice water. Subsequent shot peening was performed for 20 minutes using 0.6 mm diameter steel shots at pressures of 5, 6, 7, and 8 bar. Surface hardness was measured using the Vickers (HV) method, and microstructural observations were conducted with an optical microscope after 2% Nital etching to identify phase transformations. The results show that ice-water quenching increased the surface hardness from 199 HV to 329 HV, representing an increase of approximately 65% over the untreated condition. The combination of quenching and shot peening further enhanced hardness to 404 HV, 454 HV, 487 HV, and 552 HV at 5, 6, 7, and 8 bar, respectively, with the maximum improvement reaching 177% compared to the untreated specimen. Microstructural analysis revealed fine martensitic structures on the quenched surface and a plastically deformed layer produced by shot impacts. Therefore, the combination of ice-water quenching and shot peening effectively enhances surface hardness and refines the microstructure of gear sprockets, indicating its potential application in improving the transmission components wear resistance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Qur’anic learning in shaping students’ tolerance character at SMKS Muhammadiyah Berau. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach to explore in depth the processes, meanings, and experiences involved in implementing Qur’anic learning within the framework of Islamic character education. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving school principals, Islamic Education teachers, Qur’anic subject teachers, and students of grades X–XII. Data analysis followed the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation and member checking to ensure validity. The findings indicate that Qur’anic learning contributes significantly to the internalization of tolerance values when conducted contextually, reflectively, and supported by teachers’ exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah). Dialogical approaches, inclusive classroom interactions, and school culture that promotes moderation strengthen students’ attitudes of respect, justice, and social harmony. However, external influences such as social media and environmental factors remain challenges that require adaptive and collaborative educational strategies. This study highlights the importance of integrating faith, knowledge, and moral values in Qur’anic learning to foster inclusive and tolerant student character in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Abstract

The problem in this study was the low learning motivation of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 6 Metro Timur. This study aimed to determine the effect of the contextual teaching and learning model and problem-based learning on student learning motivation in Pancasila Education. The method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The population included all fourth-grade students in classes A and B, and the sample was determined using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were conducted through tests and non-tests. The data were analysed using simple linear regression and the Independent Sample T-test. The results showed that the contextual teaching and learning model had an effect on student motivation to learn with a significance value of 0.018 < 0.05. there was an effect of the problem-based learning model with a significance value of 0.016 < 0.05, and there was a difference in the effect between the application of the contextual teaching and learning model and the problem-based learning model on student learning motivation with a significance value of 0.002 < 0.05.

Abstract

The proliferation of social media as a dominant mode of digital communication has engendered profound transformations in language practices within higher education, particularly at Islamic institutions where academic discourse intersects with religious communication ethics. This study investigates the influence of social media language creativity—encompassing slang, abbreviations, code-mixing, and neologisms—on the linguistic proficiency of students at the Faculty of Sharia, Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Intan Lampung. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach integrated with a systematic literature review, primary data were collected through participatory observation and semi-structured interviews with 60 students drawn from three study programs (Islamic Family Law, Sharia Economic Law, and Constitutional Law) via purposive sampling. Secondary data were obtained from peer-reviewed publications spanning 2020–2025. Findings reveal a dual impact of social media language use: on the one hand, digital platforms foster vocabulary enrichment, linguistic creativity, and innovative communicative strategies—including the adaptation of informal registers for digital da'wah; on the other hand, habitual exposure to informal digital language diminishes the consistency of standard Indonesian in academic contexts, manifesting as grammatical imprecision, register conflation, and reduced formal writing quality. Content analysis further identifies five principal factors driving slang adoption: the need to follow digital trends (93%), peer group influence (90%), social media as a vocabulary source (87%), communication efficiency (80%), and linguistic creativity (72%). Notably, students demonstrate context-dependent register switching, predominantly employing informal registers in peer communication (92%) while reverting to standard Indonesian in academic presentations (90%). These findings underscore the necessity of strengthening digital literacy programs, institutional language policies, and pedagogical interventions that balance creative expression with formal academic standards in Islamic higher education.
