Abstract

Introduction: One of the pathogenic bacteria that causes dental caries was Streptococcus mutans. The use of antibacterial agents such as chlorhexidine was the gold standard for eliminating Streptococcus mutans but can cause side effects if used long term. Traditional medicine is still used as an alternative by Indonesian people to reduce the side effects of chemical drugs. Suruhan leaves were wild plants that contain antibacterial compounds in the form of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenols which can inhibit bacterial growth. Purpose: This study aims to determine the antibacterial potency of suruhan leaves extract against the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Methods: This study was an in vitro laboratory experimental study. The treatment group consisted of ethanol extract of suruhan leaves in concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 25%, and 50%. The control group consisted of 0.2% chlorhexidine as positive control and distilled water as negative control. Antibacterial activity test used the disc diffusion method. The inhibition zone values were measured then analyzed using statistical one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey tests. Results: The largest mean inhibition zone of ethanol extract of suruhan leaves formed was 16.47 mm at a concentration of 50%, whereas at a concentration of 5%, it had no antibacterial activity. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of suruhan leaves (Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth) concentrations of 10%, 15%, 25%, and 50% had antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans.

Abstract

In the effort to hold up the case spread of COVID-19’s growth rate by implementing health protocols such as the use of masks, supervision is needed especially for the people who have not or still have problems to wearing masks. In this research, the system utilizes the robotic power to identify visitors whether they are wearing masks or not, and automatically distribute masks if the user is detected as not wearing a mask. The user face detection process uses the Haar Cascade Classifier algorithm and SVM (Support Vector Machine) to classify users who wear masks or not. For the user who is detected as not wearing masks, myCobot-Pi with the support of suction pump will distribute masks to users. The use of myCobot-Pi as a raspberry pi based robotic arm allows the application of the system on devices that are minimal in terms of specifications and size. Through trials by taking 41 examples of detection cases, 29 cases were found that managed to detect the correct use of masks. In addition, in this study we use PP sheet plastic protector to replace the packaging of the mask because it can be carried by the suction pump properly.

Abstract

Earthquake-resistant building design is very important, especially in earthquake-prone areas such as Indonesia. The shape of the column cross-section and the ties' configuration greatly affect the building's stiffness when exposed to earthquake loads. Therefore, knowing the optimal tie configuration to increase earthquake resistance is important. This study aims to analyze the structural performance of a 10-story building using columns with spiral stirrups and square stirrups. Model 1 uses columns with square stirrups, Model 2 uses spiral stirrups, and Model 3 is a combination of both. Simulations were conducted using ETABS 18 software, where the base shear force, displacement, and inter-story drift as well as the collapse pattern and performance level of the structure were analyzed using the pushover analysis method to determine the effect of each configuration on the stiffness and ductility of the columns when receiving earthquake loads. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) analysis was carried out to ensure that the differences in seismic performance between the three models were significantly validated. The results show that Model 2 has lower displacement and base shear force values and smaller inter-story drift than the other models, and the collapse pattern and structural performance level of Model 2 are also smaller than the other models. The ANOVA results showed no significant difference between the models. This is because the differences in displacement and drift values are relatively small. These findings can provide guidance for selecting the most efficient column tie configuration for resisting earthquake loads and achieving safety levels.
