Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the PPP (Presentation, Practice, and Production) method in improving descriptive text writing skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri Bandung. The PPP method is implemented through three stages: Presentation, Practice, and Production. In the Presentation stage, the teacher delivers the material in a structured manner. In the Practice stage, students engage in guided writing practice. Whereas in the Production stage, students produce writing independently. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, employing the one-group pretest-posttest technique. Data were collected through descriptive writing tests before and after the implementation of the PPP method. The research results show a significant improvement in students' writing skills after the implementation of the PPP method. The average pretest score of 56.94 increased to 68.85 on the posttest. Statistical analysis using the paired t-test showed a significance value (p < 0.05), which means that the PPP method is effective in improving students' descriptive writing skills. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the PPP method is an effective teaching strategy and is recommended for use in teaching descriptive text writing.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Wordwall, a gamified digital platform for vocabulary learning, in improving vocabulary mastery and procedural-writing quality among first-year vocational students in a Karawitan (traditional arts) program. Using a quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design, two intact classes received different instructional treatments across three meetings held over a two-week period, the experimental class completed Wordwall activities, whereas the control class followed conventional methods. After initial differences were controlled with ANCOVA, the experimental class showed a significantly larger vocabulary gain (partial η² = 0.25) and greater improvements in lexical variety and technical accuracy in writing than the control class. These findings indicate that integrating Wordwall boosts student engagement and successfully transfers technical vocabulary to procedural texts. Therefore, teachers can adopt vocationally themed Wordwall tasks to accelerate language learning, and policy-makers should provide training and digital infrastructure so that interactive tools like Wordwall can be implemented widely in vocational schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Implementation of the Policy of the Directorate General of Islamic Education Circular No. 10 of 2024 concerning the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) at the Tarogong Islamic Boarding School, Garut Regency, and its impact on students' learning motivation. Education, especially in Islamic boarding schools, requires special attention regarding adequate nutritional access for students, which has a significant impact on the learning process. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design, which allows researchers to explore in depth the experiences and perceptions of students, teachers, Islamic boarding school leaders, kitchen managers and parents regarding this program. The results of the study indicate that this policy has a positive impact on students' learning motivation, where the majority of students reported increased enthusiasm and concentration in participating in learning after receiving nutritious food intake regularly. However, there are challenges in its implementation, such as the quality of distribution and the need for training for supporting staff. This study provides recommendations for related parties to improve collaboration between educational institutions, local governments, and logistics providers for the sustainability of the program, as well as implementing evaluation mechanisms to improve aspects that are less effective. In conclusion, the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) not only functions as a nutritional intervention, but also as an important strategy in improving the motivation and learning achievement of students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of peer corrective feedback (PCF) treatment on students' writing skills in the hortatory exposition text of grade XI in the second semester of vocational high school. This research used a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. The data were collected from forty-three students from the experimental and control groups through observation, tests including pre-test and post-test, and treatment through feedback responses and PCF form for the experimental class. The data were analyzed by using a paired sample t-test to compare the writing skills in each of the two classes, and an independent sample t-test to determine the influence of peer corrective feedback on students’ writing skills. The paired sample t-test indicated a significant difference in writing skills between both classes. The independent sample t-test showed that peer corrective feedback positively influenced students' writing, helping with the correction and revision process, as a result, it is improving their hortatory exposition writing skills. It also enhanced their learning experience and motivation in the classroom as it was supported by more interactive and communicative learning through a collaborative learning environment.

Abstract

Communication anxiety significantly hinders learning outcomes in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. This research explores the correlation between interpersonal intelligence and communication anxiety among high school students, assessing how variations in interpersonal skills influence anxiety levels during EFL interactions. Employing a quantitative approach, the study engaged 32 eleventh-grade students from class 11 MIPA 3 at SMA Mekar Arum, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using designed questionnaires to evaluate interpersonal intelligence and communication anxiety and analyzed with Pearson Product Moment Correlation via SPSS 22.0. The results indicated a significant negative correlation between interpersonal intelligence and communication anxiety (r= -0.494, p < 0.05), demonstrating that students with higher interpersonal intelligence experience lower communication anxiety. Notably, 65.6% of the students demonstrated medium levels of interpersonal intelligence, while 34.4% had high levels. In terms of communication anxiety, 56.3% of students experienced moderate levels, and 43.8% experienced high levels. Conclusively, this study underscores the importance of fostering interpersonal intelligence as a strategic approach to alleviate communication anxiety in EFL settings. It recommends that EFL instructors integrate group-based and interactive activities that enhance interpersonal relations among students to improve their educational experience and outcomes.

Abstract

Given the significance of corrective feedback in enhancing language learners’ speaking skills, especially in boosting accuracy and motivation, this study aims to examine the impact of direct oral corrective feedback (OCF) on Indonesian EFL learners. While research has shown that teacher feedback plays a crucial role in student performance, there is limited insight into how students interpret and engage with feedback—a factor essential to its effectiveness. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, this study involved 39 vocational school students from SMK Medikacom in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews, enabling a thorough exploration of students’ responses, behaviours, and attitudes toward Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF). Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF) improved students' speaking skills, with Recast, Clarification Request, and Repetition being the most common types and Recast being the most effective for error correction without disrupting communication. Students reported gains in pronunciation, grammar, fluency, confidence, and teacher-student rapport. Some students, however, felt discomfort with feedback, highlighting the need for a supportive, non-judgmental approach to prevent negative emotional impacts. This study suggests that while implicit feedback benefits advanced learners, lower-proficiency students may need more explicit correction. To maximise OCF’s impact, educators are encouraged to tailor feedback to individual proficiency levels and focus on fostering supportive, adaptive classroom environments.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study examined the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in developing Grade VII students' skimming skills for descriptive text comprehension at SMPN 18 Bandung over four weeks. A total of 62 students participated in the study, divided equally into an experimental group (n=31) and a control group (n=31). Both groups were assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments. The experimental group, which received instruction through the PBL approach, showed a statistically significant improvement in their reading comprehension scores—from a pre-test average of 27.387 to a post-test average of 40.354 (gain = 12.967). In contrast, the control group, which received conventional instruction, improved from 25.354 to 36.387 (gain = 11.032). The results indicate that the PBL approach is more effective than traditional methods in enhancing students’ skimming skills and comprehension of descriptive texts. It is suggested that English teachers consider implementing Project-Based Learning as an alternative instructional strategy to improve reading comprehension and overall academic achievement.
