Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a crucial role in shaping students' character and academic excellence. However, many pesantren face challenges in maintaining and improving student quality due to outdated leadership approaches, lack of innovation, and limited resources. This study examines the implementation of transformational leadership in Islamic boarding schools as a strategy to enhance student quality. The research aims to analyze the impact of transformational leadership on students' academic performance, character development, and overall competency. This study employs a qualitative research approach with a case study methodology, involving interviews, observations, and document analysis in selected pesantren. School leaders, teachers, and students participated as key informants to provide a comprehensive understanding of how transformational leadership influences educational outcomes. The findings indicate that transformational leadership significantly contributes to improving student quality by fostering a positive learning environment, encouraging teacher innovation, and enhancing student motivation. Leaders who inspire, mentor, and involve students in decision-making processes contribute to better academic achievement and character formation. However, challenges such as resistance to change, inadequate leadership training, and structural constraints still hinder the full implementation of transformational leadership. Based on these findings, the study recommends continuous leadership training programs, the integration of modern educational strategies with traditional pesantren values, and increased collaboration between pesantren and external stakeholders to ensure sustainable quality improvement. Future research could explore the long-term impact of transformational leadership in different pesantren models and its adaptability to diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This research aims to develop recount text writing teaching materials for sixth-grade students at SDN Permata Biru, focusing on mastering the past tense thru the CASE approach (Creative, Active, Systematic, and Effective). This study was motivated by students’ low writing ability, mainly due to limited mastery of past tense and low engagement in learning. This research applies a quantitative quasi-experimental design (One Group Pre-test and Post-test) involving 34 students. The research instruments include a writing test, a scoring rubric, and a student engagement observation sheet. The results show that students’ writing ability improved significantly after using CASE-based materials. The average pre-test score of 66.62 increased to 77.32 on the post-test. The paired sample t-test showed a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. An N-Gain value of 0.34 indicates a moderate improvement. The observation results also show that students become more active and enthusiastic in the learning process. Thus, CASE-based recount text writing materials have proven effective in improving students' writing abilities, particularly in the use of past tense and systematic text organization. Practically, this approach can serve as an alternative for teachers in creating creative, active, and meaningful writing lessons in elementary school.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges of mastering technical vocabulary in writing English procedure texts in grade X high school students in Indonesia, which is caused by traditional teacher-centered teaching methods and the lack of adaptation of interactive technology. As a solution, the study proposes the integration of AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT) to provide personalized learning, instant feedback, and contextual examples. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with a survey technique through a validated 5-point Likert scale questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.893). Participants consisted of 57 high school students in Bandung, with data analysis using descriptive statistics. The results showed that 78.9% of students used ChatGPT to generate procedure texts, and the chatbot was rated as easy to use (mean 3.33–3.58). However, 31.6% of students stated that vocabulary was irrelevant to the curriculum, and 43.9% were not motivated to write procedure texts. The conclusion of the study confirms that AI chatbots are effective as micro-aids, but they require curriculum-based content integration, interface improvements, and collaboration with teachers to improve holistic effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences and strategies employed by English teachers in teaching vocabulary to young learners at an elementary school in Bandung. The research focuses on how teachers implement vocabulary teaching techniques, the types of media and materials they use, and the challenges they face during instruction. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving two English teachers at a private elementary school The findings reveal that both teachers apply a combination of interactive and varied techniques including games, storytelling, flashcards (physical and digital), and smartboard usage to engage students actively in vocabulary acquisition. The multisensory approach and incorporation of diverse media proved effective in increasing student motivation, participation, and retention of vocabulary. However, challenges such as classroom management and sustaining student attention were evident, highlighting the need for continuous professional development and supportive institutional frameworks. This study underscores that comprehensive vocabulary instruction combining multiple strategies and media can enhance young learners’ English vocabulary mastery and suggests schools invest in teacher training and adequate teaching resources to improve the quality of elementary English education
