Abstract

Text not only conveys the message through the words used, but also through its visual aspects. One of the most influential visual elements is the type of font. Recognising and determining font types appropriately is essential, whether in the academic sector, the printing industry, graphic design, or digital systems. However, in practice, manually recognising font types takes time, skill, and high precision. With the advancement of digital technology, the variety of font types is increasing, making the process of identifying fonts more complicated. This requires the development of methods that are able to distinguish different types of fonts precisely and accurately. This study reveals the potential of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithms as an optimisation in facing font identification challenges, as well as to prove that deep learning can provide more efficient and precise solutions, by comparing three different CNN architectures, namely DenseNet121, ResNet50, and VGG16. The implementation of the method is carried out by applying data augmentation techniques and setting CNN parameters such as the number of epochs, learning rate, batch size, Adam optimiser, and image size. The results showed that the DenseNet121 model achieved an accuracy of up to 96.8%, ResNet50 92.9%, and VGG16 96.4%. The convolutional neural network algorithm proves that it can identify various font types with optimal accuracy.

Abstract

Blasting is used to break hard rock in mining, but the vibrations can destabilize the slope through the resulting soil vibrations. The resulting blasting vibration must be in a safe condition, especially the stability of the mine slope around the blasting. This study aims to analyze the value of the slope factor of safety (FS), blasting soil vibration, and the influence of soil vibration on the value of the factor of safety (FS). The research method involves data collection followed by slope stability analysis utilizing the Bishop Simplified Method within Slide software and blasting vibration analysis using regression models to determine Maximum Horizontal Acceleration (Amax). The study results showed that the value of FS varied based on location and geological conditions. The A-A' section in the upper western part of the mine has the highest FS value of 2.36, while the C-C' cross-section in the lower eastern part of the mine has the lowest FS value of 1.16. Analysis of soil tremors in Amax values showed the highest values in August and the lowest at the end of October. The Amax value has an effect on the decrease in the FS value based on the blasting distance. The B-B' cross-section has the largest influence, the A-A' and C-C' cross-sections have a fairly small influence, and the D-D' cross-section has no influence.

Abstract

The behavior of long-haul truck drivers is shaped by the weak enforcement of working-hour rules, tight deadlines, and heavy workloads. Over-dimensioning and overloading practices further increase risks by forcing drivers to handle excessive loads and work for prolonged periods. This study predicts speeding behavior among long-haul freight truck drivers using statistical and machine learning models. Data was collected from 370 respondents at two weigh stations in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, covering eight socio-demographic, economic, and operational predictors. Three models were tested: Binary Logistic Regression (BLR), Random Forest (RF), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). The dataset was balanced and split into 70% training and 30% testing, with performance assessed using accuracy, recall, F1-score, and AUROC. XGBoost delivered the best results, achieving 97.3% accuracy, 93.2% recall, a 96.4% F1-score, and a perfect AUROC of 1.000. RF also showed strong performance with 94.05% accuracy and an AUROC of 0.973, while BLR served as a relevant baseline despite weaker predictions. Key predictors of speeding violations were daily sleep duration, monthly income, and driving experience. This study demonstrates how machine learning can be effectively integrated alongside transportation data under imbalanced conditions, providing evidence-based insights to strengthen freight transport safety.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has created a new sphere for social interaction and Islamic da‘wah while simultaneously opening opportunities for conflicts arising from the spread of hoaxes, slander, and hate speech based on religion. In this context, the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) plays an important role as a religious institution that not only issues legal fatwas but also performs a function of social mediation. This study aims to analyze MUI’s mechanism of religious mediation through Fatwa No. 24 of 2017 on the Law and Guidelines for Social Interaction via Social Media, by examining the extent to which maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah (the higher objectives of Islamic law) are reflected in its substance and objectives. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach combined with a normative-sociological perspective and is categorized as library research. The primary data are derived from the official text of the MUI fatwa, while secondary data include the Qur’an, hadith, classical uṣūl al-fikih works, and relevant academic literature. The analysis uses content analysis guided by the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The findings reveal that MUI Fatwa No. 24/2017 embodies the values of protecting religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), intellect (ḥifẓ al-‘aql), and honor (ḥifẓ al-nasl), and functions as a form of normative mediation in maintaining ethical digital communication. The contribution of this study lies in strengthening the discourse of fikih al-islāḥ (the jurisprudence of reconciliation) within contemporary Islamic law, by offering a maqāṣid-based perspective in understanding fatwas as social instruments for fostering peace in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the conceptual and practical distinctions between corruption, gifts, and grants within Indonesia’s legal framework while analyzing how contemporary Islamic jurisprudence interprets similar practices that may lead to unethical influence. This study's goal is to address the central problem of determining when a gift becomes an illicit benefit, how moral considerations shape decision-making by public officials, and why the convergence of ethical and legal standards is essential for maintaining public trust. Using a normative juridical method, the study reviews legal norms, scholarly opinions, ethical principles, and selected cases to understand how rules and moral reasoning interact. The findings of this study indicate that Indonesian positive law clearly distinguishes corruption, grants, and gifts based on the relationship to public office, conflicts of interest, and transparency obligations as regulated under the Anti-Corruption Law and KPK regulations. In contrast, contemporary Islamic jurisprudence evaluates grants and gifts given to public officials as potentially constituting risywah when they are accompanied by an intention to influence decisions or result in social injustice. Comparative analysis demonstrates that the legal-formal approach of positive law and the moral-transcendental approach of Islamic jurisprudence are not contradictory but complementary. Both legal systems converge on the shared objective of safeguarding public integrity, justice, and the public interest. The integration of normative legal mechanisms with ethical principles derived from maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah produces a more comprehensive framework for corruption prevention. The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of an integrative analytical model that bridges legal certainty with moral consciousness. This model reframes the regulation of gratification not merely as an administrative obligation but as an instrument for cultivating ethical integrity among public officials. Accordingly, the study contributes both theoretically to the development of integrative legal scholarship and practically to the advancement of morally grounded anti-corruption policies in modern society.

Abstract

Changing the law is a necessity in this life. This work is here to explore the influence of Ibn Qayyum al-Gauziyah's thoughts on one of the theories of legal change. Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyah in his legal thinking provides the widest possible space for the door of ijtihad in responding to change as a reality that cannot be avoided. Qualitative research methods using literature research while the analysis knife used is by analyzing information that has been collected from library data and social theory, or what is called the doctrinal-deductive method. The results of the discussion are that the legal change paradigm method is inseparable from the factors of the era, place, situation, intention and custom. Ibn Qayyim al-Gauziyah's theory of legal change is a concept of renewing Islamic legal thought. This means that Islamic law is a law that is dynamic, responsive and adaptable to demands for change. The implication of al-Jauziyah's theory of legal changes to society is in the context of achieving universal benefit in society as the purpose of the law itself.

Abstract

Imam Syafi'i's ideas regarding qaul qadim and qaul jadid are interesting to observe. From the idea that shows flexibility in the application of Islamic sharia, Islamic law, or Islamic fiqh, it appears that Imam Syafi'i has provided a methodical framework in addressing the application of Islamic sharia, Islamic law, or Islamic fiqh which has relevance to various social contexts that covers it. This implies that Islamic sharia, Islamic law, or Islamic law is a process of grounding theocentric values that are ideal and sacred to anthropocentric values that are very dynamic and profane. In this process, Imam Syafi'i's constructive and innovative ideas regarding qaul qadim and qaul jadid, along with various sociological factors that became the background for changing his views, had practical implications for the birth of a methodical framework for the application of Islamic sharia, Islamic law, or Islamic fiqh that can be applied in different contexts of place, time or circumstances
