Abstract

Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) is a process of changing Ag+ ions to Ag0. The biosynthesis method in this research is green synthesis using natural ingredients to reduce silver, this synthesis is safer, environmentally friendly and economical. Based on this, this research aims to determine the optimal reaction conditions in the biosynthesis process using ethanol extract from cock leaves. The research method carried out pH optimization with variations of 8, 9, and 10 and then obtained the best pH, where the pH optimization will later be used in the AgNO3 optimization process with variations of 1mM, 2mM, and 4mM. After obtaining the best Ag optimization, the next stage was extract optimization using variations of 0.5%, 1% and 2%, the results of which will be seen based on the SPR peak of 400-500 nm which indicates the formation of AgNPs. The results of the research showed that AgNPs from cockang leaf ethanol extract were able to reduce at pH 8, AgNO3 2mM and 4mM, as well as 0.5% extract, and the contact time reaction showed a good formula for AgNP 1, AgNP2, AgNP3 which was indicated by the absorbance intensity at long waves that form AgNPs at the SPR peak of 400-500. Based on the results of SEM characterization, the morphology at a concentration of 2 mM has a surface that is not very smooth and the size is not very uniform, but at a concentration of 4 mM the surface is smooth and the particles are not uniform. With particle sizes in the range of 50-80 nm.

Abstract

Occupational health and safety (OHS) disclosure is an important aspect of corporate responsibility, particularly in high-risk industries. This study examines the effect of profitability, firm size, and firm age on OHS disclosure, with leverage and institutional ownership as control variables. The study uses secondary data from annual and sustainability reports of construction and mining companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2022–2024. OHS disclosure was measured using a 30-indicator index based on GRI 403:2018 and Indonesian OHS regulations. Data were analyzed using panel data regression with the Random Effects Model as the best estimation method. The results show that profitability and firm size have a positive and significant effect on OHS disclosure, while firm age, leverage, and institutional ownership have no significant effect. These findings indicate that companies with stronger financial performance and larger scale tend to disclose OHS information more extensively. This study provides empirical evidence on OHS disclosure practices in the construction and mining sectors as high-risk industries in Indonesia.

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation in the skin, contributing to oxidative stress, erythema, pigmentation, and long-term effects such as photoaging and increased risk of skin carcinogenesis. Plant-derived extracts rich in phenolic and flavonoid compounds have gained increasing interest as natural photoprotective ingredients due to their dual capacity for UV absorption and ROS scavenging. This study aimed to formulate porang leaf ethanol extract into a lotion and evaluate its in vitro photoprotective activity based on sun protection factor (SPF) value determination. Porang leaves were extracted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol. The SPF value of the extract was determined spectrophotometrically using the Mansur equation at wavelengths of 290–320 nm. The extract was then formulated into three lotion variants using stearic acid-triethanolamine emulsifier systems at ratios of 3:1 (F1), 6:2 (F2), and 9:3 (F3), and subjected to physical stability evaluation including organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, flow type, and accelerated stability testing over 10 cycles. The extract demonstrated concentration-dependent SPF values ranging from 16.5 at 20 ppm to 47.7 at 320 ppm, corresponding to high UV protection. All three lotion formulas met physical stability criteria, with F3 showing the most favorable physical properties. However, F1 retained the highest SPF value (up to 34.75) before stress conditions, indicating a trade-off between emulsifier concentration and photoprotective performance. These findings suggest that porang leaf ethanol extract has preliminary potential as a natural sunscreen ingredient. Future studies should focus on photostability testing, irritation assessment, and in vivo SPF confirmation to support the development of porang-based sunscreen as a commercially viable and environmentally safer alternative to synthetic UV filters.
