Abstract

Gender differences in mental health are widely reported, yet few studies have examined whether commonly used assessment instruments function equivalently across gender at the item level, particularly within the Dual Continua Model of Mental Health. The present study addresses this gap by evaluating gender-related measurement bias using regression-based Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analysis. A total of 1,674 university students from 32 Indonesian institutions completed the Azira Mental Health Scale (AMHS-24), which measures psychological well-being and psychological distress. DIF was assessed by controlling for latent trait levels to determine whether males and females respond differently to items at equivalent levels of psychological functioning. Results indicate that most well-being items exhibited no DIF, suggesting structural stability across gender for positive emotion, social relationship, and life satisfaction domains. In contrast, several distress items demonstrated uniform and nonuniform DIF, with one item showing strong magnitude. These findings suggest that the distress dimension may be more sensitive to gender-related response tendencies than the well-being dimension. By integrating the dual-continua framework with item-level psychometric analysis, this study clarifies whether observed gender differences reflect construct-relevant variance or differential item functioning, thereby contributing to the theoretical refinement and measurement fairness of mental health assessment.

Abstract

Education has an important role in developing the value of  religious tolerance in students. Learning in the classroom has a strategic role in developing it. This research aims to determine the influence of  the learning process in the classroom on students’ religious tolerance. The research subjects were 210 students who were randomly selected from two junior high schools in the city of  Malang, East Java. Data was collected through a class activity scale and a religious tolerance scale. Analysis was carried out using simple regression techniques. The results of  the analysis of  the influence of  class activities on students’ religious tolerance character, there are six classroom activity indicator factors, namely: classroom rules, student support, student involvement, positive learning, teacher support, class management. Of  these six indicators, the most influence on students’ religious tolerance character. is the rule in the class with the regression results getting a significance value (0.13<0.05). The results of  this research have the implication that classroom rules can influence students’ religious tolerance by 59%.

Abstract

This study aimed to test two main hypotheses regarding bullying in schools. The first hypothesis was that male and female students significantly differed in bullying behavior. The second hypothesis was that school climate significantly influenced bullying. This article used a quantitative design to examine gender and school climate differences in student bullying behavior. Data were obtained through the scale of school climate and bullying. The subjects were 150 (75 males and 75 females) Islamic junior high school students in East Java. The data were analyzed using variance analysis and regression analysis. The results exhibited a difference between males and females in terms of bullying. School climate affected bullying, both overall and in every aspect. Among the five aspects of school climate tested, only student relations had a significant negative effect on bullying. This study indicates that student relations are crucial in bullying and recommends specific interventions to improve safety and inclusivity.
