Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to test two main hypotheses regarding bullying in schools. The first hypothesis was that male and female students significantly differed in bullying behavior. The second hypothesis was that school climate significantly influenced bullying. This article used a quantitative design to examine gender and school climate differences in student bullying behavior. Data were obtained through the scale of school climate and bullying. The subjects were 150 (75 males and 75 females) Islamic junior high school students in East Java. The data were analyzed using variance analysis and regression analysis. The results exhibited a difference between males and females in terms of bullying. School climate affected bullying, both overall and in every aspect. Among the five aspects of school climate tested, only student relations had a significant negative effect on bullying. This study indicates that student relations are crucial in bullying and recommends specific interventions to improve safety and inclusivity.

Abstract

School is an important environment for developing the character of religious tolerance in the younger generation. This study aims to reveal the development of students' religious tolerance through classroom climate. This study used a qualitative approach with 6 teachers and 210 students as respondents. Data collection uses interview techniques and questionnaires to measure religious tolerance and documentation—data analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and areas of conclusion/verification. The study results show that students' religious tolerance can be developed through a classroom climate with three conditions, namely a democratic teacher attitude. These learning strategies allow students to work with other students, and class management provides opportunities for each student to participate in class activities. The analysis results also show that there are driving and inhibiting factors in developing religious tolerance. At the end of the discussion, the authors recommend two actions to create a classroom climate that supports the development of religious tolerance: increasing teacher awareness and understanding of religious tolerance and habituating religious tolerance behavior in students.

Abstract

In social life, whether in the home or school environment, there is a need to instill religiosity which is useful for human life. With this cultivation, humans know that they have God who owns everything, thus reminding us as humans not to be proud of what we already have and to carry out all His commands and stay away from His prohibitions. In the school environment, this is also important to instill so that students know the benefits of instilling an attitude of religiosity. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of class activities on junior high school students' religious beliefs. The research method used was quantitative using a descriptive approach. This approach starts from a theoretical framework, expert ideas, or understanding that is returned to several problems in order to obtain justification through data according to experience in the field. With a population of 255 junior high school students in Malang City, data was collected through observation and questionnaires regarding class activities and student religiosity. The results of the regression analysis of the class activity variable influence student religiosity with a significance value of 0.00 < 0.005. The classroom activity variable has six indicators, namely: classroom rules, student support, student involvement, positive teaching, encouragement and classroom management. Of these six indicators, the one that has the most influence on participants' religious beliefs is teacher support with a significance value of 0.07 < 0.005. This research has an impact on Student Religiosity by 44%.

Abstract

This study rigorously evaluates a mental health assessment tool for college students, grounded in the dual-continua model, which uniquely captures both positive (psychological well-being) and negative (psychological distress) mental health dimensions. Employing a sample of 312 students evenly split by gender, the research meticulously tested the tool's reliability and construct validity. Reliability was confirmed through a robust Cronbach's Alpha of .807, indicating consistency in responses. Construct validity was assessed via confirmatory factor analysis, affirming the tool's capacity to accurately measure the intended constructs with well-being and distress components scoring .828 and .875, respectively. This validation process underscores the instrument's precision and significant contribution to mental health research by providing a nuanced understanding of student mental health through dual-continua models. The findings offer a refined resource for mental health professionals and universities, facilitating the development of targeted interventions. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including its cross-sectional design and the need for further validation across diverse student populations, to ensure the tool's broad applicability and effectiveness in varied contexts.

Abstract

Working as a teacher significantly impacts mental health, both psychological well-being and psychological distress. This study examines the effect of working as a teacher on mental health. A mixed-method sequential explanatory design was chosen because it aims to test theories and provide detailed explanations for the results. Quantitative data were collected from 153 primary school teachers in East Java, and qualitative data were collected from 12 teachers who were purposively selected as interview subjects. The data were collected through interviews and four psychological scales (work commitment, engagement, job satisfaction, and mental health). Statistical inferential analysis and thematic analysis were used to analyse the data. The analyses showed that teachers’ jobs affected their mental health in terms of psychological well-being and psychological distress. Work commitment effected on mental health R=.653, R2=.426 p<.001; work engagements effected on mental health R=.479, R2=.230 p<.001; and job satisfaction effected on mental health R=.668, R2=.446 p<.001. The findings suggest that teachers’ mental health can be strengthened through their attitudes and behaviours towards work.
