Abstract

This research analyzes the implementation of tourism policy in Belitung Regency, focusing on the role of digital communication and community empowerment in developing sustainable ecotourism. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study and thematic analysis of official government documents, the study reveals a gap between policy and practice on the ground. The results indicate that sustainable ecotourism is hindered by environmental degradation and pollution, digital communication is not yet optimal due to low digital literacy and fragmented information systems, and community empowerment remains weak with minimal participation and a low entrepreneurship ratio. The study concludes that a strong synergy between digital strategies, community strengthening, and environmental law enforcement is essential to achieve tourism that is not only economically beneficial but also socially and ecologically sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of research on inclusive tourism communication in Indonesia over the past decade (2014–2024) using a bibliometric approach. Data were obtained from the Scopus database using the keywords "tourism," "inclusive," "accessibility," "special needs," "disability," and "Indonesia." Visualization results using VOSviewer show an increasing publication trend since 2018, dominated by keywords such as tourism, Indonesia, accessibility, and disability, indicating a research focus on accessibility and social justice issues in the tourism sector. Publications are dominated by scientific articles and conference proceedings, while institutional contributions are still concentrated in several major universities in Indonesia. This analysis reveals the potential for strengthening cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary collaboration to support the development of more inclusive and sustainable tourism in the future.

This condition certainly has an impact on tourism destinations and also stakeholders in the tourism sector with no tourist visits in the destination. To face these conditions related to The Covid-19 pandemic, tourism actors must start aggressively looking for new strategies to survive and rise from adversity.  Switching to digital media and making new innovations in digital use is considered to be the most suitable choice during this pandemic. One of the digital innovations that can be made by tourism actors is creating a virtual tour. Virtual tours provide the sensation of traveling for tourists without having to leave the house so that they can prevent the spread of this virus. By using a qualitative descriptive method, this research is a phenomenological study that tries to find out about the perceptions of these virtual tourists in experiencing the virtual tour as a tourism communication medium during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. As a result, even though they cannot feel the sensation and satisfaction of carrying out real tourism activities, virtual tour phenomena activities are quite enough to foster people's to be able to travel again when the conditions are back to normal.

Abstract

Ciliang Village has tourism potential, namely nature, culture, and cuisine. One of the famous there is Batu Hiu Beach. However, this potential has not been explored optimally, as can be seen from the status of the developing village index in 2022 which still has the title "Developing". This research was conducted to identify the potential of the Ciliang Village area and determine a strategy for developing a potential tourist attraction. This research was conducted in the Ciliang Village Tourism Area, Parigi District, Pangandaran Regency. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations then supported by the results of the documentation. Data and information are described descriptively. Based on the results of field observations and in-depth interviews, the strategy for developing tourist attractions by implementing the CBT concept can be started by conducting counseling and introducing the CBT concept, its benefits, and its impacts. This counseling can begin to be socialized to the closest stakeholders such as Pokdarwis and will then be disseminated to the surrounding community. Hopefully, with this development strategy, the Batu Hiu Beach tourist area can increase tourist visits.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is known to the world for the tourism it offers. Various approaches to tourism are now emerging over time, and one of the focuses of government development is village-based tourism or ecovillage toursim. The development of this tourist village itself cannot run well if there is no cooperation between the local government and the local community. Therefore, there is a need for communication between the two parties who have a similar vision and mission and are able to work together to develop an ecovillage. This is also what the West Java government and the people of Garut city are doing to develop tourist villages in their area. This study aims to determine the pattern of information dissemination carried out by the Garut Regency Tourism and Culture Office (DISPARBUD) in the development of an ecovillage-based tourism. Using a qualitative descriptive case study method and involving three members of DISPARBUD as the participants, the results of this study indicate that DIPSPARBUD has a simple pattern of disseminating information to local communities regarding the development of ecovillage. This pattern goes through three stages namely; (1) Information distribution (determining communicators, compiling messages, scheduling socialization), (2) Performance reporting (analyzing and responding to the effects of communication, (3) Managing stakeholders (evaluation). With this communication pattern, DISPARBUD seeks to optimize the delivery of information regarding development a tourist village that continues to move forward and is expected to produce many other tourist villages in the future

Abstract

Abstract

Sustainability communication in the tourism sector often faces challenges in fostering substantial public engagement, primarily due to a reliance on overly rational and academic approaches. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the potential of astrophotography as an effective visual communication medium for conveying sustainability values. Employing a qualitative approach, specifically through photo elicitation and a visual hermeneutics framework, this research analyzes how audiences interpret astrophotography images and the impact of these interpretations on their perceptions of environmental issues. The findings indicate that night sky imagery effectively elicits profound affective responses, such as experiences of transcendence, contemplation, and nostalgia. These responses contribute directly to an increased ecological awareness and a greater appreciation for preserving the night sky from light pollution. The study's findings affirm that astrophotography can function as a powerful visual bridge, connecting aesthetic beauty with the urgency of environmental conservation. This research not only enriches the visual communication literature but also provides a practical foundation for tourism stakeholders to leverage astrophotography as an effective tool for promoting responsible tourism and enhancing environmental awareness.
