Abstract

This study develops and examines an educational material that integrates mathematics learning with environmental awareness, titled Mathematics in Action: Counting Waste, Saving the Earth. Designed for learners aged 8 to 12, the material connects core arithmetic concepts such as addition, multiplication, and estimation with real-world environmental issues, particularly waste management. Using authentic local data from the Citarum River in West Java as a contextual anchor, students engage in mathematical activities that encourage reflection on personal consumption habits and the long-term ecological impact of daily behavior. Employing a descriptive qualitative design that combines a systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews with mathematics teachers, the study synthesizes key perspectives from Environmental Education, Contextual Mathematics, and Problem-Based Learning. The findings indicate that embedding mathematics within environmental contexts enhances student engagement, critical thinking, and emotional connection to sustainability issues. Furthermore, the material aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), offering a practical and values-driven model for integrating ecological literacy into elementary mathematics curricula. This research contributes to the broader discourse on interdisciplinary education and demonstrates how foundational math skills can foster environmental responsibility from an early age.

Abstract

The complexity of communication failure: An analysis of internal and external factors of ATC at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Research This research aims to analyze the complexity of communication failure between the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and the pilot in the Jakarta Flight Information Region (FIR) airspace, with a focus on the internal and external factors that influence it. internal and external factors that influence it. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kompleksitas kegagalan komunikasi (communication failure) antara Air Traffic Controller (ATC) dan pilot di wilayah udara Jakarta Flight Information Region (FIR), dengan fokus pada faktor-faktor internal dan eksternal yang mempengaruhinya. Kegagalan komunikasi dalam penerbangan merupakan ancaman serius terhadap keselamatan dan efisiensi operasional, terutama di wilayah udara padat seperti FIR Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, yang melibatkan wawancara mendalam dengan 17 narasumber dari Jakarta Air Traffic Service Centre (JATSC), observasi langsung di lokasi, serta kajian terhadap dokumen dan sumber sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegagalan komunikasi dipengaruhi oleh interaksi kompleks antara faktor internal seperti kapasitas dan kesiapan personel ATC, keandalan teknologi komunikasi, pelaksanaan prosedur operasional, serta kondisi psikologis petugas; dan faktor eksternal seperti kepadatan lalu lintas udara, kondisi cuaca ekstrem, lingkungan kerja yang bising, serta koordinasi antarinstansi. Jenis kegagalan komunikasi yang ditemukan meliputi total dan partial communication failure, gangguan radio, kerusakan transponder, pemadaman komunikasi (blackout), dan kesalahan interpretasi oleh pilot. Pemahaman terhadap dinamika ini penting dalam merancang strategi mitigasi yang adaptif untuk menjamin keselamatan penerbangan.

Abstract

Communication between pilots and air traffic controllers (ATC) in the aviation sector is supported by a standardized language system known as phraseology, particularly through the use of fixed phrases established by the ICAO. This study focuses on analyzing the formulation of fixed phrase phraseology in ATC communication from an applied linguistics perspective. The research aims to contribute significantly to the understanding of technical language within the aviation context and to enhance professional communication practices in support of optimal flight safety. Using a qualitative approach through a case study conducted at AirNav Indonesia (JATSC), data were collected via interviews, direct observations, and literature reviews. The main findings reveal that fixed phrases play a crucial role in delivering instructions quickly, clearly, and unambiguously, especially in critical or emergency situations. The applied linguistic analysis indicates that sentence structures in phraseology are formulaic and imperative in nature, designed to minimize the risk of communication errors. Furthermore, continuous training for ATC personnel is identified as a key factor in ensuring the accurate and context-appropriate use of phraseology. Adjustments to fixed phrases may occur in exceptional situations, yet these modifications are made without compromising clarity of meaning. This study underscores the importance of phraseology as a form of technical communication that prioritizes safety within the global aviation system.  AbstrakKomunikasi antara pilot dan pengendali lalu lintas udara (ATC) dalam dunia penerbangan ditopang oleh sistem bahasa terstandar yang disebut fraseologi, khususnya melalui penggunaan frase tetap yang ditetapkan oleh ICAO. Penelitian ini bertujuan berfokus pada analisis formulasi fraseologi frase tetap dalam komunikasi ATC dari perspektif linguistik terapan. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi penting terhadap pemahaman bahasa teknis dalam konteks penerbangan dan meningkatkan praktik komunikasi profesional demi keselamatan penerbangan yang optimal. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui studi kasus di AirNav Indonesia (JATSC), data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi langsung, serta kajian literatur. Temuan utama menunjukkan bahwa frase tetap memainkan peran penting dalam menyampaikan instruksi secara cepat, jelas, dan tanpa ambiguitas, terutama dalam kondisi kritis atau darurat. Analisis linguistik terapan memperlihatkan bahwa struktur kalimat dalam fraseologi bersifat formulaik dan imperatif, yang ditujukan untuk mengurangi risiko kesalahan komunikasi. Selain itu, pelatihan berkelanjutan bagi petugas ATC menjadi faktor penting untuk memastikan penggunaan fraseologi yang akurat dan kontekstual. Penyesuaian frase tetap dalam situasi luar biasa pun dilakukan tanpa mengorbankan kejelasan makna. Studi ini memperkuat pentingnya fraseologi sebagai bentuk komunikasi teknis yang mengedepankan keselamatan dalam sistem penerbangan global.

Abstract

Public Relations (PR) has a strategic role as a managerial function in university management to support the achievement of the vision and mission of higher education institutions. This article examines the position, function, and strategy of PR within the university organizational structure, as well as its role in facilitating two-way communication between the organization and the public. Using theoretical and practical approaches, the article highlights the importance of PR in building harmonious relationships, managing the institution's image, and communicating strategic policies. In addition, it discusses the challenges faced by PR in universities, such as the low attention of the leadership to the role of PR and the need to develop the competence of the PR team. Placing PR in a strategic structural position can improve communication effectiveness, strengthen relationships with internal and external publics, and support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This article emphasizes that PR is a managerial function that has a strategic role in supporting the success of university management. PR does not only carry out communication tasks, but is also involved in building an image, maintaining mutually beneficial relationships between the university and its public, and supporting the achievement of the institution's vision and mission.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the existing condition of the regional innovation system in East Belitung Regency and analyze the challenges and opportunities in managing regional potential and creating superior commodities. The qualitative method is the approach in this study using secondary data sourced from related policy documents, while primary data is obtained through interviews and focus group discussions with stakeholders in East Belitung Regency. Research variables use variables from the general framework that are conducive to innovation and business. The results showed that various policies and regulations that could encourage the growth of the business sector and new industries in the form of regulations related to licensing and providing business funding assistance for business actors. Policies that encourage business activities, such as tax incentives and industrial and trade incentives, do not yet exist in East Belitung Regency. Likewise, policies or regulations related to the development of regional innovation activities and other carrying capacity, also not yet regulated. The current condition of RIS has not yet been formed in East Belitung Regency. However, some variable indicators to support the effectiveness of RIS have been owned and have been relatively implemented, although they are still sporadic and sectoral in nature. This condition remains an important capital for the preparation and strengthening of East Belitung Regency RIS. Of course, this basic capital still needs strengthening and development to be able to sustain RIS that works effectively.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) analyzes research trends in Educational Tourism (2019–2024) by applying Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) framework. The study specifically investigates how the Educational Tourism approach supports the principles of Sustainable Tourism and its positioning in addressing the complex issue of Climate Change. Methodology: The research employed an SLR supported by bibliometric analysis and thematic synthesis of 447 Scopus-indexed articles. The ELT framework (comprising Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, and Active Experimentation) was used as a conceptual lens to test the balance of thematic focus across the literature. Main Findings: The analysis revealed a systemic imbalance within the literature. While the Abstract Conceptualization and Concrete Experience stages show strong documentation, the Reflective Observation is the most minimally discussed theme (65.55%). This gap indicates that current research tends to bypass the critical evaluation process, thus failing to methodologically validate the internal mechanism required to link direct experience to lasting sustainable behavior. This methodological weakness hinders the sector's ability to effectively tackle complex, large-scale issues like Climate Change and Environmental Protection. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes by being the first to systematically apply the ELT framework to diagnose the thematic maturity of Educational Tourism, explicitly identifying Reflective Observation as the most critical theoretical and methodological gap.

Abstract

The presence of digital technology in the community has had a significant impact on the patterns of life behavior of urban and rural communities. Pangandaran is a new district in West Java, still has many developing villages. In developing villages, there is also exposure to increasingly massive digital communication used by the community. The involvement of the millennial generation as part of the village community in the digital era can provide open and innovative development opportunities to develop the potential of the village-owned. Based on this information, the implementation of community service in the village of Purbahayu was carried out by choosing the theme of online media training for millennial generations in order to improve information literacy in development using lecture, discussion, and simulation methods through the demonstration learning model approach. The results of the implementation of community service show that the millennial generation in Purbahayu village has increased knowledge that is evident from the many questions surrounding the use and use of online media for the development of village potential. Whereas behaviorally, the millennial generation in Purbahayu village has been exposed to various business services and financial services by the millennial generation habits in urban areas.

Abstract

This paper investigates the adaptive tactics, expectations, and obstacles micro-entrepreneurs (UMKM) in coastal tourism zones of Indonesia encounter in adopting digital communication tools. This study intends to grasp how local and migrant business people experience digital transformation. The study takes a qualitative descriptive technique to find patterns of communication behaviour and readiness toward digitalization rather than suggesting a particular hypothesis. In-depth interviews and field observations with chosen informants representing different tourism-related micro-enterprises—including apparel stores, food vendors, and guesthouse operators—provided data. Participants were classified as local or migrant business owners. Emphasizing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, Miles and Huberman's methodology was used to thematically evaluate the data. The results show notable variations in digital adaptation between local and migrant business owners. While native players depend mostly on conventional word-of-mouth and direct consumer contacts, migrant entrepreneurs are more proactive and savvy in exploiting internet channels like Agoda or Instagram. Key expectations the report also underlines are the requirement of focused training, ongoing mentoring, and equitable access to digital infrastructure and government support. Among the obstacles found are low digital literacy, psychological resistance, information access restrictions, and policy execution structural inequities. Digital communication revolution among UMKM, this study finds, is not just about technological acceptance but also about cultural adaptation, psychological preparation, and institutional support—emphasizing the need of inclusive, community-based communication approaches.

Abstract

The development of tourism in Pangandaran has largely focused on coastal attractions, while the integration of local cultural potential, particularly traditional dance, into community-based tourism remains limited. This community service activity aims to strengthen the role of local dance performances and tourism village institutions in supporting Community-Based Tourism (CBT) through a collaborative cultural event. The Early-Year Dance Festival 2024 was organized by PT Jasa dan Kepariwisataan Jabar (Perseroda) in collaboration with the Pangandaran Tourism Village and involved seven dance studios across Pangandaran Regency. This study employs a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach based on CBT principles, emphasizing active community participation in the planning, implementation, and evaluation processes. The results demonstrate significant community involvement through the participation of local art groups, MSMEs, and youth performers. Beyond cultural preservation, the activity fostered inter-studio collaboration and generated a local economic multiplier effect, reflected in increased visitor engagement and local product consumption. This initiative illustrates the sustainable integration of culture and tourism and provides a practical model of regional corporate social responsibility.Pengembangan pariwisata di Pangandaran selama ini masih didominasi oleh wisata bahari, sementara pemanfaatan potensi budaya lokal, khususnya seni tari, dalam kerangka pariwisata berbasis masyarakat belum terintegrasi secara optimal. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat peran seni tari dan kelembagaan Kampung Wisata dalam mendukung penguatan Community-Based Tourism (CBT) melalui kolaborasi lintas sanggar. Pagelaran Tari Awal Tahun 2024 diselenggarakan oleh PT Jasa dan Kepariwisataan Jabar (Perseroda) bekerja sama dengan Kampung Wisata Pangandaran dengan melibatkan tujuh sanggar tari dari berbagai kecamatan di Kabupaten Pangandaran. Kegiatan ini menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) dengan prinsip CBT, yang menempatkan masyarakat sebagai pelaku utama dalam perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan partisipasi masyarakat melalui keterlibatan komunitas seni, pelaku UMKM, dan generasi muda. Selain berkontribusi terhadap pelestarian seni tari tradisional, kegiatan ini juga memperkuat jejaring kolaborasi lintas sanggar serta menghasilkan efek ekonomi lokal (multiplier effect) berupa peningkatan kunjungan wisatawan dan aktivitas ekonomi masyarakat. Kegiatan ini menjadi praktik nyata integrasi seni dan pariwisata berbasis masyarakat yang berkelanjutan serta contoh penerapan tanggung jawab sosial perusahaan di tingkat daerah.

Abstract

Digitalization in rural tourism villages is often reduced to social media promotion, emphasizing visual branding instead of data-based destination management. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to strengthen digital literacy in Bandasari Tourism Village by integrating Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, GPS Exchange Format (GPX) data, and storytelling as community-based destination management tools. Using a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, residents were positioned as active decision-makers. The program consisted of three stages: identifying tourism potential through participatory discussions, training residents to collect and interpret GPS–GPX spatial data, and developing narrative descriptions of tourism waypoints. Data were obtained through participatory observation, focus group discussions, and documentation. The results show a shift in the community’s perception of digitalization. Waypoints, initially viewed only as coordinates, evolved into narrative points representing local identity, enabling the creation of a digital story map. The community also began linking waypoints to local micro-businesses, strengthening the village’s economic network and reducing dependence on individuals with localized knowledge.Digitalisasi di desa wisata perdesaan sering kali direduksi hanya pada promosi melalui media sosial, dengan penekanan pada pencitraan visual dibandingkan pengelolaan destinasi berbasis data. Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat literasi digital di Desa Wisata Bandasari melalui integrasi teknologi Global Positioning System (GPS), data GPS Exchange Format (GPX), dan pendekatan storytelling sebagai alat pengelolaan destinasi berbasis komunitas. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), masyarakat diposisikan sebagai pengambil keputusan aktif. Program ini dilaksanakan melalui tiga tahap, yaitu: identifikasi potensi wisata melalui diskusi partisipatif, pelatihan masyarakat dalam pengumpulan dan pembacaan data spasial GPS–GPX, serta penyusunan deskripsi naratif pada titik-titik wisata (waypoints). Data diperoleh melalui observasi partisipatif, diskusi kelompok terarah, dan dokumentasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya pergeseran persepsi masyarakat terhadap digitalisasi. Waypoints yang semula dipahami hanya sebagai koordinat berkembang menjadi titik-titik naratif yang merepresentasikan identitas lokal, sehingga memungkinkan terbentuknya peta cerita digital (digital story map). Masyarakat juga mulai mengaitkan waypoints dengan usaha mikro lokal, yang memperkuat jejaring ekonomi desa serta mengurangi ketergantungan pada individu-individu dengan pengetahuan lokal yang bersifat personal.
