The research aims to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with applying good governance in this region, focusing on key areas such as accountability, transparency, legal frameworks, and information dissemination. Data collection was conducted through interviews with government officials, tourism industry stakeholders, and local communities to gain insights into their experiences and perspectives. The findings reveal that while there are significant obstacles, including weak inter-agency coordination and limited community participation, there are also considerable opportunities, such as leveraging public-private partnerships and fostering community-based tourism initiatives. The study concludes by offering recommendations to strengthen governance mechanisms, promote stakeholder collaboration, and enhance the overall sustainability of tourism in the Riau Islands, ensuring balanced benefits for the local economy, environment, and society.

Abstract

Mass tourism is an industrial sector that drives economic development significantly but causes many environmental and socio-cultural problems. This is clearly illustrated in Cimenyan, where land conversion for tourism development causes environmental damage and social problems. This research aims to analyze the entity of Udjo Ecoland as a tourism product and its elaboration in the framework of sustainable tourism as an effort to preserve the environment and culture. Qualitative descriptive analysis method was used to get a comprehensive and in-depth picture. Data were obtained from primary sources in the form of field observations and interviews and secondary data in the form of literature review. The results showed that Udjo Ecoland had all four components of tourism destinations (4A) and fulfilled the three pillars of sustainable tourism. The presence of Udjo Ecoland then gradually leads to efforts to preserve culture and environment by forming a new culture that elaborates noble values into a sustainable tourism framework and builds community awareness to create independence with an environmental perspective. Through sustainable tourism management, Udjo Ecoland has succeeded in making a positive contribution to environmental damage and social problems in Cimenyan as an effort to preserve culture and environment.

Abstract

The Citarum watershed is a source of livelihood for communities in 13 cities and regencies in West Java and Jakarta. However, the Citarum River is considered one of the most polluted rivers in the world, prompting the central and local governments to implement conservation programs. For Tarumajaya Village, the conservation of the Citarum watershed starts from the Situ Cisanti area accompanied by the development of a tourism village to support the Citarum Harum Program. However, the existing participation is only seen from the government side, and there is no significant community participation in terms of communication and others directly in the process of developing this tourism village. Thus, this study aims to identify community involvement in the development of tourism villages to support the restoration of the Citarum watershed in the Upper Citarum Region. This qualitative study was conducted in Tarumajaya Village, Kertasari Sub-district, Bandung Regency. Primary data were obtained through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews, while secondary data were obtained from policy documents. Data analysis included data reduction, presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. The research findings show that the development of creative tourism villages in Tarumajaya Village is carried out to support environmental preservation and has economic value for the welfare of the community, thus supporting public health. Tarumajaya Village community innovation products have economic value in tourism and show community involvement in supporting sustainable tourism development which is expected to improve public health.

Abstract

This paper investigates the adaptive tactics, expectations, and obstacles micro-entrepreneurs (UMKM) in coastal tourism zones of Indonesia encounter in adopting digital communication tools. This study intends to grasp how local and migrant business people experience digital transformation. The study takes a qualitative descriptive technique to find patterns of communication behaviour and readiness toward digitalization rather than suggesting a particular hypothesis. In-depth interviews and field observations with chosen informants representing different tourism-related micro-enterprises—including apparel stores, food vendors, and guesthouse operators—provided data. Participants were classified as local or migrant business owners. Emphasizing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, Miles and Huberman's methodology was used to thematically evaluate the data. The results show notable variations in digital adaptation between local and migrant business owners. While native players depend mostly on conventional word-of-mouth and direct consumer contacts, migrant entrepreneurs are more proactive and savvy in exploiting internet channels like Agoda or Instagram. Key expectations the report also underlines are the requirement of focused training, ongoing mentoring, and equitable access to digital infrastructure and government support. Among the obstacles found are low digital literacy, psychological resistance, information access restrictions, and policy execution structural inequities. Digital communication revolution among UMKM, this study finds, is not just about technological acceptance but also about cultural adaptation, psychological preparation, and institutional support—emphasizing the need of inclusive, community-based communication approaches.

Abstract

This study investigates the strategic role of fun walking as a recreational sport in enhancing tourism events and its direct contribution to culinary bazaar visitation. While traditionally perceived as recreational and a healthy lifestyle, fun walks were integrated into the Unpad Tourism Festival 2024 to support its culinary bazaar activities, offering a novel approach to event management. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining observations and literature studies with a survey of 47 fun walk participants, data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. Findings from this investigation reveal that fun walk participants significantly contributed to both the increase in visitor numbers and extended visit duration at the culinary bazaar. Furthermore, the innovative packaging of fun walk activities, particularly through the incorporation of tour guides, significantly enhanced the quality of the participant experience, leading to a measurable increase in overall event visitor satisfaction. This study confirms that an interactive experience, seamlessly blending sports, entertainment, and targeted tourism promotion, provides actionable insights for committee. The results underscore the critical importance of integrating recreational sports activities with the broader objective of promoting cultural, culinary, and urban tourism attractions, offering a powerful model for enhancing event success and visitor engagement in future tourism initiatives.

Abstract

Developing sustainable tourism necessitates innovative approaches that integrate environmental conservation, community engagement, and effective knowledge transfer. This study investigates the power of storytelling and knowledge management as catalysts for social transformation within educational tourism along Indonesia's highly polluted Citarum River. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research collected quantitative data from 79 university students via questionnaires assessing their knowledge and perceptions of the Citarum River and sustainable tourism. Qualitative data came from a content analysis of "Menjaga Citarum" (Preserving Citarum) educational materials, which wove together historical narratives, ecological facts, and local cultural values. The findings reveal that storytelling, when combined with direct environmental action and participatory learning, significantly boosts students' environmental awareness and emotional engagement. Participants showed a greater understanding of pollution issues and a stronger commitment to sustainable behavior, highlighting the importance of community-based knowledge systems. This study demonstrates how local narratives and experiential learning can foster ecological responsibility and social engagement, offering practical guidance for impactful educational tourism programs.
