Abstract

Stunting cases in Girimukti village, North Sumedang sub-district, were 75 stunted toddlers (16.74%). Stunting in toddlers can be caused by the mother of toddlers having inadequate knowledge about feeding toddlers. One indirect factor that influences the incidence of stunting in children under five is the nutritional knowledge of mothers of toddlers. The study aimed to determine the effect of animated video media-based education on mothers' knowledge about food sources of animal protein to prevent stunting in toddlers. This study used a pre-experimental design and one group pre-test and post-test design. The research was conducted in July 2023, in Girimukti Village. The total sample was 46 mothers under five, consisting of 22 mothers with children under five with normal nutritional status and 24 mothers with children under five with stunting who lived in Girimukti Village. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used a knowledge questionnaire tested for validity and reliability and educational media in the form of animated videos and power points. The bivariate analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The result showed an increase in the average knowledge of mothers after being exposed to education using video-animated media; the average value of mother's knowledge during the pre-test was 70.24, and post-test was 79.04. The Wilcoxon signed rank test result is p-value<0.001 (p ≤ 0.05). The study concluded that there was an effect of video media-based education on increasing mother's knowledge about food sources of animal protein to prevent stunting in toddlers. Video-based media can be considered for use by health workers in nutrition education activities.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate the efficacy of legal education in enhancing individuals' comprehension of consumer rights and to develop strategies to equip people with the tools to address unfair business practices. In this context, consumer rights encompass a range of aspects that are vital for the protection of individuals engaged in trade and consumption activities. In light of the fact that a considerable proportion of the population remains inadequately informed about their rights, particularly in the context of unfair business practices, the provision of legal education is of paramount importance. This study employs a qualitative methodology to examine individuals' experiences and perspectives on consumer rights, underscoring the significance of legal education in enhancing people's comprehension of consumer rights. Legal education ought to be pursued in a sustainable manner, with the active involvement of diverse stakeholders, including governmental bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and local communities. To enhance the efficacy of legal education, it is essential to utilise digital technology as a conduit for information dissemination.

Abstract

The ongoing global pandemic has precipitated the rapid adoption of telemedicine as an alternative means of delivering healthcare, particularly with a view to reducing direct contact between patients and medical personnel. The objective of this study is to examine the influence of telemedicine on patient health outcomes during the ongoing pandemic through a comprehensive review and meta-analysis of pertinent literature. A qualitative research methodology was employed to analyse 20 articles selected based on pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that telemedicine has a favourable impact on enhancing healthcare accessibility, time efficiency and cost reduction, despite challenges pertaining to technological constraints and patient digital proficiency. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers in optimising the future implementation of telemedicine.

Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a significant global health problem, with a high prevalence in developing countries, including Indonesia, and can adversely affect physical, mental health, and academic performance. This study aims to analyze the role of families in preventing anemia in adolescent girls through health education and evaluate the effectiveness of family-based interventions. The method used was a systematic literature review by collecting data from various relevant scientific articles published in the last 10 years. The results showed that family involvement, especially mothers, in educating about the importance of consuming iron-rich foods and monitoring iron supplements proved effective in reducing the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls. Intervention programs that involve families in nutrition education also show increased awareness and changes in healthier eating habits. However, challenges such as economic limitations, culture, and parents' education level are still barriers that need to be overcome. The implication of this study is the need to develop more comprehensive and family-based anemia prevention programs, as well as policies that support access to nutritious foods and iron supplements. Collaboration between the health, education and government sectors is essential to create a supportive environment for sustainable anemia prevention efforts.

Abstract

Background: Mental health issues, nutritional status, physical activity, and smoking behavior are among the most serious health problems among school-aged children, and they are closely linked to health-related behaviors. Literacy skills significantly influence these behaviors at this age; however, health literacy often receives insufficient attention from the government for this age group.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive overview of health asset profiles and health literacy among elementary school-aged children. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 431 sixth-grade students from the Sumedang district, recruited through a cluster sampling method. Various research instruments were employed, including the Family Affluence Scale (FAS III),  Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children (HBSC), European Health Literacy Scale (HLS-EU), and the Newest Vital Sign (NVS) survey. Data were self-reported by participants, and BMI measurements were also collected. The Chi-square test was employed for statistical analysis.  Results: The results revealed notable variations across the assessed health asset profile sub-variables. Functional health literacy was significantly associated with self-esteem (p<0.001), student behavior (p=0.010), wake-up time (p<0.001), and smoking habit (p<0.001). In contrast, no significant associations were found with family affluence (p=0.868), BMI (p=0.809), physical activity (p=0.087), or bedtime (p=0.092). Gender-based comparisons revealed significant differences between boys and girls in self-esteem (p=0.042), BMI (p<0.001), physical activity (p<0.001), bedtime (p=0.004), wake-up time (p=0.005), and smoking behavior (p=0.001).  Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of health literacy in school-aged children, highlighting variations across health-related behaviors and asset profiles. Significant gender disparities were found in self-esteem, nutritional status, physical activity, bedtime, wake-up time, and smoking behavior. These findings highlight the importance of developing gender-sensitive health promotion strategies to enhance health literacy and promote healthy behaviors from early ages.

Abstract

Conveying bad news in the medical field, can present a challenging scenario as it tends to evoke emotional responses such as sadness, anxiety, and anger in the recipients. Essentially, this communication scenario holds the potential to impact the recipient, aligning with the concept of perlocutionary speech acts. Research into perlocutionary speech acts in the context of delivering adverse news within medical communication has not been extensively explored. This study aims to provide an overview of perlocutionary speech acts observed in delivering bad news within a medical context, as depicted in The Resident series. Employing a qualitative research design, this study applied a pragmatic approach for data analysis. The dataset for this study comprises the dialogues of doctors in 11 distinct contexts involving the communication of bad news in The Resident series. The results of the study showed that perlocutionary speech acts appeared in the context of delivering bad news, including the act of asking for confirmation, calming, explaining, informing, suggesting, and convincing. Additionally, these speech acts incite various emotional responses in the recipients, including sadness, anger, self-blame, panic, surprise, and calm. The outcomes of this research serve as a valuable reference for enhancing communication skills and pragmatic competence among healthcare professionals when confronted with the task of conveying bad news.
