Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the ability of visual imagery in learning mathematics, especially the material of the system of linear equations of two variables in class VIII students of SMP Bruder Pontianak. The type of research used was descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII of Bruder Junior High School Pontianak who were selected by purposive sampling. Data collection through tests and interviews. The way to determine the ability of visual imagery is students by looking at indicators, namely receiving information, transforming and evaluating. The results of the research conducted show that the grouping of mathematical abilities is classified as high with a total of 2 students out of 30 by 6.67%, a group classified as medium with a total of 2 students out of 30 by 6.67% and a group that is in the low category as many as 26 students out of 30 by 86.66%. Thus, it can be concluded that students' visual imagery ability has not been said to be good or implemented when used in current mathematics learning in class VIII of Bruder Pontianak Junior High School.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is so that second semester students who take linear algebra courses are able to analyze their visualization understanding in solving problems presented with real life. Specifically we want to know: 1) how they understand the problem; 2) how to visualize the problem; 3) how they get the conclusion from their visualization; 4) how it impacts the course itself on the moodle e-learning platform. The type of research used is qualitative with descriptive-explorative methods, namely exploring all things that exist in the implementation of learning, processing problems and their answer steps, visualizing algebra, e-learning platforms, and exploring the results of surveys and interviews of students. The subjects in this study were all students who took elementary linear algebra courses in classes A1, A2, and B totaling 81 students who were gathered in one lecture class together in Building B of Tanjungpura University. Data from written tests, surveys, questionnaires, and responses were then explored descriptively to get conclusions in accordance with the problem formulation. Based on the analysis of several scientific journals on mathematical visual thinking skills in solving mathematical problems, visualization can improve the development of thinking, mathematical understanding from non-concrete to concrete. According to several journal sources reviewed, there are several ways to solve problems by implementing mathematics learning programs that increase learners' understanding and responsiveness when solving problems including: open minds approach, meansends learning, collaborative learning, trade-a-problems learning, problem and project based learning, visual thinking learning, RME, CTL, and eliminatin aplikation learning.

Abstract

Purpose: Prospective elementary teachers often experience difficulty connecting visual representations with conceptual understanding, resulting in fragmented reasoning about geometric properties. This study aims to examine pre-service teachers’ geometric reasoning using the VLOKS model, with a specific focus on the visual and literal dimensions that frequently hinder the transition from perceptual recognition to conceptual comprehension. Method: A descriptive qualitative design was implemented involving 199 students from the Primary Teacher Education Program at Universitas Tanjungpura. Data were collected through a 12-item diagnostic test, semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and focus group discussions. Thematic analysis was conducted through data reduction, display, and verification, supported by triangulation of methods and sources to ensure credibility in interpreting students’ visual, literal, operational, correlational, and spatial reasoning processes. Findings: The study found that students’ visual reasoning was largely limited to surface-level recognition of shapes, with little progression toward analytical interpretation. Literal reasoning showed substantial difficulty, particularly in translating verbal descriptions into accurate geometric representations. While operational skills appeared moderately developed, correlational reasoning and spatial visualization were relatively weak, indicating that students struggled to integrate multiple geometric ideas into coherent conceptual structures. Significance: The results underscore that pre-service teachers’ geometric reasoning remains predominantly visual and descriptive, lacking depth in relational and representational understanding. The VLOKS model offers a systematic framework for diagnosing these reasoning gaps and guiding pedagogical interventions. Strengthening the visual and literal dimensions through multi-representational learning, contextual visualization, and reflective reasoning can enhance conceptual understanding and improve teacher readiness in geometry instruction

Abstract

Cultivating Green Entrepreneurs: A Project-Based Learning Module to Foster Environmental Awareness and Entrepreneurship in Primary School. Objectives: This research and development aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective project module product for teaching entrepreneurship and raising environmental awareness, which is crucial for grade V students. This study investigated how a project-based learning module can foster environmental awareness and entrepreneurship character among fifth-grade students. Methods: This study was implemented at Toho State Elementary School, a rural school in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, facing environmental and economic sustainability challenges. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method by adopting the ADDIE model. The module was to involve students in project activities that combine environmental care with opportunities to earn a living, in line with the local wisdom of the Dayak tribe in Toho. The module was validated by six experts in media, module design, and materials before field testing and implementation with teachers and students at SD Negeri 10 Toho. Participants included students, teachers, and expert validators involved in module testing. Environmental and entrepreneurship character were assessed using observation rubrics and pre–posttest. The practicality aspect of this module was measured through a survey of teachers and students; meanwhile, the effectiveness was assessed using Effect Size. Findings: Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The study found that the project module was feasible based on the expertise assessment. From the fifth graders' classroom teacher's perspective, the module had met 87.5 of % items of practicality and was seen as handy and easy to implement (practical). The findings indicate that the module is a valid and practical tool for integrating sustainability values into primary education. The effectiveness of the implementation of the project module shows that the N-Gain score reaches 55.27% indicating a moderate effect according to Hake’s criteria. Conclusion: The project module is suitable for teaching environmental awareness and entrepreneurship to fifth graders, as it has been validated and practical, though it still needs adjustments to improve its effectiveness. Keywords: project module, environmental care, entrepreneurship, sustainable lifestyle.
