Abstract

Formative assessment is often neglected in learning. This study investigates the perception of madrasah diniyah teachers on the planned implementation of the recitation program as part of a formative evaluation in the form of feedback. Twenty madrasah diniyah teachers were asked to respond to a questionnaire that covered three aspects, namely planning, learning outcomes, and teacher support in the post-training. The findings show that teachers have an open view of the implementation of recitation and believe that it can provide significant benefits for student learning outcomes. This paper provides empirical insight into teacher perceptions and provides suggestions for expanding teacher understanding and competence in utilizing recitation programs as an integral element of recitation learning methods and evaluations.

Abstract

In the academic setting, teachers and school principals are often faced with the problem of identifying and developing strategies to strengthen the atmosphere of religious moderation. Unfortunately, resources for training and support are scarce. Our study presents the design and assessment of a religious moderation workshop utilizing the problem-based discussion method, supported by Ice Berg and U theory perspective analysis. This two-session workshop aims to bolster religious moderation among school personnel. During the initial session, attendees were presented with strategies to empower religious moderation and state defense. In the subsequent meeting, attendees were encouraged to engage in problem-solving exercises focused on acts and behaviors of intolerance. Not to mention, the educators and administrators have acquired content and pedagogical expertise regarding religious moderation and state defense, which can be applied in classroom and school settings. Additionally, participants expressed a positive belief that the training effectively exemplified the integration of character-building subject matter, religious moderation, state defense, and instructional strategies. As a result, the workshop for teachers and school principals was deemed successful and effective.

Abstract

Character education tended to be co-opted by religious values through numerous conceptual and practical approaches. This study underscored the co-optation of religion in the character education process as applied at an Islamic boarding school. The didactic stages were trapped to articulate religious-based character only; thus, the complex meanings of character were narrowed by overlooking other potential principles. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation using the institution’s curriculum design. The findings indicated that leaders and teachers had a significant role in co-opting religious values for conceptualizing the schooling program. This was revealed in the curriculum content encompassing dominant spiritual standards. Equally, students' understanding of character appeared to be constructed by devout teachings. A slight character interpretation was exposed by religious perspectives co-opted by leaders, teachers, and curriculum. Therefore, the slender construal of character was disposed disregarding further principles having valuable points. This study recommended the need for stakeholder consideration, especially educational institutions, and Islamic boarding schools, for accommodating other values in shaping the pupils’ character, thus they were capable to compete with increasingly constricted global changes dynamically.

Abstract

Since the reformation era, the curriculum of Islamic Education in public universities has gone through such three modifications as Islamic education curriculum of 2000, 2002, and 2013. The objective of this research is to analyze the construction of the three kinds of the curriculum as well as the changing of the paradigm related to them comparatively. The paradigm of Islamic education curriculum 2000 was the continuity of the curriculum in the New Order era which was purely oriented to normative Islamic concepts (aqidah, syari’at, akhlak). In the opposite, Curriculum 2002 indicated many changes in its paradigm and material. Religion was not only a set of norms, but it also existed in reality and it was dynamic in responding the development of human being. Meanwhile, curriculum 2013 tried to emphasize the scientific learning approach by activating the students in building their knowledge. In other words, the learning activity is activity base-oriented, not content base-oriented.

Abstract

The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Philosophy, edited by Khaled El-Rouayheb and Sabine Schmidtke, provides a comprehensive study of Islamic philosophy from the 9th to the 20th century, countering the narrative of stagnation after the 12th century. Utilizing a text- and context-based approach, the volume highlights the contributions of classical philosophers such as Al-Farabi, Avicenna, and Averroes, as well as the innovations of post-classical thinkers like Jalāl al-Dīn al-Dawānī and Mīr Dāmād, who merged logic, theology, and mysticism. It explores the interconnectedness of philosophy, theology, and mystical thought, particularly through the concept of wahdat al-wujud in metaphysics. Additionally, the book examines the impact of colonialism and the relationship between Islamic philosophy and modernity, showcasing figures like Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida, who sought to integrate Islamic and Western philosophical traditions. This handbook asserts Islamic philosophy as a vibrant and evolving intellectual legacy, making it an essential resource for scholars, students, and researchers interested in its significance within global philosophical discourse.

Abstract

The freedom to embrace a religion and belief and worshiping are the rights of each citizen protected by the constitution, including the Dhimmi minority, as the state authorities have issued a Joint Regulation Number 8 and 9 of 2006 on the Guideline of Empowering the Forum of Religious Harmony and Constructing Worship House. Ironically, instead of giving the sense of justice for all society elements, regulations are deemed to limit the activity of worshiping of dhimmi minority. In realizing the equal rights to worship and constructing the house of worship for the Dhimmi minority, the Regulation should be submitted to the Supreme Court to undergo juridical review. The suggestions utilized to review several articles are considered as discriminating us the society's actualization on the government’s product of law. This piece of writing explored the problems of constructing the house of worshiping the context of the rights to worship for dhimmi minority through the Quran's perspective. The conception of the Qur'an generated is reflected in the idea of the jurisprudence of human rights, which strives for establishing the equality of rights to worship for citizens. The jurisprudence of human rights is expected to raise social awareness to appreciate and respect the worshiping activities of dhimmi minority, reducing the retention of inter-religious violence, and creating a harmonious life based on the principles of Islamic law in Maqasid al-Syariah.

Abstract

This research discusses the Crusades that occurred in the Middle Ages as a series of conflicts between the Christian world of Europe and the Islamic world. The main focus of the research is to analyze the causes, stages, and impacts of the Crusades on both civilizations. The causes of the Crusades involve a combination of religious, political, and economic factors, with the main impetus being the desire to seize Jerusalem from Muslim control. The stages of the Crusades consist of several waves of battles that lasted for more than two centuries, each with different dynamics and outcomes. The impact of the Crusades on the Islamic world includes territorial losses, the resurgence of jihadist spirit, and advancements in military science and technology. Meanwhile, the Western world experienced significant changes in political, trade, and scientific thought aspects, which also contributed to the emergence of the Renaissance. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between Islamic and Western civilizations, as well as the impact of the Crusades on the development of world history.

Abstract

This article is a review of the book titled "Intellectuals In The Modern Islamic World: Transmission, Transformation, Communication", edited by Stephane A. Dudoignon, Komatsu Hisao, and Kosugi Yasushi. The book presents an in-depth exploration of the history and typology of intellectuals in the Islamic world during the modern and contemporary periods, from the late 19th century to the present day. The book consists of two main parts. The first part focuses on the journal al-Manar, which was published between 1898 and 1935 and read by a diverse audience across the Islamic world. It inspired the imagination and arguments of local intellectuals in the first half of the twentieth century. The second part focuses on the formation, transmission, and transformation of learning and authority, from the Middle East to Central and South Asia, throughout the twentieth century. Thus, the book makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the dynamics of Islamic thought and the role of intellectuals in responding to the challenges of modernity
