Abstract

This study aims to identify the urgency of innovation in Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in guiding prospective teachers to have moderate characters. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were taken using observation techniques and documentation studies. The data were analyzed in three stages consisting of data reduction, data display and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that innovation in learning models of project-based learning in integrating the values of religious moderation is very important because it can meet the demands of learning that accommodates 21st century competencies, namely communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills in solving problems. In addition, prospective teachers today require Moral Knowing as a basis in making a decision, including in the context of religious moderation. This study has implications for the importance of innovating in learning to meet the competencies of prospective teachers with moderate characters. Therefore, teachers, lecturers or stakeholders need to continue to encourage project-based learning models through a Moral Knowing approach, especially in integrating moderation values. This research needs to continue to be developed in order to integrate moderate character values in prospective teachers

Abstract

The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Philosophy, edited by Khaled El-Rouayheb and Sabine Schmidtke, provides a comprehensive study of Islamic philosophy from the 9th to the 20th century, countering the narrative of stagnation after the 12th century. Utilizing a text- and context-based approach, the volume highlights the contributions of classical philosophers such as Al-Farabi, Avicenna, and Averroes, as well as the innovations of post-classical thinkers like Jalāl al-Dīn al-Dawānī and Mīr Dāmād, who merged logic, theology, and mysticism. It explores the interconnectedness of philosophy, theology, and mystical thought, particularly through the concept of wahdat al-wujud in metaphysics. Additionally, the book examines the impact of colonialism and the relationship between Islamic philosophy and modernity, showcasing figures like Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida, who sought to integrate Islamic and Western philosophical traditions. This handbook asserts Islamic philosophy as a vibrant and evolving intellectual legacy, making it an essential resource for scholars, students, and researchers interested in its significance within global philosophical discourse.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the closure of almost all learning processes in Islamic boarding schools. Only some Islamic boarding schools have succeeded in modifying learning methods, one of which is the Darul Faqih Indonesian Islamic Boarding School located in Malang Regency, Indonesia. This community service aims to support efforts to strengthen the digitalisation of Darul Faqih Indonesian Islamic boarding school and direct the development of hybrid Islamic boarding schools after the Covid-19 pandemic. This community service activity consists of two phases. First, at the beginning of the semester, teachers are given training to strengthen the use of learning management systems and mobile apps. In the second phase, the teacher was invited back to conduct a focus group discussion at the end of the implementation. At the end of this service activity, impact measurements were also carried out from a teacher's perspective. A total of 58 teachers participated in this activity. Less than half of teachers have a preference for mixed learning. However, they have high self-efficacy in implementing effective learning to support the implementation of hybrid pesantren. Constraints during mixed learning are appropriate technological and pedagogical support. Despite some challenges, teachers have so far been able to adapt to various online learning methods. Most agree that blended learning can be next as the next main effort towards hybrid pesantren.[Pandemi Covid-19 berdampak pada penutupan hampir semua proses pembelajaran di pondok pesantren.

Abstract

Social skills are essential to 21st-century education, but many elementary school students in Indonesia still demonstrate low social skills due to the dominance of conventional teacher-centered learning approaches. This study aims to analyze the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) on improving elementary school students' social skills and identify the dimensions of social skills that are most influenced by this approach. The study used a quasi-experimental design involving 80 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group (PjBL) and a control group (conventional learning). The measurement instrument was a social skills test covering six dimensions: cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, empathy, decision-making, and leadership. Data analysis was conducted using t-tests after validity, reliability, normality, and homogeneity were confirmed. The results showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) between the two groups in all social skill dimensions, with the experimental group showing higher average scores. The dimensions of empathy and leadership showed the highest increases. These findings support social constructivist theory and strengthen the argument that collaborative, contextual learning can effectively develop students' social competencies. The implications of this study include the need for systematic adoption of PjBL in elementary schools as a strategy to support character-building and holistic learning in line with national curriculum requirements and 21st-century social needs.

Abstract

Radicalism remains a latent ideology capable of growing and developing in various settings,  including higher education institutions. This study explores the phenomenon of radicalization  among University students, emphasizing the infiltration of radical ideologies and the role of  Islamic education lecturers in countering this trend. The research employs a qualitative approach,  utilizing in-depth interviews conducted over three months with lecturers from seven universities in  East Java, Indonesia. The findings reveal that while numerous studies have labeled universities as  breeding grounds for radicalism, the situation in the field indicates a more nuanced reality.  Radicalization on campuses persists, yet efforts to counteract it through religious and national  identity revitalization have been effective. Islamic education lecturers play a critical role in  fostering religious moderation, promoting Islam Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin, and restructuring campus  mosques to prevent infiltration by radical preachers. This study underscores the importance of  strengthening national and religious awareness in university settings to mitigate the spread of  radicalism. It also highlights the need for institutional policies and community engagement to  sustain deradicalization efforts. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on counter radicalization in higher education and offer practical implications for educational institutions and  policymakers in fostering inclusive and tolerant academic environments.

Abstract

Observation skills and curiosity are crucial for elementary students’ learning, but remain underdeveloped in Indonesia, where PISA (2021) reported that 56% of students struggle to identify key information in texts. This quasi-experimental study involved 80 fourth-grade students, divided into two groups: experimental and control. Over four weeks, the experimental group received lessons that integrated Dual Coding (text-image pairing and color-coded diagrams) and Chunking (breaking content into small, thematic units)—a 25-item, validated test measured both skills. Results from independent t-tests showed significant improvements (p < 0.05) across all indicators, with an average score increase of 18% in the experimental group. These findings confirm that structured multimodal strategies enhance visual-verbal processing, analytical thinking, and exploratory motivation. Practically, the study suggests that primary school curricula should incorporate cognitively ergonomic techniques to foster deeper engagement and higher-order thinking, offering a replicable model for inclusive and practical instructional design. Keywords: cognitive ergonomics, dual coding, chunking, observation skills, curiosity

Abstract

Questions about the origins of humanity are challenging and motivating inquiries that can serve as a tool to encourage students to think critically. That context can also be provided to students when discussing the integration of science and religion. In this study, we measured the effectiveness of science and religion integration training specifically for Muslim students. This training intervention consists of three seminars, namely the integration of science and Islam methods, the context of human origins, and its writing, each developed by a mixed team of science and religion experts. By combining training observations and reflective essays, this study evaluates the training approach and how the program influences students' opinions/beliefs about the compatibility of science and religion. Specifically, this study explores students' ability to engage in critical thinking and express themselves when faced with explanations of science and religion simultaneously. As a result, there was a change in the beliefs of the students before and after the training, where the students shifted their opinions towards a more reconciliatory stance. However, the presence of a small number of students who are moving in opposite directions encourages educators to explore various methodologies for integrating science and religion that are more appropriate. Overall, this research contributes to the fundamental understanding of how students interpret science and religion, as well as the pedagogical approaches that can be used to navigate their interpretations from conflict to integration.
