Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the Total Physical Response (TPR) method in mastering vocabulary among students at MI Ihyaul Ulum Gresik. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a control group pre-test and post-test approach. The study Subject consists of 20 students from Class A as the experimental group and 36 students from Class B as the control group. The data collection techniques used in this study include observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques employed consist of descriptive and inferential analysis. The research results indicate that before the treatment (pretest), the average vocabulary mastery score of students in the experimental class was 67.65, while in the control class, it was recorded at 67.05. After applying the Total Physical Response method, the average score in the experimental class increased to 85.35. Inferential analysis revealed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results, with a significance value (p-value) of 0.000 < 0.05. This study proves that the Total Physical Response method is effective in improving vocabulary mastery among fifth-grade students at MI Ihyaul Ulum Gresik.

Abstract

In the digital era, Arabic language education faces challenges in remaining relevant and engaging for digital-native learners. One promising solution is the integration of technologies such as ChatGPT and gamification into the learning process. This study investigates the effectiveness of these tools in improving Qira'ah (reading) and Kitabah (writing) skills among eighth-grade students at Islamic Secondary School Alif Laam Miim Surabaya. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. The study involved 30 students selected from a population of 60. Data collection methods included classroom observation, teacher and student interviews, and performance-based tests in reading and writing. Students completed tasks involving writing and reading simple sentences on the theme of “sports,” focusing on correct structure, pronunciation, and intonation. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including paired sample t-tests. The results revealed a significant improvement in student performance, reading scores increased from 55.5 to 84.1 and writing from 53.5 to 83.4 (p < 0.001). ChatGPT contributed to improved grammatical accuracy and vocabulary development, while gamified platforms like Quizizz and Kahoot! enhanced student motivation and engagement. This study concludes that the integration of ChatGPT and gamification offers a practical, modern approach to Arabic instruction. It aligns with learners’ digital tendencies and encourages active, autonomous language use, suggesting a valuable model for 21st-century school education.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has significantly transformed education, including the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language. Arabic holds both academic and religious importance and requires mastery of four language skills (maharah), with speaking (maharah kalam) being one of the most challenging. This article presents the analysis of the use of ChatGPT as an adaptive learning medium to improve the speaking skills of tenth-grade students at Sekolah Indonesia Jeddah. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with an analytical perspective, the data were collected through classroom observation and semi structured interviews with Arabic language teachers and selected students’ outputs. The findings indicated that ChatGPT can serve as an interactive tool that allows students to practice dialogues, receive instant feedback, and build motivation to learn outside classroom hours. The analysis showed that while ChatGPT effectively supports students’ speaking proficiency, its optimal use depends on clear learning objectives, well designed conversation themes, and continuous teacher guidance. Limitations remain, such as occasional linguistic inaccuracies, lack of nonverbal elements, and the risk of student dependency. Therefore, teachers played a crucial role in guiding, monitoring, and motivating students to ensure effective use of ChatGPT. Overall, ChatGPT can be positioned as a complementary medium that enriches students’ learning experiences and supports the development of maharah kalam, while also contributing to innovation in Arabic language education in the digital era.
