Abstract

This study aimed to develop a flipbook-based e-module that integrates Ketangerangan local wisdom to enhance cultural education for Phase A elementary students in Tangerang Regency. The Ketangerangan culture encompasses various traditional values, including egalitarian language (basa egaliter), etiquette (tatakrama), traditional games, and local arts. Utilizing the 4-D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), the research focused on designing an engaging and pedagogically sound digital module. Practicality testing was conducted with 20 students and 20 teachers in Kelapa Dua District using structured questionnaires. Results showed high practicality scores—86.50% from students and 93.07% from teachers—placing the e-module in the “very practical” category. Students found the module easy to use and effective for understanding cultural material, while teachers praised its instructional quality and technical usability. The flipbook format successfully bridged the gap between technology and tradition, offering an innovative educational tool for cultural preservation and identity development. The study demonstrates that digital media, when thoughtfully designed and culturally contextualized, can revitalize local wisdom education and support its sustainable transmission to younger generations

Abstract

Abstract. Anggraini E, Istiqomah H, Irsan C, Herlinda S, Muslim A, Suwandi S. 2025. Comparative biology of bagworm larvae (Metisa plana) fed on oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and malabar melastome (Melastoma malabathricum). Asian J Agric 9: 472-481. Metisa plana Walker, 1883 (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) is a significant defoliator in oil palm plantations, and the weed Melastoma malabathricum L. (malabar melastome) is believed to act as an alternative host, potentially maintaining pest numbers. This study assessed the comparative biology of M. plana larvae raised individually on oil palm and malabar melastome leaves in a laboratory setting. Recently emerged larvae (n?=?10 per treatment) were observed for leaf area consumption, larval bag form, developmental time, and survival rates. The results indicated that larvae consuming malabar melastome had a substantially greater leaf area consumption during instars 1-3 (up to 11.44?±?0.96?cm²) compared to those fed on oil palm (8.91?±?0.58?cm²; p?<?0.05), with the differences becoming non-significant from the 4th instar forward. The total duration of larval development was roughly 109 days on Malabar melastome and 103 days on oil palm, with no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05), while survival rates above 80% on both hosts. The length of larval bags exhibited substantial variation in the early instars (p < 0.01), but remained comparable in subsequent stages, and pupal weight was not assessed. The findings affirm that M. malabathricum serves as an appropriate alternate host for M. plana, underscoring the necessity for integrated weed management to avert malabar melastome from functioning as a reservoir, thereby enhancing the efficacy of pest management measures in oil palm ecosystems.

Abstract

Education systems across countries are shaped by underlying philosophical foundations that guide policy formulation, curriculum design, learning processes, and teacher professionalism. This study aims to compare the philosophical foundations of education in Finland and Indonesia by examining their ontological, epistemological, and axiological principles. Using a qualitative-comparative design, data were analyzed through document review of official educational policies, curriculum frameworks, and recent scholarly studies. The findings show that Finland’s education system is rooted in humanism, constructivism, and egalitarianism, which prioritize learner autonomy, trust-based professionalism, and equity. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s educational philosophy integrates perennialism, progressivism, and socio-religious values, leading to an emphasis on character education, national identity, and standardized learning. These philosophical orientations contribute to differences in curriculum organization, assessment practices, and teacher governance. The study concludes that Indonesia can strengthen its system by adopting Finland’s trust-based professionalism and reduced assessment pressure while still maintaining local philosophical values.

Abstract

Abstract. Anggraini E, Purba H, Herlinda S, Susilawati, Lau WH, Arinafril A. 2026. Identification and inventory of bagworms on oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) in Sungai Rengit Village, Banyuasin District, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Asian J Agric 10 (1): g100128. https://doi.org/10.13057/asianjagric/g100128. Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) is one of Indonesia’s most important plantation commodities and a major contributor to the national economy. However, productivity is often constrained by pest infestations, particularly bagworms (Lepidoptera: Psychidae), which damage palm fronds and reduce photosynthetic capacity. This study aimed to identify bagworm species and quantify their abundance and infestation intensity in oil palm plantations in Sungai Rengit Village, Banyuasin District, South Sumatra, to provide baseline information supporting the development of appropriate integrated pest management strategies. Field observations were conducted using a diagonal sampling method across five plots, with 20 trees observed per plot (100 trees in total). Bagworms were collected manually and identified based on morphological characteristics. Four species were recorded: Pteroma sp., Metisa plana, Pteroma pendula, and Mahasena corbetti. Pteroma sp. was the dominant species (912 individuals), whereas M. corbetti had the lowest abundance (137 individuals). The overall mean infestation intensity across the five plots was 62%, calculated using the Townsend-Heuberger index, indicating severe foliar damage. Higher infestation levels were observed in edge plots and areas exposed to greater sunlight. These findings indicate a high level of bagworm infestation in the study area and variation in abundance across plots, possibly influenced by microenvironmental factors. This study provides baseline information on bagworm species composition, abundance, and infestation intensity, which is important to support the implementation of appropriate integrated pest management strategies in oil palm plantations.
