Abstract

The quality of artificial diets is important to produce high quality cultures of S. frugiperda. The research aimed to determine the effect of artificial diets based on wild plants on the growth and development of Spodoptera frugiperda. The plants used for enriching artificial diets were Zea mays (control), Ipomoea aquatic, Ipomoea reptans, Amaranthus hybridus, Morus rubra, Brachiaria mutica, and Setaria sphacelata. The results showed that S. frugiperda larvae consuming artificial diets enriched with A. hybridus, Z. mays, I. reptans, and I. aquatic leaves had higher body weight, lower larval mortality and abnormal pupae compared to those of B. mutica, S. sphacelata and M. rubra leaves. The adult females from larvae-consuming diets enriched with A. hybridus, Z. mays, I. reptans, I. aquatica, and S. sphacelata leaves had higher fecundity compared to those of other diets. However, diet enriched with S. sphacelata leaves caused higher larval mortality. Thus, the more suitable diets to increase the larval growth and survival, and adult emergence and fecundity were the diets enriched with wild host plants (A. hybridus, I. reptans, and I. aquatic leaves). Using weed or wild host plant leaves to produce artificial diets is feasible for mass-rearing S. frugiperda.

Abstract

This research discusses the conception of the philosophy of idealism and its implementation in the context of learning in elementary schools. The philosophy of idealism includes the view that world reality is formed by ideas and thoughts, placing emphasis on spiritual values and abstract concepts. The main aim of this research is to understand how the philosophical conception of idealism is reflected in learning strategies and methods in the elementary school environment. The research method used is literature study and content analysis to explore the concept of idealism in elementary school learning. The research results show that the idealistic conception is reflected in a learning approach that emphasizes the development of moral values, creativity, and understanding abstract concepts. Teachers in elementary schools are expected to be facilitators in encouraging students' critical and reflective thinking and guiding them towards a deeper understanding of life values. Apart from that, this research also highlights the challenges and opportunities in applying the concept of idealism in learning in elementary schools. This challenge involves integrating abstract concepts into a curriculum that sometimes focuses on purely cognitive aspects. However, the opportunities involve the potential to create learning environments that support students' spiritual and moral development. This research contributes to further understanding of the implementation of the philosophical conception of idealism in the context of basic education, with the hope of providing useful guidance for the development of more holistic and value-oriented learning strategies..

In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 679–689). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Storage insects provide a substantial risk to food spoiling, potentially resulting in a considerable reduction of up to 82.5% in food preservation. Ventilation is essential to avert harm caused by storage insect infestations. This study aimed to identify species and assess the population of storage pest insects in relation to the kind of ventilation in the Alang-Alang Lebar and Sukarame market's storage facilities. This study employed a direct collecting strategy for insects spotted on each food product commodity through handpicking, followed by the identification of each obtained sample. The identified bug species vary due to the diversity of dietary products. Species such Sitophilus oryzae and Tribolium castenum were predominant, alongside several others such as Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Carpophilus dimidiatus, Callosobruchus chinensis, Rhyzopertha dominica, and Oryzaephilus surinamensis. In the rice commodities market in Alang Alang Lebar District, the storage pest species S. oryzae was identified. S. oryzae is an insect pest that inflicts damage on stored rice. Sitophilus oryzae was found as the insect pest responsible for the majority of damage to stored rice. The peanut commodities in the Kebun Bunga Market and KM 5 Market comprised the species C. dimidiatus. C. dimidiatus was a significant pest that infests dry grains and fruits after harvest. The yield loss resulting from the assault of C. dimidiatus was quite substantial. Fermented peanut products were found as the primary target of C. dimidiatus. Seven species were identified in the storage with filtered ventilation. The pest insects infestation was deemed low due to the relatively small population, indicating the efficacy of both natural and filtered ventilation systems.

(Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang 21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 143–155). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Storage pests caused considerable harm in storage facilities due to their quick reproductive capacity, ease of dissemination, and facilitation of mold proliferation. This research aimed to identify insect species present in storage commodities through the observation and morphological identification of warehouse pest species. The research was performed via a microscope and identification manuals, with specimens gathered from the distribution of warehouse insects in the markets of Palembang City. Data acquired using sample techniques and specification determination. Observations conducted in various marketplaces within the Palembang region revealed that the warehouse pest population table indicated distinct population variability for each species across the markets. The species comprise Sitophilus oryzae, Tribolium castaneum, Oryzaephilus surinamensis, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Carpophilus dimidiatus, and Rhyzopertha dominica. Each species possesses distinct traits, whether in the head, thorax, or abdomen. The species Tribolium castaneum was only located in the Kebun Semai market, whereas the population of Oryzaephilus surinamensis was predominantly discovered in the Perumnas market. The species Rhyzopertha dominica and Cryptolestes ferrigineus were predominantly found at the Sekip Ujung Market and Kebun Semai Market. In the Perumnas market, there are 22 specimens of S. oryzae and 18 specimens of O. surinamensis. In the Sekip Ujung market, there are 18 specimens of R. dominica and 19 specimens of S. oryzae. In the Kebun Semai market, there are 17 specimens of R. dominica, 13 specimens of T. castaneum, and 11 specimens of C. ferrugineus, respectively. The state of the warehouse's physical condition. The implementation of ceramic floors, net-covered open ventilation, roll-up doors, pallets, and a zinc roof helps mitigate insect populations in the storage warehouse, hence minimizing damage to commodities.

Population and storage pest spesies from four local markets with various roofs and floors in sub-district of Ilir Timur I, Palembang South Sumatra. In: Ningrahayu et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang  21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 823–835).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Food products are agricultural goods imported from overseas and held for extended durations in local warehouses, resulting in pest infestations that cause a yield weight loss of 10.73%. This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of pest insects in warehouses across several markets in Palembang City. The methodology employed in this observation involved sampling, direct field surveys, and identification utilizing the texts "Insects of Stored Grain" and "Insects of Stored Products" by David Rees. The survey results indicated that seven species of barnyard insects were identified in several markets within the Ilir Timur I Sub-district of Palembang. Pest insects from the warehouse, acquired via purposive sampling, were classified as storage pests that infest food products, including: Tribolium castaneum, Sitophilus oryzae, Oryzaephilus surinamensis, Carpophilus dimidiatus, Rhyzopertha dominica, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, and Callosobruchus chinensis. Disorganized storage facilities with concrete roofs and cement flooring exhibited elevated populations of insect pests. Storage utilizing a high-positioned fiber ceiling, and a ceramic floor can diminish the incidence of insect infestations. S. oryzae, the predominant storage pest insect, exhibits the maximum population density in rice commodities. R. dominica was found with the lowest population density. Future research need data regarding the storage conditions.
