Abstract

South Kalimantan is a province with large dryland area.  This potency can be used for maize cultivation that will contribute to national maize production and play an important role as import substitution.  One of the major problems in maize cultivation is its low productivity that might be caused by its low efficiency of input use.  The objectives of this research are (1) to estimate factors influencing maize production and to analyze dryland farming efficiency, both in technical and allocative efficiency of dryland farming, and (2) to analyze dryland maize farming competitiveness in Kabupaten Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, and the efficiency effect to its competitiveness.  The methods used are the stochastic frontier production function and the dual frontier cost function for the first objective, and criterion of private cost ratio and domestic resources cost ratio for the second objective.  The results showed that land, seed, organic fertilizer, P-fertilizer, pesticide, labor and land treatment significantly influence production.  Generally, the farmers at research area have been technically efficient but allocatively inefficient. In order to increase economic efficiency, reduction in N-fertilizer is suggested.  The maize commodity in Kabupaten Tanah Laut is profitable and has competitive and comparative advantages.  The increasing of allocative efficiency will increase the competitiveness.   Key words: dryland maize farming, efficiency, competitiveness

Abstract

Integrated crop-livestock systems program with special reference to rice field and beef cattle is a potential alternative to support the development of agriculture sector in Indonesia.  The implementation on this integrated program was to enhance rice production and productivity through a system involving beef cattle with its goal on increasing farmers’ income.  The impact of integrated crop- livestock systems program to household economy farmers was studied in order to identify factors influencing behavior of farmer’s decision-making along with its interrelation between factors.  Impact of changes due to the external policy options was also assessed and farmer’s characteristics were described descriptively.  Five districts in the province of DIY, Central Java and East Java with 274 farmers were purposively used in the study. Simultaneous equations model with two SLS method was used to estimate the parameter, followed by the non-linear simulation approach.  The results show that most of the explanatory variables significantly affected to its endogenous variables.  Rice production is responsive to harvested land area which influenced by its volume of input rice derived demand.  The volume of its input derived demand also influences cattle and compost production.  Family labor utilization for rice and cattle production and their time allocation on non-farm and off farm jobs are related to each other. Input price of rice and live cattle are affected to their derived demand function.  Rice consumption is responsive to its price which the lower the price, the higher its consumption.  Credit on crops farm that has to be paid by farmers is also responsive and positively related to its commercial credit rate.  Effect of a 10 percent increase on output and input price of production rice, cattle and compost will increase their production; hence will also increase farmers’ income and the expenditures. This will apply to farmers that involved in a program of integrated crop-livestock systems.  On the other hand, alternative policy of combination between a 10 percent increase of output price along with 5 percent increase on its input price yield in the increasing production for farmers that are not involved in the crop-livestock systems program, hence will also increase the income.   Key words: household economics, simulation analysis, crop-livestock systems

Abstract

AbstractThis article investigates the impact of sea and air transportation cost, as well as infrastructure quality, to Indonesia’s import. Employing a panel regression model to seek for the answer, the paper find that cost reduction for sea transportation has greater impact on the Indonesia’s import volume compared to the air transportation. This paper also finds that Indonesia’s infrastructure quality has a significant positive impact on Indonesia’s import. The quality of ports, roads, and Linear Connectivity International Shipping (LSCI) are significant factors affecting import volume by sea transportation mode. Meanwhile, import volume by air transportation is significantly affected by the quality of the roads and airports.Keyword: Transportation costs, sea and air transportation infastructure qualities, volume of importJEL classification numbers: D24, H54, F13AbstrakPaper ini menyelidiki pengaruh biaya transportasi laut dan udara dan kualitas infrastruktur erhadap impor Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan model regresi data panel, paper ini menemukan bahwa koefisien biaya transportasi untuk impor menggunakan transportasi laut lebih besar dibandingkan melalui udara. Abstract

Banking industry is one of the industries which show the presence of tight competition. The competition itself can be seen from the number of banks which operates in Indonesia in 2014, that is 119 banks. The aim of doing this research is to analyze the different financial performances between Significant effect on the level of 5% and Private banks, and also to analyze the variable influence of bank finance performances to the stock price. The analyzing method which will be used on this research is radar and regression analyzing graphic illustration techniques. The result of this research shows that financial performances of SEOs Banks is better than Private Banks according to the profitability, productivity, and growth potential aspect, while on the aspect of liquidity, private banks has a better performance than SOEs banks. In terms of solvability, both banks have the same financial performances. According to the regression analysis, it is known that the bank financial performance on CAS and NIM variable has a positive and significant influence to the stock prices, while on LDR, CRR, CAR, DRR, and ROA variables they have a negative and significant influence to the stock prices. This shows that the investors have made those variables as a benchmark in their investing policies and they tend to pursue the stocks from SOEs banks rather than private banks, because generally SOEs banks have a better financial performance than private banks. Keywords: regression analysis, bank, stock prices, financial performances, radar method

Abstract

PT. Transportasi Jakarta runs the Transjakarta services based on the standards that had been regulated as one of the variables for the financial support which is given from the Regional Government. As stated in the Governor Regulation Number 62 of 2016 and Governor Regulation Number 33 of 2017, the Regional Government needs to evaluate the performances of the company to fulfill the service standards considering the implementations of fines that will be applied if the standards did not achieve, thus the financial support will be ineffective and inefficient. The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of PT. Transportasi Jakarta in attaining its Minimum Services Standards, and to develop the strategies to improve its service performance. The study uses Gap Analysis with secondary data from the Evaluation Report of Transjakarta Services in the Fourth quarter of 2018, and Analytical Hierarchy Process with primary data from the questionnaire given to respondents from all the related stakeholders. The result of this study shows that the performance of PT. Transportasi Jakarta has not yet reached the Minimum Service Standards. To improve the performance, the basic safety service needs to be prioritized by implementing a human resource development program. This could include open recruitment, capacity building, key performance indicators, and remuneration system. The renewal, mobilization of Transjakarta fleets, and integrated control system become the next strategy to improve punctuality since this type of service had the biggest fines applied and as the core service of Transjakarta services in providing mass transportations. Abstract

This study uses two models of stochastic frontier production function Cobb Douglas separate to estimate differences in environmental efficiency of conventional input variables and input variables detrimental. The results that farms with milkfish monoculture and polyculture cultivation pattern majority (approximately 82 percent) have reached a technically efficient, with an average efficiency rate of 0826.  Effect of pollutants on the efficiency of production of milkfish ponds visible from reduced levels of technical efficiency of the 0826 in model 1 becomes 0.633 in model 2 , so that the influence of pollutants by 0193. The decrease in efficiency is derived from the nitrogen pollutants are negative and significant. Policy implications necessary to supervise the use of the excessive feed and urea.

Abstract

An effort to increase rice production through agricultural extension in Central Lampung regency is difficult. This is because of the limited land that can be used as new planning areas and high competition for land use as non-agricultural activities. Therefore, the increase in rice production through production efficiency becomes the most important alternative. The objectives of this study are to analyze the level of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and economic efficiency of rice farming in Central Lampung district and identified the factors that influence it. The results of the analysis using stochastic frontier production function shows that rice farming in the study area has been efficient. Average efficiency level of technical efficiency is 0,94, allocative efficiency is 0,93, and economic efficiency is 0,88. The land area is the most responsive variable in an effort to increase rice production. Variables expected to affect the degree of technical efficiency of rice farming is the number of family members of farmers, rice farming experience, acces farmers to agricultural financing, and number of agricultural extension.

Abstract

Sharecropping system is wellknown as a disincentive agricultural system (Marshall 1920). It has been a culture that is very difficult to be deleted in rural area. Almost 70,5% of salt production business in Pamekasan regency applied this system, although it does not give more adventages to the sharecroppers. This study aimed to analyze the sharecropping system in salt production by estimating the profit taken by landlords and sharecroppers. Beside that, this study aimed to identify the factors affecting sharecropper’s decission by using binery logistic regression. The results showed that the landlords and the sharecroppers have a significant difference in the mean of their profit. This result is significant for α=5%. Sharecropper’s decission is affected significantly by the last education of sharecropper, number of sharecropper’s family, and cost of fund. This study recommended the government, landlords, sharecroppers, middleman, and the stakeholder to cooparate and make a forum that can give a better welfare to the sharecroppers.
