Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the increasing concern over aggressive behaviors among university students, highlighting the importance of understanding factors associated with nonviolent tendencies. This study aimed to examine gender differences in nonviolence disposition among university students. A comparative quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The participants consisted of 430 undergraduate students from IKIP Siliwangi, Indonesia, including 83 male students and 347 female students, aged 17–21 years. Data were collected through an online survey using an adapted version of the Teenage Nonviolence Test (TNT). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test. The results indicated that the overall nonviolence disposition of students was at a moderate level across all dimensions, based on the scale used in this study. Descriptive findings showed that female students consistently obtained higher mean scores than male students in nearly all dimensions. Inferential analysis revealed a statistically significant gender difference in Physical Nonviolence, with female students demonstrating higher levels than male students. This finding indicates that gender is associated with differences in students’ tendencies to reject physical aggression and refrain from using physical force in conflict situations.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine empathy profiles and empathy dysfunction among Muslim adolescents involved in brawl and klithih behavior in Yogyakarta City high schools and to identify factors underlying their involvement. The research used a descriptive design combining quantitative and qualitative data. Participants were seven Muslim students from private high schools selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an empathy scale and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using measures of central tendency and dispersion, whereas qualitative data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that involvement in brawls and klithih is closely associated with empathy dysfunction, which is exacerbated by low emotional regulation and unsupportive family backgrounds. These results inform guidance and counseling services and can guide strategies to develop adaptive empathy among students at risk of violent behavior. The study enriches empirical understanding of adolescent empathy and school violence. This study has limitations in geographical scope, being restricted to Yogyakarta City schools, so the findings may not generalize to adolescents in regions with different sociocultural contexts. The study also focused mainly on individual factors, while external influences such as social environments, educational systems, and institutional roles were not systematically explored. Future research should broaden the participant context across diverse regions and deepen the analysis of structural dimensions that contribute to empathy dysfunction and youth violence. Future studies should also use participatory approaches involving students, teachers, and school communities to build a more holistic and applicable understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of inner peace on the dynamics of conflict experienced by university students, including both intrapersonal and interpersonal conflicts. The research employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental correlational design. A total of 82 students participated, selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 35 students residing in Islamic boarding schools and 47 non-resident students. The Inner Peace Scale, covering the aspects of acceptance of loss, inner balance and calmness, and transcending hedonism and materialism, was tested on 438 students and produced 19 valid items based on Pearson correlation validity and a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability score of 0.764. The Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS), tested on 35 students, resulted in 15 valid items with a reliability of 0.914. The Interpersonal Conflict Scale, adapted from the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode, yielded 29 valid items with a reliability of 0.932. Normality testing using the Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal data distribution. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that inner balance and calmness had a significant positive correlation with intrapersonal conflict (r = 0.437; p = 0.009), while acceptance of loss had a significant negative correlation with interpersonal conflict (r = -0.433; p = 0.009). The regression analysis showed that the model significantly explained intrapersonal conflict (R² = 0.361, p < 0.001), with two dimensions of inner peace having significant effects: inner balance and calmness (β = 0.665, p < 0.001) and transcending hedonism and materialism (β = -0.489, p = 0.002). For interpersonal conflict, only the acceptance of loss dimension showed a significant negative effect (β = -0.364, p = 0.033). These findings suggest an opportunity to reinforce empathic and transformative communication approaches, emphasizing both conflict resolution and the personal transformation of those involved in the conflict.

Abstract

This study explores the flourishing experiences of student-athletes who navigate the dual challenges of academic and athletic commitments in Indonesian higher education. Within a context where student-athletes often face conflicts between training demands and educational expectations, the research aims to understand how they construct well-being and balance through the lens of positive psychology. Using a qualitative approach with Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA), eight participants from diverse sport disciplines were interviewed in depth. The PERMA (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) served as a sensitizing concept to guide analysis while remaining open to emergent themes. Findings reveal that flourishing develops through the adaptive integration of positive emotions, deep engagement, supportive social relationships, purposeful dual-role identity, and balanced achievements. Participants experienced a process of self-regulation, resilience, and meaning-making as they coped with physical fatigue, academic stress, and time management challenges. These processes reflected both hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions of well-being. The study underscores that flourishing is not a static state but a reflective and ecological process shaped by social support, institutional context, and personal strengths. The findings highlight the need for strength-based counseling programs and flexible institutional policies to sustain student-athletes’ holistic well-being and long-term academic–athletic harmony.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common issue experienced by university students and is closely associated with mental health conditions and a decline in academic performance. Emotion regulation plays a crucial role in stress management and has been proven to be an adaptive ability that enhances well-being. Interventions involving arts and music have increasingly been explored as effective approaches to improving emotion regulation skills among university students. This paper aims to systematically review existing studies related to Arts and music-based interventions in enhancing emotion regulation and reducing academic stress among university students, as well as to identify the intervention methods implemented. The method used in this paper is a systematic review of experimental studies, meta-analyses, and qualitative research focusing on arts and music interventions among university students. The analysis of results is based on measurements of academic stress, emotion regulation, and psychological well-being. The main findings indicate that Arts and music-based interventions consistently reduce academic stress levels and help improve students’ emotion regulation skills. In conclusion, Arts and music-based interventions are effective in enhancing emotion regulation and reducing academic stress among university students. Such approaches can be integrated into mental health support programs, including counseling and group guidance services, for students at the university level.

Abstract

The study examines teachers' professional identity by gender and teaching age using an explanatory survey with 196 participants from South Korea and Indonesia. Using a 25-item Likert scale, four dimensions were measured: job satisfaction, work commitment, motivation, and self-efficacy. Multivariate analyses showed no significant overall difference in professional identity between teachers from the two countries. However, South Korean teachers reported lower job satisfaction but higher self-efficacy compared to Indonesian peers. Gender did not influence professional identity overall, though male teachers in both countries tended to have higher job satisfaction than females. No interaction was found between country and gender. Teaching age did not generally affect professional identity, but an interaction effect with country was observed for self-efficacy: South Korean teachers showed a convex pattern across three teaching age categories, whereas Indonesian teachers showed a concave pattern, consistently lower than South Korean counterparts. These findings highlight cross-national differences in components of professional identity and suggest implications for theory and practice in teacher professional development, emphasizing the need to consider cultural and experiential factors in identity formation. This contributes to understanding how personal and contextual variables shape teachers' professional self-concept in varying educational settings. Abstract

Family resilience programs are widely implemented as community based interventions. However, their effectiveness in structurally vulnerable contexts, particularly among single parent households, remains insufficiently theorized and empirically validated. This study addresses this gap by examining the alignment between program design, implementation processes, and beneficiaries’ lived experiences in the Motekar (Motivator Ketahanan Keluarga) Program in RW 17 Kriyan Barat, Cirebon City. A qualitative case study design was employed using purposive sampling, involving 25 single parents, 25 adolescents, and 3 policy stakeholders. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using iterative coding procedures (open, axial, and selective coding) with constant comparative analysis, guided by the Knowledge–Attitude–Practice (KAP) framework. The findings reveal three critical patterns: (1) structural misalignment between standardized program design and context-specific family needs; (2) discontinuity in mentoring processes that weakens program sustainability; and (3) ambiguity in facilitators’ operational roles. In addition, a divergence between policy-based evaluation indicators and beneficiaries’ lived experiences indicates limitations in standardized assessment approaches. This study contributes by proposing a context-sensitive and participatory evaluation perspective to strengthen the effectiveness of family resilience programs in vulnerable family settings.
