Abstract

Secondary metabolites content in Sida rhombifolia L. (SR) are believed to inhibit the xanthine oxidase (XO) enzyme, which is responsible for converting hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid. This study aimed to compare flavonoid levels, XO inhibitory activity, and the reduction of uric acid levels of sidaguri herb, stem, leaves, and root extract both in vitro and in vivo. The research results showed that the highest total flavonoid content in SR was found in the leaves, at 21.29±0.08 mg/QE/g extract. The IC50 values were as follows: roots (EESRR 1096.07±1.07 ppm), stems (EESRS 561.62±7.01 ppm), leaves (EESRL 101.84±0.63 ppm), and herbs (EESRH 104.70±3.50 ppm). EESR can inhibit the XO enzyme and has potential as an anti-hyperuricemia agent. The best total flavonoid content and IC50 values were observed in EESRL, which are 21.29±0.08 mg/QE/g and 101.84±0.63 ppm, respectively. EESRL at a dose of 400 mg/kg BW has the equivalent ability to reduce blood uric acid levels in mice when compared to the positive control group. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that EESRL has significant potential as a natural XO inhibitor and can be considered a promising candidate for the development of anti-hyperuricemia treatments.

Abstract

In vitro, biotechnology has proven to be a reliable source for producing secondary metabolites. Isoflavones are secondary plant metabolites that have antioxidant and estrogenic properties in the body. Tissue culture technology, which allows the production of plantlets or calluses in small containers, can address challenges in plant metabolite production. To enhance the efficiency of callus production, variations in sources and amount of planting material should be tested in a single planting container. The Bengkoang plant / Jicama (Pachyrhizus erosus) naturally produces isoflavones. This study investigates the impact of variations in sources and amount of planting material on the production of isoflavones in Bengkoang callus using in vitro tissue culture techniques. The research was conducted at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, employing a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial method. Factor I involved the explant source: C1: young leaves; C2: Callus. Factor II involved the number of explants per container: T1: 1; T2: 2; T3: 3. The results show an interaction between source variations and the amount of planting material in anthocyanin production, successfully extracted from the Callus. Planting 3 explants in a container with subculture material from Callus produced the highest 0.16% isoflavones compared to other treatments

Abstract

Nut grass is defined as a weed that can reduce agricultural yields because it contains allelopathic compounds which have a negative impact on the sprouts and initial growth rate of spinach weed. The written research aims to find out whether allelopathic extracts from sedge grass can influence the germination and initial growth of thorn spinach weed. The research was carried out using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments, each repeated six times. The treatment is defined as: A0 as a control with water, A1 with 50 grams of tekhi per liter of water, A2 with 100 grams of tekhi per liter of water, and A3 with 150 grams of tekhi per liter of water. The results of the study showed that in treatment A3 (150g tekhi/L water) on the last day, the allelopathic extract of tekhi caused abnormalities in 75.17% of spinach spinach seed sprouts. In polybags, A3 treatment (150g tekhi/L water) on the last day reduced the growth rate of the number of seedlings from 25 plants to only 1 plant (96%), with a seedling height of 1 cm and a number of leaves of 3.67 pieces. The higher the treatment dose, the greater the effect in suppressing germination and initial growth of thorn spinach weed.

Abstract

This systematic literature review investigates the impact of gamification on young learners’ English language skill acquisition, addressing a research gap in understanding its specific contributions to engagement, motivation, and academic outcomes. By analyzing 26 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2024, sourced from Crossref, Scopus, and Semantic Scholar, this study categorizes findings into four themes: learner autonomy and motivation, vocabulary mastery, classroom participation and academic achievement, and intrinsic motivation. The results reveal that gamification significantly enhances learner autonomy and intrinsic engagement by integrating game-like elements such as leaderboards and progress trackers. Vocabulary acquisition benefits from contextualized and repetitive gamified activities, which improve retention and recall. Gamification also fosters classroom participation and academic success by creating inclusive and interactive learning environments, often aligned with cognitive frameworks like Bloom’s Taxonomy. However, the review identifies challenges such as inconsistent methodologies, technical limitations, and the novelty effect, which can influence the sustainability of gamification’s benefits. Despite these limitations, this study underscores gamification’s transformative potential in fostering dynamic, learner-centered environments that align with modern educational goals. The findings emphasize the need for thoughtfully designed gamified strategies that address diverse learner needs while promoting intrinsic motivation and sustained engagement. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies, the differential effects of competitive and collaborative gamification, and the integration of emerging technologies like AI and VR to further optimize gamified language education. These insights provide a foundation for innovative curriculum development and policy-making in education.

Abstract

The 'zero waste' movement in waste management has not been consistently implemented to build a sustainable cycle. However, residents of RW VII Dukuh Menanggal have adopted 'zero waste management' practices, including waste bank activities and composting of leaf waste in jumbo biopores. Community service initiatives aim to promote appropriate technology for leaf waste composting using the d'Wijaya method, increase the capacity for processing organic matter into compost, and enhance residents' skills in using compost for vegetable cultivation. These activities encompass socialization, counseling, and assistance in implementing the composting method. Planning, implementation, and evaluation involve the community directly, fostering a sense of ownership of the program. These community service activities have led to increased insight, knowledge, and skills among residents regarding composting of leaf waste and tree branch waste using the d'Wijaya method, as well as using compost for vegetable growth. The implementation of the 'zero waste management' concept in RW VII has resulted in a reduction of waste transported to temporary disposal sites (TDS) by more than 50%. This program could serve as an initial step towards establishing an independent composting facility within the RW area in Surabaya.
