Abstract

The social-ecological system of forests are changing with increasing modernity and has prompted the forest-dependent Dayak Punan community to adapt to the new conditions. In addition to changing livelihood structures, the institutional setting and social norms of subsistence strategies are also undergoing adaptation process. Therefore, the main question of this research is what institutional transformation are occuring of livelihoods in the Punan Dayak community as an adaptation to the modernity that entering the region where they live? A qualitative approach supported by quantitative data is used to obtain data and information in four Punan Dayak communities in Berau District, East Kalimantan. The level of dependence of Punan Dayak households on forests is declining, marked by increasing dominance of non-forest livelihood sources (i.e. wages and business). Institutions guiding the interaction between communities and the forest as a source of livelihoods, has also changed. In the four communities studied, the process of institutional transformation has produced four types of institutional organisations of subsistence vs. income dependent livelihoods, namely: subsistence-collective (livelihood activities to meet household food carried out in groups), subsistence-collective to commercial-contractual transition, commercial-collective (a livelihood activity aimed at earning money coordinated by the institution at the community level), and commercial-contractual (livelihood activities aimed at earning money/profits through formal working relationships individually or in groups).

Abstract

One of The main problem faced by rice farmers is the marketing of agricultural products. To overcome these problems, Village Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) form a marketing agency, namely 'Swadesa' with on-line (e-commerce) and off-line (shop) systems. This study aims to analyze the role of Swadesa marketing institutions in improving the income of rice farmers. This research used qualitative and quantitative approaches  (mix method). The research was conducted in Panggungharjo Village, Sewon District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta in March to October 2017. The results showed that this marketing agency could not run properly, so the purpose to increase farmer's income has not been achieved. Various obstacles that hinder the development of these marketing institutions, among others: lack of capital, lack of human resources (HR), low interest of farmers to sell crops, and digital iliteracy in rice farmers. Operational policies are needed in terms of increasing marketing agency access to capital sources; e-commerce utilization training; and more intensive socialization about the advantages of an on-line based marketing system.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIncreasing the number of people in Java affected the increasing demand for land for community activities. This became one of the drivers of the conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural land. On the other hand, the increasing need for food makes the government must establish a policy of protection of agricultural land so as not to be converted. Efforts to control food land conversion need to look at the factors that affect land conversion in each region. Thus, the established program is more effective because it is able to answer the problems faced by the community, especially the land owner. This study aims to identify factors affecting land conversion in Pandeglang Regency. The factors was analyzed by ordinal regression.. The results showed that factors affecting land conversion are land tenure, B/C ratio of paddy farming, and road conditions. The effort to suppress the conversion of agricultural land requires the commitment of the government and the community as policy actors. The establishment of rural area institutions based on local community business is one solution to prevent the conversion of agricultural land. Keywords: Land conversion, food-crop land protection, rice field, institutionABSTRAKPeningkatan jumlah penduduk di Pulau Jawa berpengaruh pada peningkatan kebutuhan lahan untuk aktivitas masyarakat. Abstract

The development of agriculture innovation tends to be oriented towards the increasing of the farm productivity rather than the equitable distribution living standard for farmer. Thus, the innovations have not only caused the social inequality in villages, but also the inequality of the relationship between rural and urban area. This study emphasizes two objectives, namely to conduct a critical evaluation of an organization that has created many agricultural innovations and to formulates new strategies from the organization to reduce social inequality. The data were gathered using some approaches: literatures study, structured quetionaires interviews, field survey, observation, and focus group discussion. The data collecting was started by reviewing literatures data and continued by interviews to 60 respondents using structured evaluation quetionnaires. The respondents were selected by accident sampling technic. Field survey conducted in the head office of organization, Yayasan Mutiara Keraton Solo (YMKS), Sukamantri Village (Tamansari Sub-District, Bogor Regency) and Sambirejo Village (Plupuh Sub-District, Sragen Regency) started from March to June 2018. In depth interviews were orginised in focus group discussion to 16 informans. The focus group discussion was conducted to construct the strategies of the organizational action in the future. The result of the study indicate that the performance of YMKS, established in 1994, is in a good criteria. However, the YMKS has a business vulnerability that is not continuous if the organization does not find a new strategy to maintan its existence. The organization has come characteristics such as innovative agricultural institution with involving society, social business organization for increasing farm productivity, and institution for citizen development. This study concludes that there are 5 (five) strategies and 4 (four) action programs that should be developed by the YMKS containing basic social values related to the importance of the increasing quantity and quality of human resources carried out together to create the farmer regeneration as youth agricultural innovators. In addition, the strategy and action also include the development of ideas so that actions are carried out on the basis of strengthening for the collaborative network in the “Working Together” shceme to establish Business-Community as a driving factor for community development acitivities. The thesis, however, highlight that this action is a new way of agricultural innovation encouring efforts to overcome social inequality.

Abstract

Presidental Degree No. 95 of 1995 in the era of President Soeharto was a fundamental basis in reclamation planning. The reason for the reclamation is to develop the Pantura area as an economic area and land expansion in Jakarta. However, this policy was opposed by many groups, one of which was the Ministry of the Environment by issuing the results of the 2003 Environmental Impact Study which stated that reclamation was not feasible to be continued. In addition, the reclamation plan had the potential to harm 17,000 fishermen who lived in the Jakarta bay reclamation development area; they felt the impact socially, economically and environmentally. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the reclamation rejection movement in the digital age. The paradigm of this research is constructivism, with qualitative and quantitative method approaches. Data retrieval on social media was carried out in Python 3 and Drone Emprit Academic to obtain SNA results and conversation trends and the distribution of issue locations on Twitter. This research was conducted in the Kaliadem and Kalibaru Fishermen Village, North Jakarta, involving 50 respondents and 5 informants. The result showed that social media has an effective role in encouraging the sensitivity of public attitudes in the movement. This is evidenced by the expansion of the message to reject reclamation in various regions, and it can encourage policy changes. Abstract

Based on a sociological perspective, problems in village financial management are not only in administrative problem but structural problem, which is an intervention from the government, so that access to village financial management is only owned by a handful of people. It has implications for the community participation space so the village development is not in accordance with the real hopes and needs of the village community. This study aims to identify local people who control village financial management and measure the influence index of these actors in carrying out their respective roles in Purwabakti Village and Sukadamai Village in Bogor Regency. The research was conducted using mixed methods The results showed that there were six dominant local actors in village financial management. Five of the six actors are village government officials who can be used as village secretary, village treasurer and chairman of the LPM, while one other actor is the head of the TPK Lapang for infrastructure development from the community. Based on the average value of the influence index of each actor, it can be concluded that the economic capital of the actor is the most important capital to be able to influence the community in the village with the rural characteristic, while the capital of moral actors is the most important capital to influence the community in teh village with the semi-urban characteristic. Actors in semi-urban villages also showed that their educational background and interaction with outsiders contribute to carrying out a structural role in the village.
