Abstract

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, primarily associated with not optimal feeding practices during the first 1,000 days of life. One important preventive effort is preparing mothers during pregnancy to make sure they have adequate knowledge and skills to prepare nutritious complementary feeding that provides sufficient protein to support child growth. This community service aim to provide education on high protein complementary feeding combined with cooking demonstrations as a strategy for stunting prevention in Gunungtugel Village, Wonosobo, Indonesia. The intervention was implemented through a pregnant women class consisting of education sessions using leaflet based materials that addressed the principles of complementary feeding, the importance of adequate protein intake, identification of locally available protein sources, age appropriate food texture, and hygienic food preparation practices, followed by a cooking demonstration of high protein complementary feeding. Data collection was carried out through pre and post interviews, participatory observation, and field documentation. The results indicated an improvement in mother’s understanding of high-protein complementary feeding, their ability to identify appropriate protein sources, and increased confidence in preparing complementary foods independently. Participants also demonstrated a better understanding of the role of protein in supporting child growth and preventing stunting. These findings suggest that high protein complementary feeding education combined with cooking demonstrations for pregnant women can be an effective community empowerment approach to improve maternal in implementing appropriate complementary feeding practices and supporting stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Introduction : A mother’s confidence in her ability to breasfeed, known as breastfeeding self efficacy (BSE) is a key predictor of exclusive breastfeeding duration. This study aimed to analyze the development of BSE research and provide insights for researchers and policymakers to improve future studies.Method : This bibliometric analysis was conducted using data from the Scopus database, one of the largest sources of peer reviewed literature. Articles were retrieved on August 7, 2024, using the keywords “Breastfeeding” AND “Self” AND “Efficacy.” A total of 1,006 documents were identified. After applying inclusion criteria (English language, article or review type, published between 2014 and 2023, open access, and final publication stage), 413 documents were selected for analysis. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer version 1.6.20 based on publication year, journal source, author, country of origin, and keywords. Results : Research on BSE has shown a consistent upward trend over the past decade, with the highest number of publications in 2023 (82 articles). The United States was the most productive country, followed by Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, and Indonesia. Most articles were published in journals focusing on lactation physiology, breastfeeding challenges, and evidence based interventions. The most cited studies emphasized the importance of partner support, coparenting, and breastfeeding safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Keyword analysis revealed several underexplored areas, particularly the role of midwives, formula use, and BSE in mothers of preterm infantsConclusion : This study highlights the growing global attention to breastfeeding self-efficacy as a key factor in improving maternal and child health, and points to the need for further research on underexplored areas, including the role of midwives and the impact of alternative feeding practices, to support more effective interventions and policies.

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a menstrual syndrome disorder that generally occurs in women of reproductive age before or during menstruation in a form of pain and discomfort around the pelvis, lower abdomen, and back. One of dysmenorrhea factors is the lack of daily physical activity (sedentary lifestyle). Sedentary lifestyle can cause ischemia that blocks the blood flow to the reproductive organs and the production of endorphins which help in reducing pain during menstruation. Objectives: To find out the correlation between sedentary lifestyle and the dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students, Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University.Method: This study used a quantitative method by applying a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were 107 midwifery students. The sampling used a purposive sampling technique with the result of 85 respondents. The univariate data analysis used frequency distribution, while the bivariate analysis used Spearman Rank test with ?-value < 0.05.Result: The result showed that the majority of midwifery students of Medical Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, with low sedentary lifestyle were 52 respondents (61.2%) and the majority of the students with low dysmenorrhea intensity were 53 respondents (63%). There was a significant and strong connection between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students (ρ-value=0.000) and (r=0.930).Conclusion: The positive value of the correlation showed a unidirectional relation between two variables where the higher sedentary lifestyle was, the higher dysmenorrhea intensity that would be experienced. There is a correlation between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrhea intensity.

Abstract

Background: Health workers are social beings with personal perceptions and opinions about standards of sexual normality. Sexual minorities are vulnerable in accessing health services. Minority groups in Singapore are considered criminals and are not generally accepted by society and health workers such as doctors. Whereas in Taiwan, although the government has legalized same-sex marriage, minority groups still experience rejection by the community and health workers such as nurses. This is due to stigma, homophobia, and heterosexism. Objectives: Reviewing literature that discusses health workers perceptions of sexual minorities in providing health services. Methods: This scoping review used the H. Arksey & L. O'Malley framework with a journal article selection process using PRISMA. The search for journal articles used the Proquest, Pubmed, Sage Pub, Wiley, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases, 21.019 articles were obtained from all databases and 3 journals were selected for analysisResults: Based on 3 selected articles with a cross-sectional study design. The results of the study revealed themes that were grouped based on the factors supporting positive attitudes and causing negative attitudes of health workers in Taiwan and Singapore towards homosexuality. Conclusion: Health workers have two different attitudes towards sexual minority groups; health workers who have a positive attitude supported by adherence to the code of ethics, level of social tolerance, and religiosity status of health workers. And health workers who have a negative attitude caused by education level and age, religious status, and socio-demographic factors.
