Abstract

Information retrieval constitutes a fundamental aspect in supporting academic activities at higher education institutions. In the digital era, institutional repositories play a pivotal role in storing and disseminating students' scholarly works in an open-access format. This study aims to analyze the extent to which Universitas Andalas’ repository, particularly the eskripsi application, facilitates students in searching and retrieving academic literature. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach with 98 student respondents, this research explores students’ perceptions regarding system usability, perceived usefulness, and encountered technical challenges. The findings reveal that the e-skripsi application significantly enhances the speed of information retrieval, supports the effective preparation of academic papers, and strengthens students' digital literacy skills. Nevertheless, certain obstacles were identified, such as decreased system performance during high traffic periods and the absence of advanced search features. Based on these insights, the study recommends strengthening technical infrastructure, developing a more interactive user interface, and integrating digital literacy programs to improve the repository’s effectiveness and sustainability within the university ecosystem

Abstract

The gap in information accessibility has faded the community's tradition of disseminating knowledge, especially in spreading Islamic teachings. The West Sumatra Provincial Government has revitalized the movement “kembali ka surau” to preserve local traditions in spreading Islamic teachings, including in Agam Regency. Currently, Islamic teachings are still widely conveyed orally in several mosques. Information accessibility is needed to support more effective and sustainable religious learning. In Minangkabau society, information dissemination is fundamental to religious life, with the mosque as its center. This article explored how local wisdom was disseminated through the routine wirid tradition in two main mosques located in Bukittinggi and Ampek Angkek districts of Agam Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with religious leaders, and literature reviews from January to March 2024. Findings indicated that wirid effectively disseminated religious values and local wisdom through effective communication channels, consistent scheduling, and an interactive social system. Religious leaders acted as opinion leaders and were reinforced through joint lectures, discussions, and social interactions. Social media enhanced the spread of routine wirid activities. Scheduled routines, reading materials, and technological integration further enriched its impact. This integrated model reveals the powerful potential of routine religious activities as a transformative platform for community education, contextual da'wah, and preservation of local Islamic heritage. In conclusion, the wirid routine in Agam Regency is a medium of da’wah and plays a key role in sustaining, spreading, and preservationg local Islamic wisdom in the local community context.

Abstract

In the midst of the rapid development of information technology, libraries are required to transform in providing information services. However, conventional services based on printed collections still have an important role, especially in supporting specific and in-depth reference needs. This study aims to examine the existence and relevance of conventional reference services that are still organized at the Library of Universitas Perintis Indonesia. The method used was qualitative research with a field study approach through direct observation and interviews with reference librarians. The results showed that printed collections such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and directories are still actively used, especially by final year students and lecturers who need valid references in scientific writing. The main challenges faced are the limited budget for collection renewal and the lack of user understanding of the benefits of printed collections. However, these services have the opportunity to continue to be relevant if integrated with digital approaches and the promotion of information literacy. This research confirms that conventional services do not lose relevance, but need to be adapted to the dynamics of user needs in the digital era.

Abstract

Purpose. Digital transformation accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the way students explore and evaluate information, especially in the early stages of digital literacy. This study aims to analyse the information literacy practices of students of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the context of Digital Humanities, focusing on the use of AI-based tools in the search, discovery and evaluation of information sources. Methodology. This research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. The sample consisted of 245 FAH and FST students of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, who were purposively selected. Data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analysed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive and Chi-Square tests. The validity and reliability of the instruments were tested, with Cronbach's Alpha >0.80. Results and discussion. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents routinely use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, Gemini, and Perplexity for initiating information searches. AI is considered highly useful for initial reference discovery, expanding exploration scopes, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant sources. However, doubts remain among students regarding AI's effectiveness in assessing source credibility. These results underscore the need to integrate critical thinking approaches into AI-based digital literacy education in Islamic higher education institutions. Conclusions. This study contributes to the Digital Humanities discourse by offering an initial mapping of students' interaction patterns with AI in the digital information literacy landscape.

Abstract

University libraries exist to support the teaching , learning and research needs of their institution. This is done by providing the latest information sources for the academic community as university library users. This mission can be achieved well through effective and periodic marketing of information┬á and library services, one of which is through reference services. This article discusses the use of reference and information services in supporting distance learning as one of the impacts of the spread of the Covid 19 outbreak (current situation and the way forward). The research method is quantitative descriptive┬á research, with 78 respondents and using literature related to the transformation of reference services in the digital era. Data collection is processed based on the results of observations, interviews of the IAIN Batusangkar library reference service and other college libraries in providing online reference services. The analysis explains the presence of a reference service for students, especially Library Science students at IAIN Batusangkar. Analyzing how the media can help reference librarians in providing optimal services to the academic community remotely. Describe the strategies that reference librarians can use in creating real time reference transactions in a technology environment while maintaining the main function of reference services. Introducing the idea of a ÔÇÿnew faceÔÇÖ model of reference and information services for the IAIN Batusangkar library in the period of distance learning, especially the rapid change in learning systems as a result of the corona virus outbreak ( covid 19). Libraries need to improve the reference service system they provide, so that the academic community can meet their information needs through library services remotely, anytime and anywhere. At the end of this paper, it is intended that librarians, especially reference librarians. Continue to serve readers with different needs, librarians must walk across the library, access computer screens from all campus intranet systems, answer emails and explore other interactive tools to reach customers in an effective, practical and effective way.
