Abstract

This research is driven by observations from the eighth-grade class at Junior High School 5 Kertosono, which revealed that lesson planning, reading comprehension, and problem-solving strategies have not been effectively utilized. Therefore, this research aims to enhance students' awareness and metacognitive skills through the application of the ASICC learning model. The focus of this study is on 18 eighth-grade students at Junior High School 5 Kertosono. This research is classroom action research based on a lesson study conducted over two cycles. The data analysis used is the scores of metacognitive awareness and skills in the first cycle compared to the second cycle, tested using N-Gain analysis. The research results reveal that metacognitive awareness in the first cycle showed that 11.1% of students were in the "medium" category, which increased to 22.2% in the second cycle. Meanwhile, metacognitive skills experienced a significant increase in the "high" category, starting from 16.7% in the first cycle and rising to 33.3% in the second cycle. The ASICC learning model can be applied to enhance students' metacognition. Another finding reveals that students with good metacognitive awareness do not always possess good metacognitive skills

Today’s, higher population cause the human necessary not only at basic food but also at medical compounds has increased too (quality and quantity). The bad impact of modern therapy cause the society should look for the alternative therapy specifically using medical compounds from tropical plants as well as can be found in their environment. Providing medical compounds by tropical plant by conventional methods were inefficient, such us the limitation of reproduction ability plant (by vegetative or generative), were dependent to host plant (medical plant parasite), most of medical plants belonging to rare plant, and the fluctuation of concentration medical compounds will be crucial problem to fulfill their necessary. Based on previous study showed that the improvement of plant tissue culture technique included of the invention and growth plant substances application were able to solve the providing callus as source of medical compounds. However, the higher rate of variation genetic callus caused the variation of medical compounds profile. Biology molecular technology such us flow cytometric and RAPD have great potential to monitor of callus profile, for examples DNA profile or stage of callus cells. Finally, the providing of medical compounds can be filled not only by quality and quantity.

Abstract

Research on student motivation within the Socio-Scientific Issues-based ASICC model for ecosystem topics remains limited, despite its critical role in achieving deep learning principles. This study aims to uncover students' motivation to learn biology. A standard Likert-scale-based instrument was used to measure student motivation. Data were obtained from this classroom action research based on lesson study. The average student motivation scores in each cycle were compared. Then, the student motivation data was also analyzed by comparing the dimensions of motivation according to Glynn's motivation theory. The results showed a significant and consistent increase in learning motivation from the pre-cycle to the second cycle, indicating better homogeneity of motivation. This increase was also reflected in the shift in the distribution of motivation categories, where students with high and very high motivation increased. An interesting finding from this study was that students were motivated to learn by the encouragement of grades motivation. The Socio-Scientific Issues approach to biology learning was realized by implementing ecosystem learning through the ASICC learning model. Environmental issues and cases can increase student learning motivation. However, an in-depth analysis conducted in this study revealed that students' grade motivation dimension was higher than other motivational dimensions. Presenting environmental issues or cases should be able to enhance intrinsic motivation. This finding suggests that grade motivation was the most easily stimulated dimension of motivation before developing motivation in other dimensions.

Therefore, this study was aimed to reveal how the ASICC learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills. The case study was conducted in a class that implementing the ASICC learning model. Data of critical thinking skills was collected using a critical thinking test instrument integrated with essay test questions for conceptual understanding. Learning activity scores at each stage of the ASICC model are assessed using a rubric that has been developed. Multiple regression analysis was used to obtain contribution scores for each stage of student learning activities. This study revealed that the interpretation stage has the highest influence or contribution compared to other stages, namely reaching 51.71% towards increasing students' critical thinking scores. In order to improve students' critical thinking scores through the ASICC model integrated with green/blue economy issues, teachers should allocate sufficient time to students at the interpretation stage.

Abstract

Microplastics have become pervasive contaminants in riverine and coastal environments, raising concern about their implications for ecosystems and communities that rely on these waters. This study investigates microplastic contamination and associated risks in the Kamoning River, Sampang District, Madura, Indonesia, where residential, agricultural and port activities may drive substantial inputs of plastic debris. Surface water samples were collected at six stations representing upstream, midstream, urban, port and estuarine reaches, and analysed for microplastic abundance and morphology using sieving, chemical digestion and microscopic identification. Microplastic particles were quantified as fragments, fibres and films, and total abundances were expressed as particles per litre. To characterize potential risks, a screening-level risk quotient (RQ) approach was applied by comparing estimated exposure concentrations with literature-based reference values for ecological and human health endpoints. The average of microplastic abundances were in the order of 10⁴ particles per litre and increased from upstream to estuarine stations, with fragments as the dominant form at all locations. Calculated RQ values for short-term exposure via water use and local fish consumption ranged from 0.23 to 0.51, indicating low to moderate concern under current conditions. These findings show that the Kamoning River functions as a critical conduit and accumulation zone for microplastics, while present risk levels remain below commonly used thresholds. The study contributes a locally grounded, reproducible framework for linking microplastic abundance data to risk indicators that can support targeted plastic waste management and inform future monitoring and research in Indonesian river systems.
