Abstract

This study addresses a persistent gap in science education—the limited integration of spiritual values and environmental stewardship into classroom practice. The research investigates how Project-Based Learning (PjBL) can promote students’ eco-literacy attitudes within the framework of Islamic science education. Employing a library research design and content analysis, the study examines books, journals, and related scholarly works focusing on PjBL, eco-literacy, and Islamic educational values. The findings reveal that PjBL enhances conceptual understanding and fosters active, contextual, and ethically informed scientific inquiry guided by Islamic principles. It also promotes eco-literacy through three interrelated dimensions: cognitive (knowledge of ecological systems), affective (concern for nature), and conative (environmental responsibility and action). The study concludes that integrating PjBL with Islamic values provides a coherent pedagogical framework that strengthens students’ scientific, moral, and ecological competencies. This approach is recommended for Islamic higher education institutions seeking to develop educators who are scientifically proficient, environmentally aware, and spiritually grounded

Abstract

Organic waste generated from daily activities in schools has the potential to cause environmental problems if not properly managed. Based on observations at SMAN 1 Kabila, organic waste such as dry leaves, grass, and food residues was not optimally utilized and was generally disposed of or burned. This community service activity aimed to improve students' knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into compost using Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4), while also fostering environmental awareness. The activity was conducted at SMAN 1 Kabila and involved students through educational and mentoring approaches, including lectures, demonstrations, hands-on composting practices, and evaluation. The materials used consisted of dry leaves, cow manure, EM4, glucose solution, and water. The results showed that students were able to understand the composting process and actively participate in each stage, including material preparation, mixing, fermentation, and packaging. In addition to producing compost fertilizer, the activity enhanced students’ awareness of the importance of organic waste management and environmental conservation within the school environment. Therefore, education and mentoring on compost production can serve as an effective environmental learning strategy to support sustainable organic waste management in schools.

Abstract

Background: This research was initiated in response to the noticeable lack of environmental awareness among students in coastal regions, despite the area's abundant natural resources, and the absence of innovative, contextually relevant science learning tools. The research aims to develop a digital edutourism-based e-module at Kilo 5 Beach in Luwuk, designed to enhance students' conceptual understanding and foster environmental appreciation. Methodology: The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach, specifically the 4D development model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), though only three stages were executed: a preliminary study, design and validation by subject matter and media experts, and effectiveness testing with educators and students. Effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and post-tests, with data analyzed through the N-Gain formula and t-tests. Findings: This e-module is validated as educational resource. Expert validation confirmed the e-module's validity, with average scores exceeding 9%, indicating no revisions were needed. Practicality assessments revealed positive feedback from both teachers and students, with scores in the excellent category (above 90%), demonstrating the e-module's high practicality. The e-module's effectiveness was further evidenced by an increase in students' understanding, reflected in an N-Gain value of 0.6316 (medium category) and a significant t-test result (0.00<0.05). Contributions: This research provides empirical support for the use of educational tourism–based e-modules as contextual digital learning tools to improve environmental awareness and conceptual understanding among coastal junior high school students. It advances the 4D development framework by embedding local ecotourism contexts into science learning materials and evaluating their validity, practicality, and learning impact. The findings offer a transferable instructional approach that links formal science education with local environmental resources to support place-based and sustainability-focused learning.

Abstract

Abstract

Numeracy literacy is a fundamental competence that enables students to use mathematical concepts, procedures, facts, and tools in various life contexts. This community service activity aimed to strengthen teachers' initial understanding of the Education Report and data-based planning to support numeracy improvement. The activity was conducted on 8 May 2024 in the computer laboratory of SMP Negeri 1 Kabila Bone and involved 20 teachers. It consisted of preparation, material presentation, demonstration of indicator interpretation, discussion, and process evaluation. Participants actively discussed how to read achievement information, identify priority problems, reflect on possible root causes, and formulate follow-up actions through the Identify, Reflect, and Improve stages. The activity produced initial conceptual strengthening, but it did not measure changes in teachers' competence or students' numeracy outcomes. Continued mentoring, action-plan development, and measurable evaluation are therefore required.
