Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the abilities needed by students to face the challenges of the 21st century. This study aims to describe the validity of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based questions developed to train students' critical thinking skills. This research used a developmental research model (ADDIE) model. The parameter measured was the product's validity level, consisting of HOTS-based questions, using a validation instrument involving two validators: a material expert and a learning device expert. The subjects in this study were 11th-grade high school students. The questions were developed in essay format and presented through the digital platform Quizizz as a learning evaluation medium. The validation results showed that the questions fell into the appropriate to very appropriate category, with a percentage range of 62.50% - 81.25% for the material aspect, and 81.25% - 100% for the learning device aspect. Thus, the developed HOTS-based questions are deemed appropriate for use in learning evaluation activities and have the potential to support the development of students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Problem Based Learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills on the human digestive system material of class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Moutong. The study used a pre-experimental design method with a one group pretest-posttest design approach involving 25 students of class XI IPA2. The research instruments included critical thinking tests (pretest and posttest), learning implementation sheets, student activity sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the learning implementation reached an average of 94% with the category (very good), student activity 94% (very good), and student response 91% (very positive). The average pretest score of 42.2 increased to 79.2 in the posttest with an N-Gain value of 0.59 (moderate category). Significant improvements occurred in the indicators of providing simple explanations and organizing strategies or actions, increasing from 34.4% and 32% to 92%, respectively. These results indicate that the implementation of the PBL model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in the human digestive system.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to create interactive learning media using Microsoft PowerPoint about the human circulatory system. This media is designed as an alternative learning resource that is interesting, easy to understand, and rich in visuals. The development process follows the ADDIE model, but this study only reaches the development stage without being tested directly in class. The media creation process is the main subject of this study, which employs a qualitative descriptive methodology. The PowerPoint created is equipped with navigation features with hyperlinks, visual images, explanatory videos, and interactive quizzes. These features aim to increase students' interest in learning, facilitate understanding of the material, and support independent learning, both online and offline. The results of this development stage indicate that this media has the potential to support science learning, especially the circulatory system material, because it combines visual and interactive elements that can increase student motivation and learning outcomes. The next stage is recommended to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of this media in the classroom. Keyword: Development, Media, PowerPoint

Abstract

Solving problems related to Newton’s laws of motion requires strong executive control over operational thinking processes. Empirical evidence, however, indicates that many students experience systemic fragility within their cognitive structures as a result of dysfunction in metacognitive regulation. This study aimed to identify and critically examine the extent of students’ cognitive fragility in solving Newtonian mechanics problems, with particular emphasis on the metacognitive functions of monitoring and evaluation. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive-exploratory design with a critical diagnostic orientation. Data were collected from students in the Science Education Program at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo through the Newtonian problem solving ability test  and retrospective task-based clinical interviews. The data were analyzed interactively through the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed severe metacognitive dysfunction across both regulatory phases. During the monitoring stage, cognitive fragility appeared in the form of loss of visual anchoring to free-body diagrams, anomalies in assigning vector-coordinate signs, and a strong tendency to engage in jumping steps, which emerged as the most dominant type of error. At the evaluation stage, students’ reasoning was largely characterized by evaluation neglect and a superficial focus on outcome verification, where attention was limited to obtaining a final numerical answer. As a result, students frequently accepted physically unreasonable and anomalous solutions without engaging in self-correction or critical reflection. Overall, the study concludes that the collapse of students’ algebraic and physical reasoning stems directly from the breakdown of the feedback relationship between real-time monitoring and retrospective evaluation processes
