Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of the "Talking Stick" cooperative learning model in the fourth-grade IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) class at SDN 29 Ganting Utara, Padang City. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) study employing both qualitative and quantitative approaches, conducted over two cycles—each comprising two meetings—following the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 27 fourth-grade students (14 boys and 13 girls). Data were collected using test and non-test methods, utilizing instruments such as test questions and observation sheets for the Lesson Plan (RPM), teacher activities, and student activities. The results indicate an improvement in the quality of the Lesson Plan (RPM) from 82.14% in Cycle I to 92.85% in Cycle II. Teacher activity scores rose from 80.55% to 91.66%, while student activity scores increased from 80.55% to 91.66%. Student learning outcomes also improved in Cycle II, with average scores of 85.18% for the attitude aspect, 84.25% for knowledge, and 84.24% for skills. These findings demonstrate that implementing the "Talking Stick" cooperative learning model can foster improvements in learning activities and student learning outcomes in IPAS lessons.

Abstract

Instruction in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) regarding local wisdom in elementary schools faces challenges due to limited use of interactive media that could help students grasp the material in an engaging and contextual manner. Initial observations indicated a need for media capable of enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. This study aimed to develop interactive multimedia based on Lectora Inspire—focusing on local wisdom—for third-grade students and to assess the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed product. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, comprising Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. Product trials were conducted at SD Negeri 11 Indarung, while the final product was implemented at SD Negeri 20 Indarung and SD Negeri 01 Bandar Buat. The results showed that the multimedia achieved an average validity score of 88.93%, placing it in the "highly valid" category. Practicality, based on teacher and student responses, ranged from 85.20% to 98%, falling into the "highly practical" category. N-Gain analysis yielded an average score of 0.73, which falls into the high category. Consequently, the Lectora Inspire-based interactive multimedia is deemed valid and practical, and it demonstrates a high level of improvement in learning outcomes, making it suitable for use in IPAS instruction on local wisdom.

Abstract

This classroom action research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning, especially on the topic of Cultural Diversity and Local Wisdom at SDN 22 Lubuk Begalung. The learning process was still dominated by lecture methods, causing students to be passive and less motivated. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model using the Index Card Match method. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The participants were 22 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation sheets, learning achievement tests, and documentation. The results indicated significant improvements in lesson planning, teacher and student activities, and learning outcomes. Lesson planning improved from 85.71% in Cycle I to 92.85% in Cycle II. Teacher activity increased from 85.71% to 96.42%, while student activity increased from 78.57% to 92.85%. Students’ attitude scores improved from 70.73 to 86.64, knowledge scores increased from 68.09 to 89.09 with 90.91% classical mastery, and skill scores improved from 74.23 to 88.25. The findings conclude that the Cooperative Learning model using the Index Card Match method effectively improves IPAS learning outcomes among fourth-grade elementary school students.
