Abstract

The present study investigates effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and metacognition strategies on higher-order thinking skill of students in Mathematics Lesson. The independent variables are PBL design instructional and the expository and discussion learning design. The moderator variable is metacognition strategies measured by the adaptation OLRc News 2004. Questionnaires and structured-essay tests are used as research instruments. The dependent variable is higher-order thinking skills of Secondary school students. The experiment uses 2 x 2 factorial design with pretest and posttest. The samples are splitted into two groups: the PBL group and the conventional group of 32 students of each group. The study reveals that there are (1) the influence of the PBL model on higher-order thinking skills, (2) the influence of metacognition strategies on higher-order thinking skills, (3) the influence of PBL model on higher-order thinking skills of a group of students with high metacognition strategies, (5) there is an interaction between the PBL models and metacognition strategies against students’ high-level thinking skills. Abstract

Purpose—This research is important to overcome the low interest of students in learning mathematics in elementary schools due to the conventional approach, which is less interesting. By developing comics based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) that promote local Jambi culture, this research aims to create more interesting, contextual, and relevant learning and increase the interest of fifth-grade students in mathematics.Methodology- This research and development (R&D) approach uses the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), which was employed to design the mathematics comics. Data were collected through pre-test and post-tests, observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. These comics were developed based on a needs analysis derived from teacher interviews and student feedback, focusing on integrating local cultural aspects, particularly the Gentala Arasy temple, to make the learning material more engaging and relevant. Conducted during the 2024/2025 academic year at SDN 151/IV Jambi City, this research involved 42 students from two selected classes.Findings- The findings indicate that the developed PBL-based comic media was feasible and effective in supporting mathematics learning. Including Jambi cultural illustrations proved valuable in increasing student engagement, motivation, and understanding of mathematical concepts. The comic's visual and narrative elements helped simplify abstract mathematical ideas, making them more accessible and comprehensible for elementary school students. Feedback from both experts and students affirmed the comics' validity, readability, and overall effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes. This study demonstrates that culturally contextualized comic media can significantly improve students' interest and achievement in mathematics.Significance- The developed comics offer an innovative solution for mathematics education and contribute to the advancement of local culture-based educational tools, providing valuable resources for teachers and students in Jambi and other regions. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, Mathematics comics, Ethnomathematics, Jambi Culture

Abstract

This study aims to describe how the application of the discovery learning model through differentiated learning to improve student learning outcomes in mathematics subjects of data building material in class IV Elementary School. This research is a class action research (PTK) consisting of two cycles, where the data taken in the form of observation data through teacher observation sheets in applying the discovery learning model through differentiated learning and observation sheets of student learning outcomes in the form of post tests. This research was conducted with 4 stages, namely, planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted at SDN 27/IX Sebapo from January to February 2024. The results of this study indicate an increase in student math learning outcomes as seen from the student learning outcomes test sheet in the pre-action student learning outcomes of 35%. Experienced an increase in cycle I meeting 1 to 39%, then experienced an increase again in cycle II meeting 2 to 58%, and increased again in cycle II meeting 1 which was 69%, then increased again in cycle II meeting 2 to 88% with category A (very good). Based on the findings of the research results, it can be concluded that student learning outcomes on flat building material in class IVb SDN 27/IX Sebapo can increase after applying the discovery learning model through differentiated learning.

Abstract

This research was conducted by looking at the educational situation, especially elementary schools because of the lack of teaching variation in the use of digital learning media. The lack of variety in learning media makes students less enthusiastic about participating in learning activities. For this reason, media is needed so that students can see, hear, and read, one of which is comics. The research aims to develop e-comic media containing ethnomathematics, Gental Arasy, and Jambi Province to increase mathematical literacy, foster a spirit of love for the country, and increase student motivation in learning. The development of digital comic research uses Research and Development as well as the 4D development model. The subjects in this research consisted of class V teachers at SDN 214/IV Jambi City and class V students at SDN 214/IV Jambi City. The effectiveness test of e-comic media was analysed using the t-test and N-Gain based on data obtained through motivation questionnaires and creative thinking ability tests given to 12 class V students of SD 214/V Jambi City. The type of data collection carried out is by conducting observations, interviews and questionnaires. The data was analysed using qualitative descriptive and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research results showed that the average expert validity test score was 88%, so it was included in the very valid criteria and product trials on students were 95% in the very good category. Thus, the results of the research concluded that the Gental Arasy Jambi-based comic EDC learning media can increase mathematical literacy in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the problems encountered in teaching the local content subject of Environmental Education (Pendidikan Lingkungan Hidup/PLH) in Class VA of SDN 059/IV Jambi. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method, with the research subjects consisting of the homeroom teacher and the VA class students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles & Huberman. The results revealed several key challenges in teaching environmental education, including limited instructional time (only one lesson hour per week), a lack of relevant learning resources, and insufficiently varied teaching approaches. Other obstacles included the continued implementation of the 2006 KTSP curriculum, which no longer meets students’ current needs. Nevertheless, the teacher strived to address these challenges by utilizing supplementary teaching materials such as educational videos, involving students in practical activities like planting medicinal herbs, and providing contextual explanations tailored to students' needs. The study concludes that despite the challenges, the teacher’s creativity and flexibility enabled the PLH learning process to continue effectively. Recommendations from this study include updating the curriculum, providing more relevant learning media, and increasing parental and community involvement to support environment-based learning.
