Abstract

The dearth of English textbooks used as teaching resources for junior high school students at Islamic Boarding Schools (IBS) in West Sumatera, Indonesia, is the driving force behind the current study. The goal of this research is to develop an IBS English textbook. Using Sukmadinata's theory, research and development were used in this study. The phases are divided into three phases: need analysis, design, and validation. Interviews and document analysis were used to gather data. Teachers require an English textbook for instruction, according to the results of the need analysis. The textbook is meticulously created during the design phase to satisfy the demands of both teachers and students. Topics including greeting, school activities, dorm activities, sports, scout extracurricular activities, minimarket, mosque activities, and before bed are covered in the textbook along with Islamic principles and local culture. On the other hand, the activities are cheerfully and easily designed. For instance, completing crossword puzzles, matching words, and responding to simple inquiries. Additionally, the textbook made use of vibrant pictures to grab students' interest and expand their understanding. The textbook was accepted as true. The English textbook could be utilized to teach English for IBS in West Sumatera in light of these findings.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of independence in student learning because the teaching materials used are less varied and insufficient in number for students. Besides that, there are also limitations of existing teaching materials in empowering students to learn. The research aims to develop e-modules based on Forward and Backward Chaining that are valid and practical to use. The research was carried out by developing E-modules which were then validated and practiced in learning. Research data was collected using validation sheets for expert assessment and student response questionnaires for module practicality assessment. The validation data obtained was processed using the Aiken's V formula and the practicality data was processed using the Degree of Achievement formula. The results of this study state that the developed E-module is very valid to use with a value of 0.91 and very practical to use in learning with a value of 87.8. Thus, this module can be used for PAI learning activities at the public junior high school level in Tanjung Baru District.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. These are rare representing approximately 0.1-3% of all GI. The management of GIST is carried out using a multidisciplinary approach. Standard treatment of localized GIST is complete surgical resection associated (or not) with adjuvant Imatinib therapy. We reported 4 cases of GISTs with different management. We performed the surgical excision in three female patients with a median age of 44.7 years and 1 male patient get neoadjuvant imatinib due to unresectable mass. In our series, clinical manifestations are variable among patients, abdominal discomfort is the most primary symptoms. All of our patients received one year of Imatinib 400 mg daily therapy after the surgery and follow up based on Algorithm Treatment For GISTs.

Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses my experience in shaping EFL learners’ project on textbook design in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) subject. This task was challenging since the learners’ project designing textbook was in the sixth semester students. This article first explores the concept of ESP, principles in developing materials and classroom project. Then, it goes to focus on the pedagogical procedure for designing ESP textbook. This procedure includes (1) prior to designing a textbook; (2) designing a draft of the textbook; (3) finalization of designing textbook; and (4) demonstrating peer teaching on one of the units of the textbook.  Finally, it elaborates students’ responses to these practices. The findings show that classroom project can enhance learners’ to good cooperation, improve learners’ knowledge and creativity, and promote learners individual and social values to improve their harmony in life. For future researchers, it is suggested exploring the effect of classroom project on students’ achievement, and to examine the correlation between classroom project on ESP subject and learners’ social values.

Abstract

The design of holding presidential elections is based on Article 6A paragraph (2) and Article 22 E paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution and Election Law Number 7 of 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the Election Law). Article 222 in the Election Law affects the form of people's sovereignty in choosing presidential candidates on condition that it must be proposed by a political party/combination of parties participating in the election that has 20% of the total DPR seats or 25% of the national valid votes in the previous DPR member election. Presidential Threshold is one way to strengthen the presidential system. On the other hand, the existence of the Presidential Threshold actually limits political parties from being able to easily nominate presidential candidates. This type of research is normative juridical research using the statutory approach and conceptual approach method. The results showed that the Presidential Threshold as an open legal policy whose authority was given to the framer of the Law. The Presidential Threshold is not entirely the main problem preventing the emergence of alternative diverse choices in the presidential election. But it is more about the willingness and ability of political parties to offer cadres and work programs in contesting presidential elections.

Abstract

The limitations of the teaching materials, the absence of sample questions, individual assignments, and evaluations of narrative text materials are the issues covered in this study. This research aims to describe the needs of teachers and students for an electronic module (e-module) based on the scientific approach, to develop a prototype for an e-module based on the scientific approach, and to describe the experts’ validation of the e-module. This study employed R&D using the 4D development model, which has four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Three validators—two lecturers and one teacher—were used to evaluate the e-module. This research findings show as follows. Firstly, teachers and students need narrative text e-module teaching materials employing a scientific approach, secondly, the e-module narrative text prototype adheres to the scientific approach. Finally, the validation test on e-module narrative text for English learning is categorized as valid. These findings recommend that using the scientific approach-based e-module narrative text material that was developed with the help of the KSOFT flipbook maker is imperatively implemented in teaching a narrative text in the tenth grade of Senior High School.
